Second Age Ralios is very nice indeed.

This is the kind of thing we need for Glorantha (Second Age and Third Age - Moon Design take note!). Cheap (£2.65) little PDFs with a lot of information.

I liked it a lot.

What's so good about Glorantha? 1. The Mythology - Glorantha has a very detailed mythology and many different pantheons that interact 2. The History - Each region of Glorantha has a detailed history going back thousands of years 3. The Lands - Glorantha has many different lands, each of which have n...

It might not be what you're after, but the tail end of my History of Malkionism has overview flavour text and background for the Second Age. The new "Unfinished Work" has much more detail about God Learner sects and schisms. Cheers, Nick It does, indeed. If you want an overview of the different Mal...

Well, that's Third Age Dragon Pass, Lunars, Apple Lane, Zombies and Ducks. Second Age Dragon Pass is very different. To the South are the Shadowlands, ruled by a Demigod, the Only Old One. To the North is Dagori Inkarth, ruled by trolls. To the East is Prax, a land of beastmen. To the West are mount...

Re: Boating and other Basic Skills

I'm looking at the Basic Skills table on page 6 and I have to wonder, why is Boating a basic skill? In updating Runequest to the modern era, I decided to apply the rule in GURPS where what a person can do without training depends on the character's background. So a person from the modern era might ...

OK, I've added a few more skill combinations and put them in an easy-to-view spreadsheet. http://www.soltakss.com/rqm01.xls Basically, you have a list of skill pairs and the results as percentages for each rules combination. What is interesting, and unexpected, is that Highest Roll and Makes by the ...

Re: Size o fRunes

I figure they're as big as you want them to be. Evil GM thought.... GM: "The Broo finally flee, their shaman collapsed beside the massive sarsen stone on which he had placed his hand during the combat." Player: "Have a look at the boulder. How big is it?" GM: "It's about 3m tall, and 2m b...

A very thoughtful post soltakss. I noted the following. Resolution Rules: Lowest Wins - on the same success level, the lowest roll wins Highest Wins - on the same success level, the lowest roll wins Of course, that should read Highest Wins - on the same success level, the highest roll wins it was a...

[Fairly Long] I didn't realise there were so many problems with the Halving Rule/Lowest Wins resolution until I did some calculations. The following were calculated with the following rules: 1. Two loops 1 to 100 to capture all possible dice roll combinations. 2. Better Level Wins (Critical beats Su...

I thought they had gone for highest roll wins for that reason.

That's another reason why "made it by the most" is better than "lowest roll or "highest roll".

Ah well, I'll have to read the rules properly.

Thanks for the Elric link, I'll have a look at it.

Even though increasing your skill can sometimes reduce your overall chance of success by over 25%? You must realy like it a lot to let that pass. Does it? I thought it was relative and if both of you failed then you rolled again. Admittedly, you don't automatically succeed if you are opposing a ski...

Ok, but that was using the RQ2 rules, not MRQ. I can't rememebr the RQ2 rules in detail, but I am surprised you amanged to get to such high skill levels without significantly patching the advancement system. Well, not at all. We used the standard rules (minimum of INT when rolling experience, incre...

Well, in our current campaign (RQ3 with some aspects of RQM), we have POW Gain rolls costing 1 Experience Point if POW was overcome during the session or a rune/crystal was attuned and 3 if it wasn't. Our PCs have been sacrificing for runes left, right and centre, even though they don't find runes t...

We've used the "roll an extra die and ignore one" ever since RQ2, so over 20 years. If we want a low characteristic then we ignore a high roll, if we want a high one then we ignore a low roll. If a characteristic is character-destroying (STR 4 for a fighter, for example) then I allow one reroll of t...

In RQ2, we had a high level campaign that started with prior experience or straight rollups and ended up with characters ranging from 150% to 300%. It is ridiculously easy to get high skills if you play the same characters every week for 5 or 6 years. In RQM, of course, it is restricted in that ther...

When I first read the halving rule for skills over 100%, I thought "What a clever solution". RQ2 had anti-parry, RQ3 had no resolution, RQM has skill halving. Of the three, skill halving is probably best. I'd still retain criticals etc. on opposed tests as they are an extra level of resolution. So, ...

Abstraction sucks because it doesn't give you a baseline to use when making judgements. How tall is Size 9? Can she (I have a female Acrobat as a test character) reach that shelf 1.83m (approx. 6ft) up above to get the magical pie, or will she need to climb to get it? Well, if your character is SIZ...

Regarding the problems along the lines of "Can a STR 15 person carry a SIZ 16 person?", the simplest mechanism is to use Opposed rolls of Characteristicx5%. So, STR 15 vs SIZ 16 requires an Opposed Roll of 75% vs 80%, using the standard Opposed Roll rules. The same can apply for POW vs POW, DEX vs S...

Re: Runequest/Glorantha newb

I like it so far, I am sort of a newbie as well, I just think the beastriders are silly. I'd have thought ducks and baboons are sillier. They ride buffalo and camels in Asia, reindeer in Siberia and horses everywhere else, so most of them are similar to Real World people. Nobody in the real world r...
