Slow and Medicinal Slow?

Classic Traveller had a distinction between a "weaker" drug called Slow and a "stronger medical version called "Medical Slow". Now in the current MGT draft there is a drug called "Slow" which is used interchangeably in the text with "Medicinal Slow"... Which is the correct term?

Healing and skills

Pp.78-9 list the healing and medicine rules and talks about Medic checks and their Effect, but gives no target numbers or other check details. You can find the First Aid and Medical Care tasks on p.67 but not the Surgery task... I think that the healing rules should include the details of all releva...

Medical Care and High Technology

With the rules so far, the main benefit of high TL in the field of medicine is Medicinal Slow, which greatly speeds up healing. Secondary benefits include replacement limbs (how are limbs lost in Traveller gameplay anyway? Referee fiat?) and somewhat better Medikits. However, I'd like to imagine tha...

Re: No Robots or Drones?

I think once vehicles are situated and copacetic with the core rules, then robots can be calibrated with everything Traveller-wise. Some robots will be vehicles (drones). At the moment, I am leaning towards handling robots in two ways. Big robots will be drones and follow the Vehicle rules (with a ...

Re: [Playtest Focus] Equipment Chapter

The main changes, I note, are that armour values have gone up a bit since the last edition, and in effect the battle dress values indicate immunity from conventional weapons. Only heavy weapons can cause damage. If that is the intent, the fine by me - although I think that battle dress ought to be ...

Re: So how does space combat "feel"?

Thanks for the detailed breakdown of the changes here! What I do wonder is how the new High Guard is going to handle both a small-ship universe and a large-ship universe; which size of ships are we going to see in a fleet action? This would be interesting to see. Of course, available resources deter...

Re: Training new skills after chargen

Suppose... Suppose we said instead of one week per, we make it one _year_? Gets abstracted out, still make that EDU roll, but it becomes something that is very much in the background of long-running campaigns and not a factor in shorter ones? This will actually work pretty well. At this interval, h...

Re: Skill Progression and over-importance of EDU

Reliance on EDU is good. I think that something similar to the pre-enlistment University will work well for training.

Re: Training new skills after chargen

Agreed with the speed - though we have to acknowledge the times the EDU check will be failed. So, what should it be? I am tempted to say number of weeks equal skill level times ten, but that might put things out of reach... Try fitting it to the rate of skill acquisition during character generation...

So how does space combat "feel"?

One thing I wonder about is how does space combat "feel" in the new Mongoose rules. Is it a duel between swarms of small fighters as in Classic Traveller Book 2 (where a carrier carries the most guns for its tonnage)? A slog between massive naval ships as in Classic Traveller's Book 5: High Guard? A...

Updated polaytest files?

I received notice from DTRPG that the mGT playtest files have been updated. Can we have a list of changes in the new files so that we could look and see what has been changed?

Useability for Demo Games?

How useable is High and Dry for a demo game? I'd like to demo Traveller for players new to Traveller (and even to sci-fi gaming in general) and would LOVE to have a good demo adventure I can use to "show off" the game in all of its glory. Is it suitable?

Re: Free Trader/Far Trader

I'd even go as far as to offer characters who rolled the "Trader" benefit multiple times (3? 4? 5?) a choice of a Fat Trader/Subsidized Merchant with mortgage rather than a Free Trader without mortgage. Oh. by the way, I *LOVE* the new way ship shares work. Now you can use your share to have an actu...

Re: Army Vacc Suit Skill

Of course, the army could also be using walkers (bigger than a Battledress) which would be under Drive (Walker).

Maybe something like this (from the "Dust" wargame):

Also note on p.56:
Each level represents several years of experience using that skill, and grants DM+1 per level to all skill checks using that skill.
Several years of experience. Not 2 weeks.

Re: Training new skills after chargen

I'd go with something more realistic than the current draft rules - that is, Traveller-style skills (where even Skill-1 is an employable job skill) should improve VERY slowly, unless you actually go out and learn them, which takes time and money. You don't go from a paramedic's understanding of medi...
