Found the magic chapter seem to present more questions than it answered. The runic association feels a bit cosmetic. A bit more on the nature of the runes and what they express in generic terms would have been cool. Can a character integrate dimetrically opposed runes; i.e. both the Death and the F...

Goodbye SteveMND,

I'll miss your posts - you are wise beyond your years. Actually, I have no idea how old you are, but you're wise beyond the axe-wielding maniac in the picture that represents you.... I hope.

Maybe see you at a Chaosium D100 forum someday soon. If there ever is one.

I'm not a fan of Middle Earth personally. It bugs me a little when they make a big deal about Tolkien, especially as he wasn't the first published Fantasy novelist. The Hobbit was first published in 1937, whereas the first 13 Conan tales were printed between 1932 and 1934 and if you think about it ...

Once again the system I have suggested is forgotten, although I have yet to hear a single problem with it. Simply put. The 377 player rolls a D100 four times. The first three are added together, the last is added only if it is below 77. The player does the same except the last has to be under 33. S...

I had forgot about that thread, Cobra. Do you remember what is was called? I'm curious now to see how my initial expectations I posted there followed through as well. It was the 'Changes to BRP' thread. http://www.mongoosepublishing.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=18509 The lists started appearing aroun...

Yeah, but many other RPGs have the things in the "ten List", but are not RQ becuase they handle those ten thingsa differently. Usagi Yojimbo, for example has everything except 1, 3 & 10. It does have rules for size and reach through so it might get half credit for 3, and it is based in fedual Japan...

Umm. . . we haven't deleted anything. . . Sigh... Whether or not it was you, someone did. To prevent this from devolving into "he said...she said" I'll stop now. Thanks for replying to me. I appreciate that. I have noticed that if I take too long to write a post, the system logs me out for perceive...

Re: Is the game or the name problematic?

My question is this: how much of it is because MRQ is different from past versions of RQ but uses the "RuneQuest" name? Aside of the halving mechanic, how many of you that don't like MRQ would have liked it as a game with a different name? One that wasn't tied in to the RuneQuest legacy? I'm just w...

Re: Runic magic in various settings

In another thread, Andakitty commented: From a slightly different perspective, is there any intent of how the Rune magic is supposed to work in a more vanilla fantasy setting? MRQ has been advertised as fully able to support any sort of fantasy setting, so how do you use runes in a setting without ...

THat's a safe call. It is really the only step in BRP. It will be interesting to see how DBRP and MRQ affect each other. It could be mutually benficial, or you could see the RQ community split up into camps with one side refusing to buy products from the other. Probably a bit of both. Is it really ...

Re: Books for a basic Glorantha game

And yes, Storm Bull has been changed to Storm Mongoose as a form of corporate branding. I'm not sure if that is "Gregging" or "Matting". The cult is now dedicated to the eradication of snakes instead of chaos. Don't even get me started on the Rikki Tikki Tavi subcult.... This, ahhh, give me the cre...

Re: Books for a basic Glorantha game

[rant=] Does anyone lese here feel that if you pay for a printed copy of a book you should be entitled to the PDF at no additional cost?[/rant] No!!!? Are you suggesting that each poorly paid artist and writer (those jobs are hard enough slogs even when not limited to the RPG market!) should give u...

I think the editorial error in the combat matrix isnt so bad......you could read it like this: there is no sensible reason to defend against an unsuccesful attack.....BUT.......if you WERE stupid enough to throw yourself in front of a moving weapon in order to parry it then the table shows the resu...

Here is something else to consider. Since core MRQ is going to be used in different settings, I wonder what races they have in the core rules? Do they have more traditional Elves, Dwarves, Trolls etc. in the core rules with the alien Aldryami and Uz Trolls only being presented in the Gloranthan mat...

So... does this mean that during combat, the player and GM each state what their attack/parry roll is, then compare the results on a resistance table and roll accordingly, then check the results chart. Shriek! Egads, no. The Parry chart is actually a non-chart once you've used the system a couple t...

I don't like when things I liked from the past are changed into something that I do not like. Nobody likes when something they like is changed into something they don't like. That's the definition of not liking something! I am not saying that Elves need to be the cookie-cutter elves of Middle-Earth...
