Howard was riffing on the same idealistic "Noble Savage" myth that Burroughs was working with Tarzan and others. Any anthropologist can tell you that "primitive" tribal people are far more complex than this, and in fact one group might be "noble" in this, but not so "noble" in that, while an neighbo...

Lewis Henry Morgan: http://tinyurl.com/mezwa Near the end of the 19th century, Morgan said that human societies "progressed’ through 3 stages: savage, barbaric and civilized. 1. Savage - The lowest stage, substinence on wild plants, no soil tilling or animal domestication. 2. Barbaric - Starting to ...

I agree that the numbers are too big.

These days, our technology can support many more people per square mile than the technology in earlier days.

Europe today doesn't have a fraction of the wilderness that it did even a few centuries ago.

there's no real problem about that. all the hyborians langages have the same basis like italian and spanish, may be all the blacks languages too, etc... why don't use an INT check to understand same basis languages for example 10DC to say hello and 20DC for a philosophical discusion. That's quite a...

I would suggest reading the Del Rey volume of Bran tales by REH first.

In modern battle order, a sergeant usually leads a squad. 100 soldiers is equivalent to a modern company, which would be led by an officer, usually a captain.

If you are asking which REH story it is described in, then your answer would be none. I know not of pastiche which offers more detail.

I've been trying to get people interested in this for years. To be true to the REH tales, the adventures probably would be run a little differently from the LOTR-oriented groups.

Maybe Tamar was the Nemedian name for the city, which Aquilonians call Tarantia. Or the other way around.

It might have changed over time as Edo -> Tokyo

Tamar may be the name of citadel or castle in Tarantia - or the other way around.
