Re: My Variant OTU

I suggest the following minor modifications to the map: - Zhodani only have Foreven holdings in subsector D. Otherwise the blue line stays in Ziaf..., not Foreven. - The Aslan have no "bump" in Foreven. They are purely in Beyond and Trojan Reach. - The coreward Imperial "pseudopod" is not there. It ...

Re: Traveller TNE?

BTW, I want to be completely transparent about one thing: I have intentionally left out the Solomani from any of these ideas. The reason is because Earth/Terra is too polarizing and (quite frankly) too limiting. With Earth in the picture, you have to worry about whether they are "good guys" or (like...

Re: Traveller TNE?

What I am looking for, however, is a variant of this where Foreven is the Imperial (as well as Zhodani, Aslan etc) frontier, so that I could write up about this mini-Imperium setting on my blog with MGT stats, under the Foreven License; and, besides, some of the best Traveller adventures ever are s...

Re: Traveller TNE?

By the way daryen , in your hypothetical ATU, where would be a "hard" frontier for the Imperium to expand to? One of my problems with the canonical OTU is the lack of real frontier for the Imperium, with all the adventure potential such a frontier will have. In the OTU, Charted Space is designed ar...

Re: Traveller 5th Edition

The Traveller setting for GURPS is in the year 1120 and there was no rebellion or virus. GURPS Space was needed for the game. The GURPS Traveller supplements that followed covered everything about the 3rd Imperium races, ships, and territories. GURPS Space was most definitely NOT required. At all. ...

Re: Traveller TNE?

By completely redoing and condensing the astrography, you are able to actually use all of those races at the same time . That is what I am talking about. Why is that so important though? That seems to be the only reason for your suggestion, and I just don't see why it's necessary or even why it's a...

Re: Traveller TNE?

Nope, my idea is way more freeing. The reason is that no matter what year you pick, you are stuck with the geography. You are stuck with where the various races are placed and how things are spaced. What geography? By 1300, the geography is completely different! (have you actually read 1248?). Of c...

Re: Traveller TNE?

That would make way more sense that trying to extend the OTU into the 1300+ time frame. As far as I can see it would be almost completely identical to trying to extend the OTU into the 1300+ timeframe. The only real difference is that 1300+ has some real chronological continuity with what came befo...

Re: Traveller TNE?

I would like to see a version of the OTU moved further ahead in time. Go past 1248, explore what lies beyond. Why bother with that? 1248 sets up a Fourth Imperium that will likely exist and expand for its 1000 years. Going farther than that becomes, for all intents and purposes, a brand new setting...

Re: Traveller 5th Edition

...So what now? Will we have different versions of the Traveller game battling against one another for everyones dollar? I doubt it. People will buy into the one they like, which ever one that is. I suspect there are some who have been waiting for this and haven't been happy with or bought into MgT...

Re: Prime Directive Traveller

I'm used to the solid black covers of Traveller and just text. But i can see why ADb is wanting a picture on the cover it helps sales for both. um... The Prime Directive cover is like, a direct clone of how the "Third Imperium" books mongoose puts out look. The solid black covers are the "rules", b...

Re: Traveller TNE?

BTW, I think this thread, even at just barely two pages, shows pretty conclusively why Mongoose will not be touching TNE (or probably even the Rebellion) at any point. The setting is just too polarizing and inflammatory for them to bother with. Why open that can of worms when they still have lots th...

Re: Traveller TNE?

Go through the Rebellion era to the point where the powers were reduced to isolated cores about a sector in size where they stopped due to war exhaustion. Then jump straight to the 1248 situation of the isolated cores each with a frontier zone and the wilds in between only it happens in 1148 instea...

Re: Space Combat

I got mine pretty much the very first opportunity it showed up, right out of the gate. So, when I say it was a first edition, it was a first edition. :) But I got the answer. The damage doesn't change, and the range affects the chance to hit only. I now have the table I was missing. That was what I ...

Re: Central Supply Catalogue- Disintegrator Question

I don't know about you, but if the RAW suck, time to throw them away and use what's cool, as long as it's well-thought out and consistent. Which is, of course, why I mentioned how I handle disintegrators. :) And, again, the CSC disintegrator is not a bad weapon. It is a cool weapon with the wrong n...

Re: Space Combat

I have one of the first USA printings of the Core Rulebook. Page 148 has the Weapon Range modifier chart of the various ship weapons. Nope, it's new than mine. On my page 148 is a large picture of a skirmish where two Type-Ts are fighting off some fighters and the Quick Resolution of Boarding Actio...

Re: Central Supply Catalogue- Disintegrator Question

I am sure the others are correct, and Alex described it wrong. A disintegrator does 2D6 to a person irrespective of armor because the "effect=armor" is so it can ignore the armor. It doesn't do "effect=armor" AND ignore armor in addition to that. That is the RAW. Now, what you do as a GM is, of cour...

Re: Traveller 5th Edition

Reducing physical and mental attributes to 0 results in death. Your clone is activated upon news of your death if you have life insurance. Whoa! Let's pause a moment on this item ... You mean to tell me that T5 stole Gold Cross from Car Wars!? Really? [Clarification: 'Stealing' ideas from other sys...

Space Combat

I have some quick questions that I hope can be quickly answered. In the Space Combat system in the Core Rulebook, the various weapons are given an "optimum" range. The rule on p147 for beam weapons says that the attack role is modified by the range to the target. Where are the rules for how the atta...

Re: Prime Directive Traveller

I am recommending two basic approaches: 1) If you don't leave the service (in other words you are adventuring while still in Star Fleet), then you are considered to still be in the same service. You do muster out, but this represents what you have gained over your career, not your rewards for gettin...
