I did something similar in a D&D game a while back. The point was to let the players meet NPCs in town, visit the shops, and learn a little about the history of the city. I planned unique conversations with prominent NPCs, so that the players wouldn't refer to them as "The blacksmith" etc. Instead, ...

This is something that I've been studying for the last few months just in my spare time. I've been looking through a book I bought listing a wide variety of archeological finds, placed in a timeline fashion. I also read the Epic of Gilgamesh, which also gives sort of a peek into the ancient man's me...

Not having read it, I would assume that his reasoning is that we already know about cultures and history that existed prior to 10,000 B.C. To effectively put a time on Conan's era, you would need to take a period of pre-history where the fiction can fit.

"Torn Asunder - Critcial Hits" is a nice sourcebook for dealing with this. Basically, you only deal with hit location if you score a critical, or place a called shot. And the sourcebook has you make about 2 extra rolls to find out where it hits, and what effect it has, besides damage. It's a decent ...

Now that I think of it, I think that may have been a hindrance to my group, as well. My group has had a tendency in the past to be very gung-ho for a month or two, and then everyone starts drifting away from the game. That may actually be the reason (I've been trying to figure that out for the longe...

This definitely makes sense to me, and I think my group is going to do the same. The only problem I can see is that perhaps the players might not feel as motivated. I'm usually GM, so I don't have a lot of experience as a player, but I would assume that a lot of players do enjoy watching their chara...

That show started off goofy, but it got consistently better over the years. It was actually very slick towards the end, I thought.

I've watched a few minutes while flipping through channels, and I'm under the impression that both of those shows were even more goofy than Hercules or Xena...

Although they might have a leg up on Cleopatra 2525... :)

Hi there In standard D&D, the HD keep rolling after 10th level, but in Conan the PCs only receive a fixed point or three per level up to 20th. Therefore, high level D&D characters can have a lot more hit points than Conan characters. BTW - picked up a copy of D&D monster book "Lords of Madness". Th...

D&D Monster Manual

I was thinking of taking a couple monsters from the MM to serve as "Monster of the Week" for my Conan game. I was browsing through the book, and looking at monsters that were a few CRs higher than my players, and just brainstorming. But I noticed that on quite a few of them, their damage potential w...

You'll need to join the Yahoo Group before downloading files. I keep the group closed for approval only, to screen out the email spammers. (Of which there have been many that tried :)

Maps

On a semi-related note... Just out of curiosity, what do you all DO with game maps? I use hex maps to show combat situations, for flanking purposes, etc. But as far as walking through town, or traveling from one country from another, I typically tell my players "You travel north to Vanaheim", or "Yo...

Campaign vs. One Shot Style Conflicts

I plan to start my players on a Conan "campaign" but I plan to do it with one-shots, much like Robert Howard's stories. But one of my players is a sorceror, and I've noticed, looking through the spells section, that a lot of sorcery involves scrying, and fortune-telling, and other non-combat items. ...
