Re: Real World - why people + computers make best combination

Definitely. If I wanted to represent current medical training I'd go for a 4 year degree in Life Sciences with a minor in Medic that represents a pre-med degree and then a 4 year Med School term that gives Medic-3. However Medical really should be a cascade skill with First Aid, Surgery, General Med...

Re: Real World - why people + computers make best combination

A Traveller with level two to three in a skill is a skilled professional in that field. A Traveller with level four or five is probably both well-respected and well-known in his field. They're interning; somewhere before the end of the series they graduate to three . Except US medical interns have ...

Impossible unless you don't know that you are spies.

Which will presumably require some sort of memory implantation and erasure.

Re: Xenobiologist

Perfect fictional inspiration would be Dr Maturin in Patrick O'Brian's Master and Commander books (and the film of that name) He is technically a ship's surgeon but also a botanist, zoologist etc who when he is not sawing bones after naval battles catalogues the flora and fauna of every new island t...

https://www.vnews.am/wp-content/uploads/2017/10/Scrubs.jpg Medical - two . In S01 they are interns who have completed at least 3 years of a pre-med degree and 4 years at medical school. This is surely worth at least Medical-3 in Traveller terms? (I see the Medic background in the Companion indeed h...

Re: Xenobiologist

Consider buying Theories of Everything which is a basically an eccentric group of scientists bumming around on a lab ship mini campaign. And remember a PC can have multiple careers - a spell in college studying xenobiology, a couple of terms in the Scouts survey branch and then a couple of terms as ...

Re: Large Scout Ships?

Yeah, I'll pass on agent book. While T5 is official (and I'm a kickstarter backer), it's a dust collector as far as I'm concerned. The Empress Wave is something that I've never bothered with or done much with. And one would have to figure out if it's going to be part of the Traveller universe or no...

Re: Large Scout Ships?

Wasn't one of the Azhanti High Lightning cruisers (60,000 dtons IIRC?) handed over to the Scouts?

Correction: IISS had 4 Lightning class cruisers transferred to them.

Re: So, what's with the supplements?

While I would love lots of fully detailed alien books it is worth remembering that all the classic traveller alien books could be fitted into one 200-300 page book with a lot of space left over for minor races. And I would much rather see one Alien compendium book with enough detail to create charac...

Re: Do the Imperium know about Theev?

How can the Imperium (or at least the commanders of whatever fleet defends the Trojan Reaches) not know about Theev? It is more of a question of can a few pirate gangs do enough damage to imperial commerce for them to act on this knowledge? The answer to which is obviously no - until the point that ...

Re: Passage and Freight Costs table

Not as simple as that as every increase in jump drive requires not just an increase in power plant but in fuel carried - and thus a reduction in available space for cargo and revenues. Alternatively make it a +50% increase per jump - so 1000, 1500, 2250, 3375 etc. Or apply logical supply and demand ...

Re: Pirates of Drinax: Game of Sun & Shadow

It also raises the issue of why would the Imperium attempt to destroy a new buffer state between them and the Ihatei hordes? (who canonically will c.1117 overrun the Trojan Reaches anyway). Yes the piracy would be an annoyance but they already tolerate not one but at least two worlds full of pirates...

Re: Thinking of getting rid of Astrogation, Medic...and ship computers in general

We know already there is a nobility and that there are an underclass who never qualify for pensions so yes it is already a tiered society. However if the pension system works as per RAW it is remarkably egalitarian - a 6 term navy Admiral gets the exact same basic pension as a 6 term Able Spacehand ...

Re: Passage and Freight Costs table

Simple solution: stick with the CT default values for passage and freight and multiply by jump distance.
