Re: Writing an LOTR Second Age port for use with Legend

No reason from my end, I'm just responding to what's already in Lubidius' document. I'm not exactly a Tolkien scholar, though I do recall something to this effect in my old MERP books from my ancient youth. You're right, I should have replied to the other poster. Also, MERP never was a very close f...

Re: New Common Magic Spells

Seal the Outside sounds like a candidate for a Sorcery spell rather than Divine. Certainly in a Gloranthan context, it's a very God Learner thing to do. In another context - if there is a justification for a deity to have a power that intervenes in other deities' relationships, such as a psychopomp ...

Why would Middle Earth dwarves and elves have infravision? I don't recall that ever being mentioned.

Re: New Common Magic Spells

How about adding some of the aura sight functionality into Soul Sight (MRQ2 pg 113, Legend pg 168), such as enabling a perception check to reveal some things reserved for insight (emotional state etc) and potential disruption to the aura as suggested. Soul Sight is divine - but this raises a good p...

Re: Heroic Abilities for Magicians

Okay - I've tried rewriting the Contingent Spell ability, to make it clearer. Would the spell and condition be always the same? I think that the condition should be at least. There would probably be a small selection of conditions available at each place that teaches it, but I'd allow the player to...

Re: Range of Sight

That probably wasn't what you were asking, but apart from that I really can't tell you how far you can see in a fog. Some light fogs you can see as far as 200 meters in, others you can't see more than 50 meters. I was once in a fog so thick that I literally couldn't see my hand in front of my face,...

Re: Old RQ Spirits

It might just because Legend Spirit Magic doesn't really work with things like Power Spirits, Intellect Spirits and Magic Spirits. However, I'd just include them as they are in RQ3. The existence of certain spirit types is more an attribute of a game world than of a rule system. MRQ reduces the nee...

Re: New Common Magic Spells

Can you devise a spell that quite literally "sees the colour of the spirit" to be able to tell the targets "alignment" or general personality/wellness. For example a human's aura depends on their profession - so a warrior would have black tinged with red aura, whereas a healer would be light blue, ...

Re: Defaulting from an Advanced Skill Using Characteristics?

Combat styles are Common skills, not Advanced, so anyone can have a go at "Flaming Meteor and Kazoo" style at STR+DEX chance if they want. I think it's justifiable that certain exotic weapons (such as Flaming Meteor, for example) should be houseruled as Advanced, though.

Re: Heroic Abilities for Magicians

Common Sorcery Requirements: INT 15+, Manipulation 90% Hero Points: 15 Duration: 1 spell Allows the magician to apply manipulation skills to Common Magic. Hmmm. My instincts are to be very careful about allowing this. Being able to Demoralize 10 people at once for only 3 MPs is pretty powerful. Rem...

Dates back to a much much earlier version of Runequest when many of the races had some, erm, interesting dice rolls for stats

Unless its been changed and I didn't notice
I don't think that has ever been a RuneQuest rule.

Re: Difficulty and Haste table error p40

Hiya! :) Your difficulty and Haste table on page 40 is wrong - the Time Taken values are the wrong way round. Currently it takes ten times the normal time to do a Very Easy task, progressing down to Almost Onstantly doing a Formidable task! Cheers, Sam / Bifford That's not how the table works. It's...

Maybe the more powerful moves requires expenditure of (a significant number of) magic points (like chi )... By spending time studying the opponent's technique the fighter can determine the perfect time to strike, gaining a cumulative +10% to one blow against that opponent. I like this combination. ...

Re: The king’s cut

I have not come across explicit import taxes on goods 'passing through' - ie remaining on a ship in transit that is stopping to take on supplies etc. However there must have been some sort of harbour fee or levy for doing so. Such a fee may unofficially be proportional to the trader's ability to pa...

I have long desired a martial arts system that works like in the movies, where the fight builds up from routine manoeuvres into increasingly more spectacular and outrageous moves. It would require some kind of points system to determine what abilities become available to each side, taking risks to i...

That's a pretty vitriolic comment. I appreciate people have different views, but to "paraphrase" me like that is a pretty negative statement. I was trying to have a civilised conversation. Your comment is not helpful. I'm quite tempted to report this post, but I'll settle on disregarding it as best...

I don't think that that is a reasonable expectation. This is a small hobby market that we are talking about.
