Re: Ship inspection time for the Broadsword, or why you're late to the party.

You missed the part about it being outside the Imperium. Imperial rules do not apply. If the local gov’t claims the whole system as their sovereign territory, you’d better have overwhelming firepower relative to local forces if you want to claim otherwise. And if you want to buy their fuel, its thei...

Re: Pirates of Drinax - GMs thread

Glad to see more folks taking up the challenge. After about three months off, we’ve made a little progress on our Pirates Campaign this week. Look forward to hearing about your adventures!

Re: Chargen Questions

There’s nothing in the unofficial errata otherwise, so I would take it as written. If you’re commissioned straight out of the academy (this really should be automatic if you graduate IMO), you are never a rank 0 Private or Marine, so you don’t get the rank 0 skill. You’ve already got Gun Combat from...

Re: First and Second Edition

There was a thread last year about the career books, and Matt was pretty clear that there were no plans for 2nd edition career books. He believed the core book careers were sufficient, and wanted to focus on fewer, higher quality supplements rather than cranking out rehashes on a tight schedule. He ...

Re: Are we playing two different games?

I agree that there's no need for skill rolls in routine situations, and I don't know anyone that plays the game differently. We don't to an astrogation or engineer check for a routine jump, for example. Same for a pilot check when landing. They just bog the game down. I assume that it's standard pro...

Re: [Moon Toad Publishing]Vehicle Design Guide

Question for those who have purchased: does this closely adhere to the MgT1 rules, or is it a whole new system? Do you consider it to be a superior system to MgT1 or 2?

Re: Modern ATV designs

It's like playing D&D with someone who makes a character that won't go down into dungeons or fight monsters. That's rational enough for an NPC, but when you've gathered to play a game about monster slayers and dungeon divers it's not on point. LOL. I like enlisted military characters these days, al...

Lol. A planet has to be pretty hard up for resources if they have to import sand. But that’s a whole different meaningless debate.

1. Apparently, it can take down a grizzly at short range. 2. Also, I estimate the cost at a credite imperiale per hundred rounds. 3. At technological level ten, I estimate two hundred fifty percent range, and possibly twenty five hundred feet per second muzzle velocity, if you replace the propellan...

Re: External cargo mounts?

Cargo carried externally isn’t going to last very long in combat if I’m the referee. It’s also not going to provide any meaningful protection. (“But but but. . .those “common industrial parts” we’re carrying externally are really bonded superdense plates! So we’re going to keep that side of the ship...

Re: What remains powered on a ship after a powerplant failure?

I would expect a high level of redundancy and emergency preparedness to be the norm. We’re talking about spaceships here. As pointed out previously, modern ship crews are well trained in restoring and rerouting power from available sources under emergency conditions. Why would we expect less of a mo...

Advanced Survival Rifle 1. Semi automatic survival round rifle 2. Twenty two long rifle with electrothermal compound 3. Twelve gauge shotgun module attached below barrel .22 long rifle? The picture certainly looks like an AR, the vast majority of which come with .223. I certainly wouldn’t want my l...

Maybe I missed it, but is there any value to this for actual game play? What does a robust system for registration numbers for for the referee or the player?

Re: No Navy Medics?

I don't understand making a player randomly roll for what skill they gain. If a player is lucky enough to gain a skill during character creation, they should be able to pick the career skill they want so they have a better chance at getting a character they want to play. If the skill they want is n...

Re: Pirates of Drinax - GMs thread

As for the question on scale of the campaign, I think that’s the toughest part. Just how much do you want to keep track of? We ditched keeping precise track of fuel and life support expenses very early, just using the logic that enough incidental cargo is hauled to cover these expenses. With my play...

Re: So many ATVs in high tech places, when they're just bad air/rafts?

The price differential explains why ground vehicles would be common transport even in high tech worlds, but it doesn’t explain why you would want a ground vehicle over a grav vehicle when exploring the wild frontier. The cost differential is minor when considered as part of the cost of the ship that...
