"waking up in a Zingaran brothel, hungover, drunk and wanted by the local militia - when they ended the last game setting on a pile of Nemedian gold- Hee hee ^_^ well that's pretty harsh, I'll also yet have to see how my players would react to that. Maybe always plan in some time to describe how th...

That's all fair and true, but the linear scaling has the disadvantage that racial ability modifiers become worthless, unless you set the favoured ability to 19 or 20 (including the modifier). Maybe a re-write of point buy for heroic campaigns is in order? Maybe: 14 > 15 : 1,5 pts 15 > 16 : 1,5 pts 1...

Re: Wandering Characters

Dude, I'm really sorry to hear that. So Im reduced to perhaps not puting as much effort into future games. No miniatures, markers and chess pieces instead. No cool table top dioramas and such but dry erase only. No detailed environments, instead just get a basic notion of the culture and wing the de...

Well, I want them to be pretty tough, fit for a heroic campaign. They shouldn't be too Über either -- for example, Conan's own 1st-level stats must all have been between 16 and 18 if you look at the Road of Kings char sheet. That would be too much. Although Conan RPG is far more generous in level ad...

Unholy Thread Revival! Since we're about to start our first Conan campaign in two days, I (as the GM) could use some input concerning ability generation method. Personally I like the 4d6 method. When I use it, I usually allow 7 rolls, drop lowest, because I like high-powered campaigns. I do not lik...

Regarding Bane weapons: yes, these should have their special effect only against one particular enemy (and maybe be destroyed with the killing blow). But up until then, they may very well function as normal weapons (or even have a slight edge over these). One example outside of Conan would be the Bl...

A suit of Plate Armour costs more than a hundred beautiful slave girls. I intend to keep that out of my party's reach for quite a while. Come to think of it, I am using a slightly different - more savage, less civilized - setting, where even _with_ the necessary loose change the characters will have...

Yeah, the Barbarian's allround-critter ability really makes up for all the forbidden combat style feats (Weapon Focus and the like). Even in D&D (3E) I tried to expand the threat range to a decent value, like using any type of sword with the Keen enhancement and Improved Crit -- voilà, 15-20 threat ...

Plus I think that there has always been a cry for a Monk class in every D20 game system.
That's funny. In my homebrew D&D campaign, the first thing I did was to ban the Monk class.

Smooth!
Did you write that yourself, or is this from some official source?
Either way I guess I'm gonna use that.

Part of the "problem" that I see with magic items is "power creep". [...] Aside from that Conan is great not because of some fabled sword that he carries but because he's Conan. I absolutely agree with you there. In fact I've long been looking for a D20-based game that does not NEED magic items to ...

Try it with the rule as it is and see how you find it.

We're just starting our campaign this weekend, but looking at the stats, I noticed that compared to the SRD, most weapons' damage dice have been augmented by a single step (like d6 -> d8). The Greatsword, however, as been increased two steps (2d6 -> 2d8 -> 2d10), and though the Bardiche has no real ...

Legendary Items

Hello folks, just registered here, going to start a campaign using the Conan ruleset this weekend, and I got suckered into GMing. (I have D&D player experience and GM experience in other systems, so that should work out) I'm already sorting thoughts for a long-term campaign: one of the aspects I lov...
