Yeah, that sounds like a good way to try out the game. I think I'll dig out my books this weekend and see if anything grabs me.

Compatibility with CT stuff

How compatible is MGT with CT? I've got most of the CT reprints from FFE...is it possible to just use stuff from them with little or no modification, such as adventures, subsectors, world data, etc.?

The Science Fiction Book Club offers a pair of omnibus editions in hardback for about 15 bucks each.

Well, I'm not looking to do tons of extra work since I'm just looking to play and have fun. It sounds like I can get by with minimal conversion, but I'll probably play around a bit and see how much I'm really inclined to mess with. If I use the Moon Design stuff for a campaign, I would just be keepi...

I'm not particularly concerned if all the numbers match up between editions, just as long as things feel right in play. I was hoping I could make use of RQ2 stuff without having to do lots of conversion beforehand. It sounds like there are a couple of key things that should be done, like SR, and may...

Gloranthan Classics

Recently I got the Griffin Mountain reprint from Moon Designs, and I'm thinking about picking up their other Gloranthan Classics volumes. Griffin Mountain has stats for monsters and NPCs and stuff, and I'm wondering how compatible RQ2 stats are with MRQ. I hear that MRQ characters typically start wi...

Hey, cool. If I get an MRQ game going, I'm going to try this armor table instead of the one in the book.

Thanks!

On a related note, why would someone buy chainmail trews instead of a chainmail skirt? The trews have 1 more ENC and cost 200 sp more than the skirt, but are otherwise identical. I'm digging the rulebook so far and looking forward to future products, but I have to wonder if the armor table has errors.

I've taken them to simply mean that these are places where changes to match the variations are most likely to occur first. That's not to say that you shouldn't make a Black Corsair with a higer than +3 Survival or a Pict with more than Tumble +8. It just seems to me that when changes are made due t...

I have no idea what they're supposed to mean. I'm sure if I ignore the mysterious asterisks, I won't cause the collapse of our space-time continuum. Can you afford to take the chance that it might though? You might doom us all! 8) It's possible I've already ignored them, collapsed our space-time co...

Well for example, the "Picts on the Warpath" NPC description on page 298 of the core rulebook: The hunting bow stats listed in both Attack and Full Attack have their AP rating marked with single asterisks. At first I thought it might have something to do with the weapon table, but the hunting bow li...

Yes, I have a few of them myself, but it's still very tempting. If it had a Buy It Now option, I'd probably be all over it...but it's in my Watch list and I may end up bidding anyway if it looks like they might go for a decent price.

Sorry you're having to give them up :(

Those sound great. I wonder if the Science Fiction Book Club will carry those in a hardback version like the two Kane collections they carry, also from Nightshade, I believe.

Most wonderful, thank you.

That only leaves the mystery of why some skills and AP ratings in NPC stat blocks in published materials have asterisks... :?

A couple rules questions

I've been going over the rulebook lately and thinking about starting up a game. A couple questions... Sometimes in stat blocks for NPCs in both the main rulebook, and Road of Kings, sometimes there's an asterisk next to certain skill bonuses, and sometimes in other places such as the character's AP ...
