Re: Travellers Needed - Core Rulebook Reprint

And why argue the toss here? Well if Mongoose are going to charge us another £30 just for a pdf, I'm only buying it if it has rather more changes than just better art, layout and a sentence or two inserted here and there. That is to say it needs to be MGT 2.5 rather than just 2.1 if I am going to sp...

Re: Travellers Needed - Core Rulebook Reprint

Skills bloat is also an issue with far too many games which is why I wouldn't extend the number of skills without adopting one of the cascade skill-level fixes I suggested. Which would also solve the Surgeon who can't do anything but cut into people problem - of course a surgeon will be able to diag...

Re: Travellers Needed - Core Rulebook Reprint

And two possible changes to cascades in general. As rules currently stands Sniper Guy with Gun Combat (Slug)-4 will only skill-0 if his rifle breaks and he picks up a laser rifle but is at skill-4 with any slug pistol even though he rarely touches any weapon other than his beloved sniper rifle. As f...

Re: Travellers Needed - Core Rulebook Reprint

Or a simpler Medic cascade: EMT Physician Surgeon Nurse Consider the show Scrubs - in MGT 2.0 JD, Turk and Carla are all Medic-3 (and in season one Carla is probably Medic-3 while the new interns are still Medic-2) but they are really Physician-3, Surgeon-3 and Nurse-3. So in MGT2.1 some nameless EM...

Re: Travellers Needed - Core Rulebook Reprint

'Medic' is ridiculously general and should also be a cascade skill. For example: First Aid Diagnosis Surgery Pharmacology Nursing care Medtech Psychiatry This allows you to distinguish between the battlefield medic or emergency response specialist who can staunch your wound and stop you dying, the s...

Re: Travellers Needed - Core Rulebook Reprint

Something else that needs sorting is the Science skill which was IMO better handled in MGT1 These are my house rules: 'Science' is actually three cascade skills where the first skill level-0 applies to all skills in the cascade and then the second skill level-1 goes to a speciality with the other sk...

Re the supply of future grognards... Back in the before the before time I was something of a dilettante sovietologist and remember a story from the old USSR where the Orthodox church was not totally suppressed but identifying as a believer would get you expelled from the Communist Party and also ren...

Re: Travellers Needed - Core Rulebook Reprint

Traveller does account for Tech level improvements by making better stuff available at higher tech levels but in a wildly inconsistent fashion. So you want a better tougher hull? well at TL10 you get to add crystalliron armour , Tl 14 bonded superdense armour etc. However logically wouldn't ALL TL10...

Re: Travellers Needed - Core Rulebook Reprint

Good point about hull types which also begs the question of why are standard free and far and fat traders streamlined at all when the cost of adding that Cr10,000 per ton to your mortgage (1,000,000 for a free/far trader which divided by 240 is 4,168 per month) when you can pay considerably less for...

Re: Travellers Needed - Core Rulebook Reprint

Re pronouns being old I also find 'they' infelicitous but being a Commie Pinko European I also understand that sensitivity is in order. IIRC the HeroQuest RPG made all player refererences 'he' and all GM references 'she' which actually added clarity and I'd suggest doing same while dropping the odd ...

I wouldn't go all the way with universal or common anagathics - my own houserule is a minor tweak which on average delays ageing losses by a couple of terms and increases life expectancy to 80+

Re: Travellers Needed - Pirates of Drinax Reprint

A bit more detail on characters from Drinax and Asim - 2D life event tables would make them more varied.

Quite like to see full NPC stats for the Drinaxi royal family, leading courtiers etc.

Re: Travellers Needed - Core Rulebook Reprint

1. Re-assess the Jump-6 passage cost - I know it is supposed to be from a spreadsheet but I'm damned if I can replicate your result which seems to be out by a whole order of magnitude from what it should be. 2. A skills table would be nice. 3. Bookmarks that work in the pdf 4. Expanded pre-career ge...

Re: Work on comprehensive index

I've also compiled a list of the careers, ships and scenarios from MGT1 - it is not an index as such but rather a list of which book those items appear in.

I'll post a link to it when I've tidied it up a bit.

Re: The Mercenary Kickstarter is Now Live!

I agree the British army (and even more so Navy and air force) have fallen below some sort of critical mass threshold. However just looked at the US Army rank breakdown which for generals is rather less silly (1:1400 personnel rather than 1:400) but pretty similar as regards officers to enlisted men...

Re: The Mercenary Kickstarter is Now Live!

The British army currently has over 200 generals for under 80,000 troops - a ratio of 1:400 and has 13,000 officers to just 66,000 other ranks or 1:5. As for NCO's there are 18,000 Sergeants and warrant officers and 22,000 corporals and lance corporals to just 25,000 actual privates - and that is wi...

Re: The Mercenary Kickstarter is Now Live!

The foot guards and honourable artillery company still have lance sergeants - I rest my case... It is a good point that the British give more responsibility to lower ranked NCOs than the Americans - part of which is down to our only having having the four (or six counting warrant officers) non commi...

Re: The Mercenary Kickstarter is Now Live!

I was referring to the draft book having 'lance' as a unit name rather than to the rank. A lance was in the late middle ages the basic military unit consisting of one knight or man-at-arms and his entourage which generally included one or more archers, squires, pages and so on. However the lance as ...
