Re: Completely new to Traveller - Which simple adventure to start with and advices

There are a couple referee’s screens out there, and of course character sheets. Nothing else compact that I’m aware of.

Re: Completely new to Traveller - Which simple adventure to start with and advices

Welcome! Quick advice: - Practice combat, both personal and ship based, before playing an actual adventure or starting a campaign. Try a dry run, then re-read that chapter of the rules to see what you missed. - discuss expectations with players before starting. Traveller is very open ended, and a mi...

You can use your own dice at a wargaming tournament? That’s like using your own cards at a casino.

Re: Spaceship vs. Starship

Meh, despite their best efforts, I don’t think Travellers in my campaign will be operating a dreadnaught anytime soon. All these capital ships are so much background noise in a campaign.

Let the proofreading commence!

Seriously, this is re-stoking my passion for Traveller. I really do need to get some work done between now and year end, and this will make it that much harder.

So why is your immortal character interested in risking their life? One bad space battle and their immortality ends in a ball of plasma.

Re: Military Academy and EDU

Matt in the past is only so interested in clearing up every little rule issue. If we tied him down and forced him to respond, my guess is that he would tell you to decide for yourself. My guess as to the actual intent is that the “Additional” carried over from the University section in error and tha...

Re: Spaceship vs. Starship

Multiple small spinals might be able to one-shot a destroyer, if it could hit it, but hardly a cruiser. E.g. a Plankwell could just about one-shot Ghalalk-class cruiser (since it lacks defences). There is no way it could carry several spinals each capable of the same. A Plankwell, no. A Tigress, mo...

Though your query actually asked if it was cool to murder all the PC's -between- sessions...no. Never.
I agree that we shouldn’t kill the player characters off screen, but lets definitely not kill the players. Hard enough to get a Traveller game going as it is.

Re: Spaceship vs. Starship

Hopefully we’re all roleplayers here, participating on an RPG forum. I beleive the rule system specifically ststes combat repairs are temporary, no need to assume. Two spinal mounts (or more) would be more effective than one large weapon in taking on multiple smaller opponents, i.e. a dreadnaught vs...

I'm not a fan of merciless cold blooded murder of PCs if there are other options. I find it's generally a turn off for most players.
What about merciless, cold blooded murder of their NPC friends? Considering this for my current campaign.

the difference between Scandinavian traders and a Viking raiding party is how well armed and prepared the locals are.

Re: MgT2 skill-level philosophy ???

I agree with all the advice given. Under routine circumstances, with no time or other pressure, skill checks aren’t needed. You simply take your time and do it right, or do it over.

When you do need skill checks, the system rewards good choices involving teamwork and a careful approach.

Re: Is it a good enough fleet for Darokyun too weak?

That's what the Sindalian transponder codes are for, and the fees that go with it. Once a ship is transmitting the code that they paid the transport tax, they do not get attacked. It slowly turns the pirates into Customs agents. :) Man, now you've got my Pirates rolling for Admin skill checks. Not ...

Re: Is it a good enough fleet for Darokyun too weak?

This force is too big to stay under the response threshold, and too small to survive the response that it will generate. That raises an interesting point about Drinax campaigns. The players are supposed to build a fleet, and the campaign envisions those fleets potentially getting pretty large befor...
