A probable reason for the fireblade damage-it does not do excessive damage, but all the damage it does is magical damage. This still makes it a good spell.

Five seconds to load a crossbow might be possible, but tight. I feel the five second round is far too short for the amount of actions likely to take place in it. Most pc's are going to be in the 3 actions (3-4 reactions) group. Thrust, shield parry, slash, shield parry, cast befuddle (make persisten...

The RQII system, I believe :o .

(For combat skills above 100% subtract the amount over 100% from opponents parry and defense skills.)

Are you comparing to RQII or III? RQII did not have separate tables for missiles and melee and having a single book to reference (in my opinion a well layed out book, at that) is easier. Skill category modifiers were more involved, but made sense-giving bonuses/penalties for high/low skills that imp...

I still find the costs to be relatively low. The heal 2 and heal 6 above costs substantially less than a single platemail breastplate, or 10 leather hauberks. The purchase of a leather hauberk can't be anticipated to be a major expense for a character in an FRP setting, making the spell cost low as ...

Spell costs are actually much cheaper in MRQ. To know heal 2 and heal 6 in MRQ will cost 200+3200=3400 silver. In RQII the cost will be 500+1000+1500+2000+2500+3000=10,500 guilders to know heal 6. And MRQ silver is less valuable. In RQII a hard leather shirt (hauberk) costs 40 guilders and a broad s...

Pushing these dates back is unfortunate, in that the game will be difficult to play without them. (I am an old timer-the idea of playing without the cults and divine (Rune) magic is anethma.) There is much good with the new system but without access to these books, for me, it is unplayable. I hope m...

Where is the simplicity I hear people praising? RQII resolved spells with targets simply-a single pow vs pow roll on the resistance table. MRQ:roll to cast the spell, opponent roll resilience or persistence to resist. Using skills rather than characteristics for tests? Why should athletics rather th...

Power gain rolls are the big dilemna in my opinion. (I always think of RQ in Glorantha terms, so link it with a magic rich environment.) Mongoose has added a layer of power expenditure (integrating runes) and cut down on the opportunity to increase power. The suggestion that using one of your 2-4 in...

Without doubt the trade of a Pow for +1 St, Con and Siz is a worthwhile one. And, as the game goes on, few would pass on it. But, as a previous experience choice, I feel that the PC selecting runecasting would have, in lieu of the skills he is not getting, have recovered that power. The rules would ...

I agree that a PC's cult should help them acquire the runes appropriate to the cult-perhaps as part of the initiation rituals. At least one rune will have to be gained (the rituals/tests should be part of the game, not previous experience except for those who have runecasting skills) for the supplic...

I agree that the rules imply that power should be lost, but I feel that it should not be. Runecasters do get fewer skills than others, so should not be further penalized for their choice. The game makes power gain more difficult than earlier versions, so power loss is a major penalty. The starting s...

Scarcity of magic

A major change, to my mind, is the dropping of power gain rolls as a fairly common occurence. With a power sacrifice being needed rather frequently-integrating runes, gaining divine spells-giving up one of your few improvement attempts almost every opportunity will result in fewer attempts to improv...

I would certainly hope that they would have as positive an effect as possible. They are an outstanding idea, to make the runes in runequest important, but the cost is high. PC's will be much more limited in their access to battle magic (now rune magic). Formerly, most cults could teach, and most cha...

Indeed, the Python's argument is what the NPC apologists for the Lunars use in my games! The Lunar Empire can bring much good, (see Steve's post), but at what cost? There is no minor taint of chaos!

Please pass on the idea of placing a half naked tart on the cover as an attempt to sell a module/setting. I don't believe that will help sell any additional copies and is more likely to raise questions about the quality of the content. Cover art should relate to the theme of the work. I certainly re...

For examples of what I'd like to see in modules/adventures look to the classic Chaosium sets-Borderlands, Pavis, Trollpak. These gave interesting settings, in detail, provided vibrant characters, included insights into new races and cultures and provided short, core adventures that added to the flav...

Just a quick response to a couple of your points. Beffuddle doesn't prevent you from defending yourself. You will not likely have your throat cut, rather you would warily watch either friend or foe approaching, uncertain which was which. It does take you out of the fight, though. (Clever ruses may b...

Another point of interest regarding magic, for me, is that it seems that spell casting will involve a skill roll for succesful casting, as in RQIII. Our shaman (in the character sheet example) has a 38% runecasting skill, for the spirit rune. I assume he will have a 38% chance of casting spells asso...
