Re: Far Trader Page Layout - Comments Welcomed!

I would like to see mortgage costs added to the costs section. Also, while I understand @AnotherDilbert's argument on the deck plans, I find the original presentation more visually pleasing. The space on the page is more equally used in the way presented first. However, if one were to add some more ...

Re: Why are Low Passages so deadly?

Emergency preservation is nice an shiny, but if you have 6 staterooms and 4 low-berths, that's still a waste of space on a tramp freighter just barely making money. Also, the passenger table yields results to high to support any of these arguments. I think, we should accept that low passages are an ...

Re: Why are Low Passages so deadly?

It is meant to be a drastic option, not a regular travelling option. I would agree with that, but then tramp freighters have no business having low passages in their regular options. If you take a last resort option, don't do it with a freighter that's bound to be anything less than in pristine con...

Re: Why are Low Passages so deadly?

The Imperium deals with worlds, not people. The Imperium keeps the trade flowing, it does not care if a few people dies in the process. Worlds and states within the Imperium can go to war with each other without the Imperium caring, as long as the trade keeps flowing. True, but there are standards ...

Re: Where's that Gunner Sit?

The naval campaign book implies that cross-training with other departments is fairly common, so presumably a lot of those gunners also have Admin, Engineering, Maintenance, Pilot, and Electronics (other than Sensors), etc. A warship can never have too much crew as spares for damage control. I figur...

Roll20 for me, since I already had a paid subscription from my Cthulhu campaign, when I started my Traveller group.

Re: Deepnight Revelation - GMs Thread

One displacement tonne (ton?) is defined in Traveller as either 13.5 or 14 m³. Depending on your ceiling height (z-axis) your width and length vary. I would argue for a true ceiling height of 3 metres with about 0.5 m used four cables, pipes etc. and a usable ceiling height in cabins of 2.5 m. But t...

Re: Travellers Needed - Core Rulebook Reprint

Debt: introduce some guidance on debt repayment. I would like to see some form of guidance here, too. Currently, I referee it like so that debt can be accumulated from various sources, but is kept separately. So a Traveller may own money to various third parties. Debt from ships owned usually would...

Re: Travellers Needed - Trade (check our numbers)

Hi everyone, How would you feel about passengers and freight changing to the following (with Basic going down to 2 people per stateroom)? Parsecs High Middle Basic Low Freight 1 9000 6500 2000 700 1000 2 14000 10000 3000 1300 1600 3 21000 14000 5000 2200 2600 4 34000 23000 8000 3900 4400 5 60000 40...

Re: Travellers Needed - Missiles (check our numbers)

That is an option for a slightly different weapon system introduced in the Traveller Companion. I have that book and I don't know which weapon you are referring to. Could you tell me? Pretty-please? *bats eyes* My pleasure. That would be the "Container-Launchers" from p. 161 in the Traveller Compan...

Re: Imperial view of Cybernetics

Arguably, in small ways. About 3,000 people in Sweden have inserted a microchip — which is as tiny as a grain of rice — under their skin over the past three years, Agence France-Presse reported. The technology was first used in the country in 2015. The implants have already helped replace the need ...

Re: Imperial view of Cybernetics

Maybe regeneration is cheaper, social pressure, and mandatory registration. Local laws might be a difficult topic here, yes. Also, medical aid is problematic for users of cyberware, at least, if you augment yourself with stuff that's above the TL of the world you get shot to pieces. And of course e...

Re: Shipyard Maintenance

Yes, the ship would have to have a workshop, and yes, the raw materials, but these raw materials would be easily available at any star port. Plus, they would be cheaper and easier to find than the correct finished parts. Certainly. Of course your makertech corporations would try to make you buy onl...

Re: Travellers Needed - Missiles (check our numbers)

Salvo size should make a difference. Even if all missiles are semi-active (i.e. launching ship actively scanning) and not under thrust, the odds of the salvo being detected should increase the larger the salvo. Based on this I would make the sensor check be either Routine (6+) or Easy (4+) modified...

Re: Travellers Needed - Missiles (check our numbers)

I definitely like the direction this is going, but I would reduce the difficulties by one step each, and that's for three reasons: First of all, this system should be open for more detailed variations, either from house-rules or future publications, e. g. adding DM for the distance the missiles are ...

Re: Travellers Needed - Core Rulebook Reprint

Ah, the classic diagram! This was my entry into the worlds of scifi RPG. Would be nice to see that back in a book. Though I have a feeling that mathematical signs beyond those for addition, subtraction and multiplication are bad for sales.

Re: Shipyard Maintenance

Well that was sort of the point of my question. A Traveller group will have a TL 12 ship, with all the tech goodies that go along with it. If a TL 12 3d printer can make anything useful, why are planets a lower TL? Just take a colony maker along to a new planet and harvest raw materials and fab up ...

Re: Shipyard Maintenance

Separately, I still strongly believe that 3D printing is the answer to most ship maintenance questions. I think by TL 12, you'll be able to print just about anything, including nano-scale electronics. No need to carry spare parts - print them on demand (and recycle the old ones). That might be a fe...
