Re: Legend Personality types

Have you seen how RQ6 handles this? It uses Passions, where any personality type or relationship could be a passion, say Love of family, duty to Lord, curious, etc. That Passion gets a skill rating just like any other skill. It can be used to enhance or reduce other skills as appropriate, by twice t...

Re: Legend and Common magic: Who uses it?

In my experience with D&D & Legend creative magic using PC's can often reduce an encounter, especially if they have the luxury of being be able to prepare ahead of time, from being challenging/difficult to ridiculously easy. I was running the Caravan adventure from RQ6 Book of Quests. The party had...

Re: Legend and Common magic: Who uses it?

One thought regarding controlling spellcasters, particularly sorcerers, is: How common are the various forms of magic dispelling? After all, a well rounded combat team in a magic common world would surely have a variety of means to cancel magic, particularly if they had an official role/position. Th...

Re: Legend and Common magic: Who uses it?

While I appreciate that many may not like the concept of "non-magicians" using magic, much of the system assumes the usage of common magic by all characters I don't agree. The Rules in Legend specifically state that Common magic is an Optional rule. Saying it may or may not be appropriate for your ...

Re: Legend and Common magic: Who uses it?

While I appreciate that many may not like the concept of "non-magicians" using magic, much of the system assumes the usage of common magic by all characters. OpenQuest, another variant of the system, offers a different way to resolve this issue. It suggests that the common magic system be viewed as ...

Re: Arcania of Legend: The Four Elemental Ways

Another brief thought connected to the Animate(substance), Form/Set(substance) combination. Maybe include the skill Craft(element) as a cult skill for those orders teaching those spell combinations, as the Form/Set spell includes references to having an appropriate craft skill. Elemental mastery als...

Re: Arcania of Legend: The Four Elemental Ways

I've just downloaded the book and am skimming through it now. Page 14 and 16 show the cycle of elements and talk about how an Elementalist can never use his opposing element, and the text uses the example of a Fire Elementalist who can never learn water magics. All fair enough, except the picture of...

Re: Arcania of Legend: The Four Elemental Ways

Stuff... I see your point. From a mechanical POV there isn't any real benefit to the spell (there is, by the way, an Elementalist version of Wrack in the book), however, Elementalists tend to be show offs and this spell is something that's a bit flashy and kinda cool. Similar effects can be achieve...

Re: Arcania of Legend: Necromancy and Demonology

Will necromancy and demonology be together in one source book? I would really dig a big magic book with all the arcanias of legend together in one volume: blood magic, necromancy, demonology, etc. Also, the Advanced Sorcery for Magic World (d100 compatible) will be available soon, which is awesome....

Re: Arcania of Legend: The Four Elemental Ways

I was looking at your spell and wondering - what advantages does it actually have over Wrack(fire)? Yes it does a higher base damage but that doesn't increase with skill, unlike most damaging spells from the core book. It also would be more expensive in magic points, requiring a fresh cast each time...

Re: Spells of Legend

Re the Contraceptive spell. For many of the same reasons mentioned in an older thread where a spell was proposed that removed or enhanced Fertility, such a magic should possibly belong in Divine Magic. You would then have a reason for men to use Sacred Prostitutes as they would have this protection,...

Re: Love the Legend Covers

I don't play this game, though it has caught my curiosity. Looking around the Mongoose site, I see the Legend items published so far. And, I've got to say, I love the plain covers with just the title of them. Classy. Good looking stuff. You should have been here for the long "fight" the forum had w...

Re: Common Magic Spell

There's also multimissile - you could flavour that by saying the stone is sheathed in energy. It doesn't increase chance to hit but the magical ammunition will affect targets that can only be hurt by magic. Just ensure the Druidic order teaches a Combat Style that includes sling and/or thrown rock a...

Re: Common Magic Spell

I don't have my rules to hand, but isn't there a Common Magic spell called Speedart? I believe it enhances accuracy and damage of missile weapons, which surely includes sling and thrown rock?

It was always there in previous editions.

Re: Invisibility Spell

Well it's been interesting. Sounds like you know what you want in your setting. You may find RQ6 worth looking at, as it has a whole chapter on the concepts behind the magic systems and adjusting various features to achieve different genre tones with the magic systems. For instance casting time, rec...

Re: Invisibility Spell

Legend doesn't have to be all Boris Vallejo pastiches with prog rock by Yes and Genesis blasting over the speakers. Magic in these games has evolved a long way past the D&D idea of "clerics heal, magic users are spelltillery, To be fair, Magic in these games had evolved a long way past the D&D idea...

Re: New Sorcery Spells - "Phantasm" and "Projection"

Like I said, the Invisibility thing is up to you and your GM. I personally view Phantom (sense) as creating a perceptual image. When nothing is between the observer and a wall, the perceptual image is of the wall being x feet away with empty space in between. When an illusion of a cat is created, fo...

Re: New Sorcery Spells - "Phantasm" and "Projection"

We are clearly reading Phantom (sense) very differently, and from your reading I can certainly see why you have designed Phantasm. But when I read the spell description I see sections like this: "creating an illusion of a cow over a griffon", "This illusion creates or hides any single taste, " If us...

Re: New Sorcery Spells - "Phantasm" and "Projection"

One question re Phantasm: where did you get the idea Phantom (sense) cannot mask a current sensory image? The spell description blatantly says it can be done, with an example in the subsection on Phantom (sight). Putting multiple senses into one base spell seems to be unnessicery and something of a ...

Re: Pondering including some sort of "less-than-Heroic" abil

That's actually... a pretty good idea. I just wanted "spell-like abilities" instead of actual spells - but I guess I could just make "those spells" less flashy in practice. I'll have to work on that. I have to admit, I cannot claim any originality in this suggestion. It is how RuneQuest, which Lege...
