Re: New setting for Traveller needed

A more realistic UWP procedure may be seen as a house rule, but eliminating grav technologies would in my view be a major change of the game's technology assumptions. I believe there is a more realistic UWP procedure in the SRD as an alternate, so not really a houserule, but more of an optional off...

Re: New setting for Traveller needed

I disagree to a limited extent. Simply using a form of realistic UWP procedure* and eliminating grav technologies will change much. These things are simple rules changes, but not game system changes. House rules, really. * mostly affecting atmo issues and population issues, which will affect a reaso...

Re: The Alcubierre Gun

A paper from the University of Sydney Physics Department discusses the possibility that Alcubierre Warp Drive has a serious and dangerous drawback that may make it into a serious weapon; it may actually destroy the destination location. "Alcubierre warp-drives (theoretically) allow rocket ships to t...

Re: Is The K'kree Navy A Threat - I Think Not! / Virus

A long while ago, I did some work with K'kree and tried to actually stay reasonably close to the canon/OTU info I had. It was on another forum. Maybe it might be helpful... http://www.sfrpg-discussion.net/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=45&t=1222 http://www.sfrpg-discussion.net/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=30&t=1249

The 'Warp' drive mentioned as an alternate drive in the Traveller SRD appears to be an Alcubierre drive.

Re: Loaded vs. Unloaded M-ratings

Agility? An aspect of things that MgT doesn't even seem to bother with ( based on the SRD ) ? and is used as nothing more than a dm in combat with MT with nothing similar ( based on the SRD ) in MgT? Actual G numbers in MT have nothing to do with mass of space/star ships. ---------------------------...

Re: Loaded vs. Unloaded M-ratings

WHY do you refuse to read the MT rules & understand that load affects performance for ships using the Thruster plates? Once you admit it you have to know that the items in the 2 additions don't mechanically work the same...  Because in MT, mass and any changes in mass do NOT affect a sh...

Re: Loaded vs. Unloaded M-ratings

Neither of these was overwritten until MT so by your understanding remain in force until DGP saddles us with the ridiculous thruster plate explanation in MT - which are TL11, what's the TL of MgT gravitic maneuver rives again? High Guard 2nd edition redid the drives to use relatively little fuel an...

Re: Loaded vs. Unloaded M-ratings

just to throw another wrench in the gears, What about how the alternate 'realistic' thrusters listed in the SRD work? The use reaction mass abstracted as increased fuel use for a form of g-turns ( fuel use related to total g's per hour until fuel runs out, isn't it? ) and yet they also ignore mass. ...

Re: Loaded vs. Unloaded M-ratings

I don't know whether this thread is making laugh or making me cry; I know it's make my dog cry .....seriously? a gravity well just in front of the ship that somehow ONLY affects the ship and not even its crew or cargo? if everyone/everything in he ship simply 'falls' towards the point source, then e...

Re: The speed of space travel

Discussing relativistic speeds without mentioning Lorentz or frames of reference? Near c rocks are what you get in a universe with reactionless drives and cheap energy....live with it or use 'realistic' thrusters ( rockets ) instead. Cold war era MAD policies and reactions should curtail them, mostly.

Re: Is The K'kree Navy A Threat - I Think Not!

That isn't what the "Virus" was supposed to be (just self replicating code). See original game material. Isn't DNA a form of self-replicating code? Instead of self-organizing proteins and the like, the chips were self-organizing silicon compounds. Not fantasy at all, but a reasonably common sci-fi ...

Re: Is The K'kree Navy A Threat - I Think Not!

I'd say that it depends on one's definition of "living organism". Self-replicating code is possible, so in at least one sense, code (data) that is self-replicating is exhibiting a characteristic that defines "living organism". In such a case, its the code that's the organism, and not the silicon. Th...

The 'standard' missile, as far as I know, is nothing more than an AIM-9 Sidewinder....in spaaace. At least when based on volumes and the like from older editions.

Re: Sand Casters IMTU - Comments Welcome

I prefer to think of sandcasters as chaff/flare dispensers. the original descriptions of how they affected lasers and missiles made little sense to me. I consider them as making the target harder to hit by preventing the attacking ship from getting an accurate firing solution. In fact, I'll often us...

Re: Starship Speed In Atmosphere

I forgot to include a way of calculating the speed of sound. for an ideal gas; speed of sound = sqrt ( 1.4 * 8.3144 * T * 1000 / M ) 1.4 is the adiabatic index for diatomic molecules ( that's over my head ) 8.3144 is the gas constant T is temperature in kelvin M is molar mass in g/mol for Earth, Vs ...
