Re: What would happen to these overstayers

Nope, the IRA are cowardly murderous terrorist scum. 'Mob' always brings to mind the glamourised American-Itallian mafia. Most of the violence in UK that makes the news these days is gang related or terrorist linked. Organised crime 'hits' are rarely reported, unlike Russian assassination of innocen...

Re: How to get justice?

Sorry you lost me.

Whose family are you looking for the options for? The noble or the criminal?

Is this a human 'alien' race or an 'alien' alien race?

Re: What would happen to these overstayers

For the benefit of A Modern-Day Version of Traveller what, in The UK, would happen to these 3 guys who only overstayed due to something going wrong that they had no control over. Here's more info 1's Visa ran out at 8.00AM but the customs guy accidentally used The Stamper whose leave by time bit wa...

Re: What would The Emperor do?

The Empereor has two choices in how to deal with duke Flashheart:
use him to increase the popularity of the Emperor himself
or
assassinate him and pin it on a foreign power.

Quite how duke Flashheart can become such a paragon in a universe with no FTL comms is a bit of a mystery...

Re: Possible reprecussions?

There is a very long history of military commanders, both generals and admirals, having to sacrifice part of their forces in order to achieve an objective. It was rarely a matter of asking for volunteers, the commander would pick the units to be deployed and send then off to their certain deaths. Ru...

Re: 2300AD - Any News?

I think by this point you can pretty much remove any reference to a Twilight War in the background to 2300AD.

There are plenty of other conflicts we could postulate:

break up of EU
India vs Pakistan
Israel vs Iran
China vs Korea
China vs Japan
China vs India
USA civil war 2

Re: 2300AD - Any News?

One correction - the upper stage of the BFR is only SSTO from a world with much lower gravity than Earth, that's why the first stage is necessary to get it off Earth. (e.g. Mars). That's not what I heard Elon Musk say about it. He said it was a single stage to orbit vehicle in an interview, he did ...

Re: Regrowing an arm and other medical advantages

According to T5 cloning bodies, organs, replacement parts and forced growth are a mature TL13 technology.

So you could introduce expensive TL11-12 versions.

Electro-mechanical prosthesis are available at lower TLs.

Re: Brainstorming a Ringworld adventure

Sorry Tom , but the maths doesn't work in your or Isaac's favour. There is no known material that can withstand the stresses on a rotating ringworld of Niven's design - Isaac even says so in his video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yk-Ivm9MhYs&t=27s at 9:34. All of his solutions require handwavium ...

Re: Brainstorming a Ringworld adventure

Ringworlds are not possible with known physics an material science limitations. Everything you mention as a solution to building a ringworld requires handwavium at best, unobtanium at worst. You can not build a ringworld by just using more matter - 1000 times you say - as the mass of matter would be...

Re: Brainstorming a Ringworld adventure

To make a ringworld you need a superscience-ly strong material - in the setting this is called scrith. It is dense enough to protect the ringworld inhabitants from the exploding galactic core... Pak protectors of the original species have genius level intelligence+, they invented scrith and made it ...

Re: Brainstorming a Ringworld adventure

The hardest thing for me to swallow is that of an alien race building this thing for humans to live on, this is why I don't go the alien route in my version of this thing. Niven makes an alien ringworld, with gravity and day length just a little bit off, but with the primary inhabitants being human...
