Re: Combat maneuver select location

I have altered chose location to allowing the attacker to alter the location dice roll by +/-5. If it is a critical, they can select the location as normal. Do they pick the CM before rolling the location dice? Or do you let them roll the location, then decide whether it's worth picking Choose Loca...

Re: astronomy

... the real world has no actual magic and gods, in a fantasy world where astrology actually works , people will pay more attention to it. It actually does have real magic and gods. We invented the idea, enough to have believed in it in the past. Oh, yes the real world has the idea of magic...

Re: astronomy

Seriously, the mundane version of astronomy is the older and less modern version - not that pseudomystical astrology garbage. The oldest astronomy concerned itself with predicting the turn of the seasons, agriculture and the Spring flooding of the Nile delta. That's partly because the real world ha...

Re: Martial arts combat maneuvers

I was thinking about this recently and was sure someone had written something for it already. As it turned out it was Loz himself.. http://runeunderwater.blogspot.com/2011/04/martial-arts-combat-maneuvers-for.html That s by Loz? I remember seeing it and thinking how poorly thought out and inconsist...

Re: Excel resources for mqr2 or legend

Is there a similar resource for other equipment and pricing? I have found a lot of the tables in the PDFs i bought are images and take a few more steps to convert to spreadsheet tables. The PDFs are all copyable text, but I only did the errata tables from A&E which had been made publicly available....

Yes. Well, it's in OpenOffice format but that isn't an insurmountable problem.

Re: Gaining sorcery spells

MRQ2 was always a bit vague about this. Some people say that you get 4 spells because that's how many there are in a custom grimoire, but there's no basis for that conclusion in the rules.

Well, it does say "the skill's value is modified accordingly", so that implies that it does. I'm reluctant to allow it though, but I would for craft skills.

Re: Familiars

Out of curiosity how was this handled? In RQ3, you take an incomplete creature (a creature that is lacking any of the stats other than CHA, fixed-INT creatures counted as lacking INT) and casting Create Familiar (Characteristic) on them, multispelled for all the missing characteristics, and transfe...

Re: Legend Excel Character Sheet

I then added a column called "Choices". This column is for players to enter the skill bonuses received when they have a choice between skills. I think this should work well; players will still need to lookup what their choices are, but that should be ok. I handled this by highlightig the choosable ...

Re: Familiars

Have familiars ever been present in MRQ? I have a player who is of the Witch Profession and is interested in obtaining a familiar. I can always come up with something, perhaps using BRP, but if there is a good MRQ resource out there, I would really like to know. No, familiars got dropped along with...

Re: Combat maneuver select location

The choosing of CMs is my least favourite Legend/MRQ2 rule, mainly because Choose Location is so overwhelmingly popular. I am very tempted to make it "critical only" in my game. Also it slows down combat with less rules-savvy players looking through the list and asking about them.

Re: Legend Excel Character Sheet

I downloaded the Excel version. That is pretty much the exact layout I need to automate the Cultures and Professions. You have just saved me a lot of typing! Thank you! :D Now I just have to put it all into place... Version 2.1 had some mistakes in the professions so you should use the numbers in t...

My spreadsheet has all the cultures from the main rulebook and the Gloranthan supplements. If you do decide to implement cultural and profession skills, feel free to plunder the raw data from it.

Re: Why 21?

I don't mind that at all but I think that book authors need to let us know why some things are they way they are on occasion. Just remember that we don't have the database of knowledge you might have. The "book authors" don't work for Mongoose any more, although Loz does occasionally post here stil...

Re: Writing an LOTR Second Age port for use with Legend

Although, and this might not apply to a 2nd Age setting, I always get the impression that the Elves were fading, collectively and individually. Though they are the same people as those that walked with the 'gods', they do not have the same legendary capacities. The capabilities, we know. To an exte...

Re: Writing an LOTR Second Age port for use with Legend

I have an idea how to model elven or dwarven crafting: "By taking a penalty of -50 to a crafting skill, the crafter can imbue the item with a bonus of +5% to a specific skill or +1 to a specific bonus such as damage, or 1 point of Common Magic spell. When a crafter's skill exceeds each 100% threshol...

Re: Writing an LOTR Second Age port for use with Legend

I don't think just changing the name is the right answer - is there any mention anywhere of either being able to see in total darkness? I'd have thought it would be mentioned as they enter Moria before Gandalf makes his staff glow, or in Helm's Deep caves. Elves have exceptionally keen vision and vi...
