Re: 2300AD is Here!

It’s the way I process decisions now already, for the most part. If I really want the physical product, I buy into preorder on the Mongoose site. If I’m not sure, I just buy the PDF - usually from drivethrurpg. Of course this can make things a bit more expensive if I choose to buy the physical produ...

Re: 2300AD is Here!

I note that the PDF file on Drivethrurpg has just been updated. Does this mean that things have been added?

My downloads are on this site, as I bought the pre-order package. Is this file going to be updated soon also?

Re: 2300AD character sheet on website?

Design looks good. Nice colour style - it is interesting that you went for the advanced format version of the character sheet, with the extra rules from the Companion covered.

Re: High Guard Update - Comments Needed!

In the context of the possible inclusion of basic ship construction rules in the Traveller Core Update, I don’t think it would be out of context to make advanced space combat rules somewhere, and an updated High Guard could be it. Basic vector-based rules needn’t be any more complex than suggesting ...

Re: Question re Traveller Initiative

Plus appropriate Tactics or Leadership skill. That's an important adjustment. Certainly true of Tactics skill, which allows you to add (or subtract on a failed roll) to everybody’s Initiative score with the extra Effect of the roll. Leadership is a bit different in this current edition as it allows...

Re: High Guard Update - Comments Needed!

I’d love to include vectors as an advanced system in space movement. It elevates the game from bog-standard space opera into a game that actually celebrates real physical science - and I love that.

Re: Question re Traveller Initiative

Yes, it does, although the mechanic is kept consistent with the standard skill check by basing it on the effect. This just means that the range is different. If you roll 2D6 and modify it (up to + or -3) , you get a range of -1 to 15. If you base it on an Effect with a target number of 8, you get a ...

Re: Non-Occupation-Based Careers?

A lot are covered in as much as you have the Truther and Believer careers in the Companion book now. So: Protester - Truther/Believer. Volunteer - Believer. Exercise Fanatic - Believer (or maybe and Entertainer - Performer, if switching professional). Miniatures Painter - Entertainer - Artist, as is...

Re: Official 2300AD Comments Thread

Just further to the brief discussion above: could it be made a little clearer in character generation just what the application of the hard and soft paths are? I think I get the gist of it - as stated above - but the application of soft path especially could be clarified better. For example, does a ...

Re: Official 2300AD Comments Thread

We're playing with the 2300AD rules now. Other than the information on the Paths being nebulous (do they offer any sort of mechanical benefit, etc), it plays out nicely for Frontier characters. Also, on characters from Beowulf, there isn't any information about the world of Beowulf outside the tabl...

Re: Official 2300AD Comments Thread

I still find it sad that in these days of political correctness and people looking for reasons to be offended even when none is intended that we have to discard a perfectly good bit of historical terminology that has nothing whatever to do with race because someone MIGHT get offended. It's like not...

Re: Official 2300AD Comments Thread

I talked to Colin about this when I was still on FB. The name was changed because 'kafer' and 'kaffir' had nearly the same pronunciation and the latter had a very bad colonial racist connotation. Not quite as bad as the US 'nigger', about the same level as 'darky' or 'field hand'. And the term was ...

Re: Official 2300AD Comments Thread

Why not ‘Keefer’?

The German pronunciation isn’t quite the same but it isn’t far off. One could assume that the word may have been adopted and mildly altered from its original.

Re: Traveller Release Schedule/New Books

Well, it’s important to get it right. For my purposes, it will be a key release for the 2300AD game as much as the Third Imperium setting. My options to players next year is either doing a Deepnight Revelation as a command crew, or doing a 2300AD campaign. It is a key part of the 2300AD pitch that s...

Re: Official 2300AD Comments Thread

Could I make a sideways suggestion that you expand the upcoming Traveller: Explorer’s Edition with a couple more Character options (Navy and Marine to go with Scout and Scholar?) and then suggest it as a package deal with the 2300AD Box Set? I know it won’t cover the same level of detail as the Trav...

Re: What is the point of non Cloth armor?

Cloth Armour is generally the best armour for general use, or beginning characters, especially if you can get the High Tech variant which allows you to wear it along with other armour types, like Flak jackets etc. I see it more as an underlying armour in that respect. That said, Battle Armour is wha...
