Re: The Traveller Companion - Finalised!

All this looks awesome, and I especially like the spiritual careers. Could add a new dimension to the game.

Still wanting Robot characters, but there is still a huge amount to digest with this.

Also, are we getting any closer to getting some details about 2300AD?

Re: So, what's with the supplements?

I will look into the PDF prices, but it may be a while before we can do anything there. However, while we are on the subject of 1e books... If we could bring back any 1e book in 2e format right now, which would you like to see? No promises, but if the stars align, I will see what we can do! Well, y...

Re: So, what's with the supplements?

Firstly, and this really does need emphasising, you don't need anything other than the core rules, or the Starter Set, to play Traveller. They are complete, in an off themselves, insofar that you can generate characters, worlds and encounters, and has enough equipment, ships and vehicles to play a f...

Re: Creating "new" characters

We have players generating multiple characters, usually as part of a wider crew on a larger ship (if appropriate) or as contacts. If anyone dies, we simply have them adopt another character.

Re: Wound penalties?

Yes they should do, although we have frequently found that if planned correctly, an ambush tactic with firearms normally wipes out unsuspecting characters quicker than they get a chance to work out adjusting modifiers. It's only where battle armour and defensive strategies are used that combat gets ...

Aslan, Samurai and other allegories

While struggling to pronounce half the Aslan words in my ongoing Pirates of Drinax campaign, it was pointed out by one of my players that it's easiest to do so my imagining you are doing the dialogue in a Japanese Samurai movie. It actually works very well….which got us all looking at the relative p...

Did the Traveller Companion get bumped from the release schedule again? Didn’t see it when I checked just now.
It's not been listed for a while. Probably because the writers don't want to commit to a release timeline, and therefore rush it, rather than anything else. It'll come out in due course.

For the most part, we just use SOC like CHA, and be damned with any official interpretation.

Re: Anyonw know of 1

Not the most exemplary use of grammar in that first post. I have, nevertheless, had the experience of inviting a new player into our established Traveller group who turned up with a load of Classic Traveller books and materials, and proceeded to roll up his own character and essentially run his own ...

Re: Tell me what you want.

One thing that would be good to see in official print would be a set of guidelines for "troupe style" adventuring. That is probably the best way to make larger ships like the Leviathan or Azhanti High Lightning manageable settings for adventurers. Troupe style is also great for mercenary adventures...

Re: The Traveller Companion - It Exists!

Another point about sophont books is that earlier editions have covered the topic pretty well, so that there's less urgency to do a Mongoose edition than there would be for something new. Sure, for Vargr & Aslan and a few minor races, but I eagerly await MongTrav info on Hivers and Droyne. That's t...

Re: 2300AD - Any News?

I think there are circumstances in the world today that could, conceivably, lead to a cataclysmic nuclear war of some sort - or even just a series of other events that could lead to a 'Twilight' as we know it. It's difficult to discuss it as a topic, however, without becoming explicit about politica...

Re: Why no career books?

I think having career based books is not as much a problem as it is for making a book for the purpose of fulfilling a series line rather than the actual utility or need in the game itself. For me, the more pressing 'gaps' in the Traveller line are to do with having playable Alien and Robot books, ra...

Re: Traveller Companion

The Traveller Companion seems to have an air of mystery about it still. I'm assuming it's sort of the same as the Xanathar's Guide to Everything for D&D, but could anybody spare the time to give a list of things that are likely to be in the contents?

2300AD - Any News?

I'm actualy really looking forward to this, but we have heard very little about it recently. My understanding is that it will be a a physically attractive, uplifted design in its presentation. Do we know if it will require the Traveller book still, or be standalone? Will there be new material or wil...

Re: How do you generate child characters?

Thanks for the thoughts. Most of them were useful. I'm thinking that the child will get a few bonus skills as part of a skills package, which may give them a bit of utility as the have limted access to education or career. It would also justify why the child managed to man a turret in the last sessi...
