Re: Question on Life Detection (Psionics)
Just to reboot this thread, I just had Life Detection totally wreck a scenario where the PCs were crawling through a deep-atmosphere gas mining rig in a sub-Jovian planet (the old Sky Rig from White Dwarf). A player just pings this thing off, a skill with a puny cost and a 5km range, and suddenly ev...

Integrating Mongoose 1st ed Firearms/Armour with Mongoose 2nd ed games
I'm coming back after a long hiatus and dusting off my salvaging campaign. I remember last time I was underwhelmed by the 2nd ed firearms/armour and I'm thinking of using the more comprehensive 1st ed ones. Has anyone done this? Did they come up against any problems?

Re: 1st Edtion books on DriveThru
I actually bought them all before finding out there was a 2nd edition.
I'm a bit miffed over that. Poor form DriveThru.

Weapon Categories and Starship Weapons
This is driving me nuts. I know I've seen this somewhere. If you agree with it or not I've seen that pulse lasers are considered 'category four' weapons in Mongoose 2 rules. I'm absolutely sure I've seen particle weapons referred to them as such but I can't find the reference. I've had no luck using...

Re: Melee Rules for 'Fighting Dirty'
Disarms are all done through either leverage or a sudden blow, nearly always leverage because if you can simply knock a weapon out of the enemy's hand they're not much of an enemy.
This means you have to get close; into grappling range.

Re: Alternate Lab Ships?
Here's my take on a repurposed Type R for research. Maybe it could be called a Type R-L It has had the launch deleted and a fuel tank faired-in fuel tank replace it. There's another fuel tank closing in the rear cargo, all up giving the vessel two jump-1s. The rear cargo bay and half of the middle c...

Re: Large Scout Ships?
There's one repurposed Leviathan Class 1800 dtonner in 1105 on the Spinward Marches. http://wiki.travellerrpg.com/Leviathan It's my assumption that the Navy works inside the Imperium and the scouts work outside in terms of focus. Unlike now where massive fleets cruise 'international waters' the flee...

Re: MgT2 Ship Design Speadsheet Walk-through
May I post a suggestion?: I design some ships for players on the basis that not all the features are fitted at sale, and thus the price is different. If you wish to implement this I suggest you have a 'Retrofit?' button on item. The button only charges 5% of the item's price but allots its tonnage. ...

Re: What would the likely troubles have been?
When a PC comes into possession of a starship it is registered at the ship's home port (Flag Country in real world terms). They also get a set of papers signed and ratified by the seller. If we continue to extrapolate of how ships transfer ownership it means the noble is up against the Imperial Bure...

Re: Ship inspection time for the Broadsword, or why you're late to the party.
I think it might be a good idea for GMs to decide whether the Imperial Navy polices all systems. I would think that this would not be an even rule and that many powerful systems maintain control of their in-system space, or even have a power-sharing agreement.

Re: Would their be reprecussions?
As noted above we need to know the culture, government and policing set up. In Australia now the policeman would be reprimanded for not informing the police service that there was a crime in process. The policeman had no idea if it was a simple break and enter or a murder attempt. The policeman woul...

Re: Alternate Lab Ships?
You'd generally convert a freighter or liner, or carry porta-cabins, or buy the standard model. Purpose built lab ship implies big budget or highly specialised equipment is needed. I think such a ship would likely be custom built or fitted out for 1 specific type of research. Real-world Oceanograph...

Re: First and Second Edition
You're underestimating the compatibility of 1e and 2e. You can use the original career books with 2e with very little problem, and deal with any skill discrepancies on the fly. What do you mean by "unviable characters"? I just had a 'fun' experience Chargenning a Mongoose v1 PC, I was doing it for ...

Re: First and Second Edition
Just found it on the Mongoose site; the place I should have gone to first.
Odd that version two never had those career books, but with the propensity for version one to make unviable characters I guess they didn't want to go there again.

First and Second Edition
I'm trying to see if there's career expansion books for Traveller v2. However I can't tell on DriveThru which edition is which. I got fooled the first time I went there and bout the first edition stuff when I wanted second edition, DriveThru doesn't differentiate between the two. is there anywhere t...

Re: So many ATVs in high tech places, when they're just bad air/rafts?
Anything that's part of the spaceship manifesto, only requires forty years to pay it off. Plus interest. Not accounting for the Wand of Wonder, the Locker of Ships. This I had to put a stop to this right away. The players ran out of money for the tramp freighter and started to sell of stuff like ex...
