Re: Robotic ships

Didn't the old Amber Zone adventure 'Dagger at Efate' involve a preprogrammed Type C cruiser jumping into the Efate system on a collision course with the planet?

EDIT: Just checked, yes, no humans onboard. JTAS 8, 1981.
EDIT 2: Sorry Alex Greene, you mentioned this up-thread!

Re: Robotic ships

As Professor Brian Cox says on the voice over DVD for Sunshine: (paraphrased) "why is there a crew on the Icarus 2? They are the back-up, a human crew trained to deal with all kinds of eventualities should the automated systems fail." And of course in Sunshine, a fairly simple one-way automated miss...

Re: Stats for the TOS Crew

Thats a nice, low key, rendering of the three main characters. That's how their CVs should have read, i bet it takes alot of restraint not to to stick a skill level just just because something appeared once in one of the shows. Maybe Electronics for Spock though? He's always helping Scotty out ... C...

Then there is no point except to use the Character names. Without anything else. What is the point?

Re: Describing Traveller Tech level

Okay, I and many other GM's used that product from Marc to make robots in the 3I. So you will want to revise your memory a bit. ;) Well, I don't know what happened in your games. How many books, and adventures do you remember robots featuring in? Argon Gambit? Prison Planet? Leviathan? etc etc? Too...

Re: Describing Traveller Tech level

Traveller is about people solving problems on their own, its why Marc Miller never included robots. Wasn't Classic Trav Book 8 ALL about Robots? It was, but I read an interview with Marc that says just that, I guess Book 8: Robots came about from fan pressure. Only the Zhodani ever use them, and th...

Re: Describing Traveller Tech level

Definately NOT Star Trek TNG or VOY. It may be this that is causing the upset, in ST technology is a plot busting wonder tool that the writers are constantly having to find workarounds for. Whereas in Aliens, its like today, just with more power. Traveller is about people solving problems on their o...

Re: art on Imperial Credits

The question of whose face goes on the money would get a bit complicated during the Barracks Emperor era, and in the Rebellion timeline. "Sorry, we're not allowed to accept Lucan notes here. I wouldn't count on anything else issued after 1116 for much longer, except maybe Zirunkariish Travellers' C...

Maybe the 1/4 could be called a 'quarter' (natch) and the half a credit a 'Demi', at least one denomination should be called a 'Ponii' after the English slang for £25, which is 'Pony'.

If you draw a direct line from Sol to the Spinward Marches on the map of Charted Space it cuts directly through Deneb. To stand and look at the Spinward Marches look for Deneb and Cygnus the swan, the Spinward Marches are behind Deneb!

Re: analogs for the Humans?

thanks guys! Insightful responses. It is good to hear from experienced players when you are trying to learn a new setting. I can't explain the universe to my game group if I can't get a handle on things myself! I had already sorta clued into the Zhodoni as Indians motif. I did not pick up on any of...

Re: analogs for the Humans?

If you consider the Zhodani as 'neutral', rather than an evil empire, Vulcans make quite a good analogy. Logic brought about by total understanding of the workings of the mind. Society ordered by that knowledge, and of course, psionics. I've thought of the 3i as a British Empire analog, with aristoc...

Re: [Zozer Games] Planetary Tool Kit 3: Mazandaran

I have thought about it carefully... there is a large ocean that the river feeds into, and the river rises in a large mountain range, which receives much of the rain from off-shore weather fronts. So it acts as a large water cycle. The region was uplifted (like the Tharsis bulge on Mars), creating t...
