Advanced turn order

Can we have an advanced turn order, incorporating all the rules. Something like: Initiative phase Movement Phase • The player who lost the Initiative moves a ship first • Both players alternate in moving all ships • The player who won the initiative chooses who moves their motor torpedo boats first ...

Re: Questions

- To know the range of the scope of the guns, divide it by 4, are the fractions rounded? For example: a cannon with a range of 37 "What is your extreme range? From 27.75 "to 37"? Yes. But that will change in the next version of the rules. - In the attacks with torpedoes the modifiers are applied ju...

Re: Torpedos rules

Both of us read it that way. We probably just weren't thinking that torpedo damage dice work differently.

Does that mean a ship with 5 armour and torpedo belt 2 can never be damaged by torpedoes in the side arc?

Re: Torpedos rules

We had a game tonight and torpedoes featured heavily. Please correct me if I made any mistakes. First shot - a H class destroyer draws along side the Scharnhorst at point blank range, fires, hits and realises that the torpedo belt 3 completely negates the torpedoes 3DD. Second the HMS Norfolk comes ...

Re: Welcome to the Open Playtest (start here)

1/4 and 3/4 ranges are very hard to calculate on the fly. Recommend either including a small table on the ship chart with the 1/4, 1/2, 3/4 ranges for its weapons, or a reference chart with said columns for every range from like 5-40 inches. I second this. First edition range bands were simple. Sec...

Re: Torpedos rules

With the long lance fan, if you roll a roll a 6 do all three AD hit one ship? So if range affects torpedoes most torpedoes need get within 5" or 6" to hit on a 6. (or long range when firing at the side). Except for the Type 93, which can hit at 25.5" range on the side. Extreme range shots are imposs...

Re: Trying to Identify a Ship

Looking at the Arethusa class, I think I agree. I'm now fairly certain it is the HMS Aurora, as it has no aircraft.

Re: Trying to Identify a Ship

I am starting to think it is the post-refit Achilles. It lost its X turret to a bomb attack.

I can't find any pictures on the net to confirm this though.

Trying to Identify a Ship

I'm trying to identify a ship: It is light cruiser size. I think it is British. It is bigger than a C-class and smaller than a Town class. It has two funnels and three turrets with twin guns - A,B & X. It has what look like 4 twin turrets with smaller guns or AA guns behind the X turret. Can anyone ...

Re: Welcome to the Open Playtest (start here)

The weapons critical track: Is the -1AD, -2AD etc for secondary weapons cumulative. ie when a ship reaches critical level 3, could it be at -6AD? Also, critical level 3 is described as turret damaged, but the -3AD is inflicted on secondaries or AA etc, is this correct? Radar: Radar is described as: ...

Re: Welcome to the Open Playtest (start here)

Come About! This is presumably intended to only be a single extra turn, the first time you turn, whether it's after a 2" move, or more, or whatever. Equally does the 2" prescription interact with a destroyer with the agile trait? They should be able to turn after a 1" move, after all. I agree. This...

Re: Victory at Sea Playtesting - Basic Rules

Can a ship that performs Come About! make two 90 degree turns? It can make two turns - but why would they be 90 degrees (not sure I am following you)? A ship can make one turn of 45 degrees after moving 2". It can makes multiple turns, turning after every 2" . If it comes about it can make 2 turns ...

Re: Balancing VaS

We don't allow hits at greater then 6. We do penalise flank speed by give the flanking ship a -1 penalty to shoot. Destroyers usually coming steaming in head on, as they don't need to turn side on until in range. So if you get a radar lock, if you have radar, you can maybe shoot them at range if the...

Re: Balancing VaS

Both games were 5 point battle. In game one the Japanese had: Yamoto Nagato 2 x Mogami 4 x Fubuki destroyers In both games the Americans had: Washington (North Carolina class) Alabama (South Dakota) Tennessee In the first game the Americans concentrated on the Japanese cruisers and took them out. Balancing VaS

How do you balance games of VaS? I played US against the Japanese this week and got massacred twice. Their ships are streets ahead of comparable American ships and their destroyers are unstoppable.

So in the absence of points, how do you make pick-up games viable?

Re: VAS 2

The original game did well enough without models. I for one won't be replacing my Navwar fleet with fancy new big ships. (though I did say the same thing about B5!). Give us the book already!

* We have been looking at something like £10 for a large Battleship.
Of course that will be adjusted by inflation, so by the time they come out, that will be closer to £1000.
