Re: New Ship Design: Boarding Shuttle - suggestions wanted

Given the massive disconnect between fusion power plants on spacecraft in Highguard and vehicles in the Vehicle Handbook, perhaps a future version of Traveller can give us a unified design system. Honestly, the fractional fusion drive is probably more problematic than the fuel tank, but that's the w...

Re: New Ship Design: Boarding Shuttle - suggestions wanted

Technically, fuel tanks need to be a full ton (see Highguard page 17 under Power Plants - oddly, there is no such requirements for power plants or m-drives themselves) so that would limit the seating, but the turret should only eat 1 ton, so you get a little back ( a person - overall you would lose ...

Hey I got one too!
It's even got a bonus adventure.
Didn't get a chance to look through the PDF, so this will give me something to do while the kidney stone passes (This is what happens when you roll a 2 on your aging roll after 9 terms...)

Re: Security Systems, Crime Prevention, and Traveller

Connecting the two, after my sister told me she had her genes analyzed for ancestry, I quipped that I can now never commit a crime in America. Too many crime shows... DNA is time-insensitive evidence in many cases. You just need to have a plausible reason to have been at the scene at some other tim...

If like Amundsen's south pole expedition, most of the dogs got eaten, I'm not sure they'd take it as a complement.

Re: Skip Tracing IMTU, or 'Why banks aren't stupid'

Even if the tech used to trace is a snail-mailed book of VINs distributed by the Starport Authority, the result is the same for skipped ships and their crews: Hanging out in Freeports and other dens of inequities and performing questionable services or exchanging illicit goods in return for suspect ...

I miss the year-by-year detailed generation too, but in those days, you got one career and out. Hard to say which is better. I think they avoided adding back in character generation to avoid the rat-hole of having to do detailed generation for every career across a dozen supplements that happened in...

Re: The Zhodani, Psionics, and the Consulate Military

For my sins, I have learned to do spreadsheets and to import data from Travellermaps in diabolic ways. There are 29.31 billion people living on Zhodani in the Spinward Marches, 20 billion on Riverland (which will eventually be called Dietevriabr, but the system has been Zhodani since the early Front...

Re: Stealth and fusion plant exhaust

The question was just about the helium byproduct of fusion, a minor problem. The 'physics truth' that most Traveller ships would melt or at least have hulls as hot as stars under their own waste heat even if the fusion was 99% efficient is an entirely different issue. And one that I have no answer f...

Re: Stealth and fusion plant exhaust

Well, you could take the helium and push it back into the fuel tank. Rockets these days use helium as a pressurization gas to keep the propellants flowing, so it wouldn't be a new thing to stick helium in with liquid hydrogen. It would even mass a tiny bit less than the hydrogen it replaced - though...

Book 3: Just going to start off by saying, Vehicle Options would be better to have been put in front of the actual vehicles. Raises less questions and confusions that way. I wander a bit off point in the Starship Operations section, but the main points are: For Interface: Consider things like gettin...

Re: Official 2300AD Comments Thread

So, full disclosure: I have now written two forthcoming things for Mongoose: the Spinward Extents and the Robot Handbook. I’m working on a third – that Sector Construction Guide, but these last weeks I’ve been beset by so much real-life stuff that I don’t feel I’m doing an adequate job of creating. ...

Wow! Geir, you must be or should be a professional editor! Nice website too, btw. Thanks! The web site hasn't been touched much in 5 years. I should put that on my list to do as well. Maybe I can play editor once I can afford to retire from my current job. Or if I'm able to reallocate some more tim...

Book 2: This book… frustrates me. I understand that choices needed to be made, and that my dissatisfaction with them is personal, but parts are hard for me to process efficiently, especially the ‘Worlds of the Frontier’ chapter. That said, some things are in need of examination. The book seems not q...

Re: Deepnight Revelation - GMs Thread

As for design of the Revelation itself: On this type of mission, I get how important redundancy would be, but the design as written takes this to an extreme, and ignores the concept of how precious space onboard is. MJD's designs tend to give very little thought to cargo space in general, which I d...

Some general comments: 1. Thumbs up! I really like it. I’ve been a big fan of 2300AD since it first came out with Traveller in the name and this is a great update. 2. Some, maybe the majority of these are opinion and commentary, not errors. 3. Robots and Drones. See page 90 notes. Matthew, let’s hav...

Re: [Pirates of Drinax] Honor Among Thieves (spoilers)

According to The Torpol Cluster, the planet has one light cruiser, a lot of missile batteries installed at the highport, and a bunch of fighters. Both the cruiser and the fighters probably spend most of their time at or near the highport since that's where most merchant traffic would be found (and ...
