Re: A Question on Laser Range in 2300AD

I'd be inclined to ignore the core rulebook range table all together. 2300AD doesn't use missiles, pulse or beam lasers from the core rules, but instead uses it's own weapon systems. All beam weapons have the same effective range in 2300AD, regardless of laser or particle accelerator. Missiles are m...

Re: 2300AD energy sources

Personally, I think the most radical discovery would be a better way to harness the energy from natural resources, by which I mean that at the moment to turn oil or gas or coal into electricity we burn it to make steam which is used to turn a series of high and low pressure turbines which generate e...

Re: Modular ships in 2300 - more flexibility possible?

The Bughunters game for Amazing Engines does something like this. Written back in 1993 by Lester Smith, one of the old GDW guys who also worked on 2300AD; it is heavily influenced by Aliens and 2300AD. The star drive is very similar but without the 7.7 LY threshold. Instead normal humans must enter...

The Thorez design requires 12 bridge crew and 3 engineering.

The cargo on the Anjou is also short 40 tons, should be 1752.7.

Re: 2300: stutterwarp efficiency

Correct. Tactical speed is this doubled. You need to calculate two values for each ship, the loadad and unloaded value. Loaded value is the total tonnage and unloaded is tonnage minus any tonnage allocated to cargo (not an exact way of calculating it, as the "tonnage" is actually displacment, not ma...

Re: 2300AD timeline question

Things will likely proceed differently from Invasion, though there will be a conflict. One option is to develop three mutually-exclusive campaign books, supported by folio-type books, for a military (Kaefer War) campaign, some sort of Troubleshooter campaign involving Core High tech, and an explora...

Re: 2300AD timeline question

Really looking forward to Prometheus, which makes me wonder if there are any sorts of huge mysteries to be solved in 2300AD. Are there some kind of metaplot going on? E. Not a metaplot per-se. There was the Kafer war, but that was more of a background to plot adventures against. There are plenty of...

Kaefers have no nose, though - another problem with the Kafer sourcebook illo was the ridiculous hooked nose it gave them. ("My Kaefer has no nose!" "How does he smell?" BLAM BLAM BLAM BLAM "Dead!")

Re: 2300AD TL

Why no netrunning? It was in the Earth/Cybertech sourcebook (with a distictly anachronistic feel, granted - DOS towers indeed!) Netrunning was a key component of the Deathwatch Program and less so, but still important in Rotten to the Core.

Re: Warhammer Conversion

The big difference that balaced out the races in WFRP was the fate points. Combat could be deadly (unless you were the naked Dwarf) and fate points were an important part of player survivability. In my opinion races should be balanced for the purposes of character creation. Whilst Elves as a whole m...

Re: Ideas on Mongoose staff responding to article submission

I've had replies from Matt before I've asked the question. Clearly he's either in posession of a wormhole or a psychic. I once decided NOT to ask the question, thereby causing a paradox, but it gave me a headache.

Re: Ideas on Mongoose staff responding to article submission

On the couple of occasions when I have contacted Matt he's been very responsive and helpful. On another couple of occasions I contacted other staffmembers who were quick enough to respond, but quite... curt. That was a while ago, though, so there may have been a turnover in staff since then.

Of course it's not a serious weapon, I just found it interesting and amusing.

Re: Pirate Ship Design

Id suggest a different paradigm. One of the most valuable things you can steal is... the whole ship. Look at modern pirates, they don't faff about unloading cargo - they zoom up, board the ship and sail it to a safe port and ransom it back, or cut it up. So, I think you'd want something like a long-...

Yup. I probably spent as many hours shuffling programs in and out of extended and expanded memory and writing custom boot files as i did actually modelling. Anybody who says the modern versions of Windows aren't a step forward has never had to write an autoexec.bat and system.ini file. Hey, I've wr...
