Re: Swashbuckling Adventurers - Are they Viable?

If you want a swashbuckling game, then make wearing armour difficult. Increase the armour penalties, make them slower and so on.

You could also add extra abilities to do with movement, agility, jumping and so on.

Re: Land of Ice and Stone

Another couple of questions - is this a standalone book or the first in a new product line? Also, will any of the contents be released as OGC? Hopefully the first in a line. I want to cover the Mammoth Steppe and the people of northern Iberia, but it depends on how much time I have, how angry my wi...

Re: Land of Ice and Stone

And this is a cool topic for a book - so far as I am aware nobody has touched the topic since GURPS Ice Age :D I like the idea of a campaign with a Clan of the Cave Bear vibe - and Spirit Magic would work very well in such a setting. That's what I thought. Magic is there, with a few primitive cults...

Damn! I forgot to take that down - it was something I was playing around with last year.

It has been taken down now - nothing to see here, please move along.

Re: Healing Potions

We have done the "Climbing over a pile of corpses to get at the bad guys" in RQ and it worked really well. I have never been a fan of the "D100 means you think before going into combat" idea. Sure, tactics are important and a poorly-armoured, poorly-equipped, magic-light PC should avoid combat where...

Re: Healing Potions

I allow healing potions to be made by anyone with the Alchemy skill who has the knowledge/recipe for a Healing Potion. They are sold by Healing cults, witches, wise women, Earth cultists, Adventurer's Guilds, Alchemist's Guilds and so on. I have them as being medium-cost, so less expensive than buyi...

Re: Solomon Kane - Legend Style

If you want an idea of what elves should be like, then read Terry Pratchett's "Lords and Ladies". Elves from folklore can be mischievous, playful, impish characters, they can be allof, stern characters, many are child-stealing womanisers, at best, or multiple rapists at worst. For Solomon Kane, I wo...

Re: Ley Lines

Does anyone use Ley Lines in their games? I use them in Merrie England and would use them in a Bronze Age or Iron Age setting in Northern Europe/Britain. Mine would be a lighter touch that Prime Evil's, though, as I tend to make things easier and more flexible. Ley Lines are magical pathways or cor...

Re: Legend and Common magic: Who uses it?

stuff... The point of the post though was to highlight how magic can be very powerful if used creatively and that we as GM's need to be mindful of some of these effects and how we manage that power in our games. Which should be fairly high in every GM's handbook. Players always find inventive ways ...

Re: Spirit combat question

I normally ignore Dedicated POW anyway - horrible rule. So, use the person's full POW in all cases. MPs in crystals and other MP stores should not be included, in my opinion. The POW of a Spirit Enhancer Crystal should probably be added, as this was designed to boost POW in Spirit Combat. I'm not su...

Nun - Novice, Nurse, Teacher

With Sailor, you probably need something about tramp-steamer, as all pulp ships of worth are tramp-steamers.

Re: Pulp Professions

Maybe Philanthropist under Moneyman, Mad Scientist under Scientist?

I'd have a Mystic as well, there are loads of examples of mystics in pulp fiction, especially if you include Dennis Wheatley-type fiction.

The professions listed are, indeed, very pulpy.

Re: Creating new player races for Legend.

RuneQuest has always allowed and promoted the use of non-humans as PCs, it has been one of its many strengths over the years. Legend has continued this fine tradition, albeit not as explicitly. Looking over at my Chaosium 1980 RuneQuest 2nd Edition rulebook. Character creation on page 8 is for human...

Re: Creating new player races for Legend.

I'm new to Legend and I notice the core rules only really cover player characters who are human. There do not seem to be any suppliments which cover creating additional player races for character creation selection. I also have not found any discussions on the subject in the forums - if I overlooke...

Re: Your rules for character creation?

Roll randomly then assign the results to whichever stats you prefer, but always roll an extra D6 and ignore one die. Players can invent their own Backgrounds/Professions, as long as they stay within the correct skill points. PCs start at the same level, experience-wise. Limits on skills are level-ba...
