Re: Pirates of Drinax - GMs thread

A particle accelerator is a serious weapon on any mounting, especially if you follow the designs as written that smaller navy vessels don't have radiation shielding. I would make particle barbettes very difficult to acquire, even for a quasi government backed team like the Pirates of Drinax. Of cour...

Re: Pirates of Drinax - GMs thread

Lol. My players would probably turn up their nose at them. I can hear them now "Just give them to Wrax for his loser Navy".

Im just glad to read that someone is actually using those rules. I could never see how they really fit into a campaign.

Re: What's Traveller5 like?

If you want lots of tools to build various things for traveller, T5 might be for you. If you want to actually play traveller, vs. play with traveller, just stick with Mongoose. Mongoose is far from perfect, if such a thing even exists, but it is playable.

Re: MGT1 Trade question

If you have one rate for a private stateroom, and another rate for 4 people per stateroom, it certainly makes sense thst there would be something in between. Whatever that rate is isn't specified in the rules, so make it up yourself. If you’re allowing two people per room, but charging the middle pa...

That’s awesome, Jackstar. What I love about the Drinax campaign is that everyone’s goes off the rails, but in an entirely different way.

Re: Point Defence Battery Limitations

In that case, welcome back! You might be mixing point defense with distributed arrays in your memory. that's the only component with a minimum ship size that comes to mind.

Re: Who controls Hkakh?

Perhaps the Tokolfeahr are vassals of the Arhiyao who had a dispute with the Ahroay'if that did not involve the host Arhiyao. Yes, it's complicated, but maybe it works? As if humans could ever understand the intracacies of Aslan clan politics. Oh well, I keep hoping Matt admits defeat, and give us ...

Re: The Armed Packet

Deckplan quibbles aside, that's a cool little ship. Upgrade those sensors and I'd buy one.

In gameplay it would suffer in combat due to the small bridge and weak sensors. The sensors are a choice, the bridge is just the result of the rules being punitive to 300 ton craft.

Re: Hijackers - gotta love'm

One of the challenges I’ve faced with these types of scenarios is that the the players are always on alert, because there wouldn’t be an interesting game session if something wasn’t up. You can build in a bunch of very details customs inspections before the hijack attempt to try to get them complace...

Re: The Armed Packet

Great work. Love the concept and the old school art. The only “flaw” I see is the aforementioned crew and passenger movement due to stateroom placement, but that’s an easy fix. Everything in the stat sheet is a defensible choice. My execution would be a little different, largely along the lines of A...

Re: Third Imperium Supplements in MongTrav2e

Ship stats are the only thing that would have to be reworked. The individual system profiles for the Borderlands are pretty good. I refer to them for my Drinax campaign. The supplement thst covers the borderlands as a whole is not good.

Good luck with it. Running a traveller campaign is a big undertaking. Several of us are running Pirates of Drinax. Would love to hear from others running something in the Rift.

Only flown on the spinward main, never wilderness refueled. Interior needs a little TLC.

I’d be happy with a standard far trader, even if it one one of last year’s models on the lot at a slight discount.

Re: How long does it take to build a ship?

Would think that engineering would be off the shelf for yachts, customization more to do with aesthetics, accommodations and facilities. That’s true of smaller boats (but still big enough to be a yacht to the average person). But at 50m, no. People who spend that kind of miney are paying for the ca...
