Re: Imperial Marines Numbered Units

I haven't been able to find any so I just model mine on current military units. If your model is based on US Marines, your basic US Marine infantryman would be a member of 1st, 2nd, 3rd or 4th platoon. The platoon would fall under a company (4 platoons per company) designated by a letter of the alph...

Re: Rulebook reprint

So that means the pdf has been updated as well? That's easy to check on DriveThru, but I bought my copy through Leisure Games and their BitsnMortar pdf distribution. Any idea if that will have been updated? I emailed Matt a request for the revised pdf and I received a link for a free download from ...

Re: I'm having a problem with the asteroid belt mining rules

The classic traveller module Beltstrike, which has a better set of mining rules that you can simply lift into MgT, is also available on Drivethru RPG, as is the Beltstrike adventure for MgT 1e - although I prefer the Classic Traveller Module's mining rules for a party of PCs. J I have Classic Trave...

Re: I'm having a problem with the asteroid belt mining rules

"Roll 2D twice on the Asteroid Size and Yield table: once for the object’s size, and again for the object’s Resource Yield. The Resource Yield indicates the percentage of the object’s mass that has been determined in the Resource Presence table. Remember to apply any DMs for Dense materials or Exoti...

Re: I'm having a problem with the asteroid belt mining rules

Thanks, PsiTraveller. How did you come up with the composition of the remaining material of the asteroid? "Now your example is a bit of a fluke in that you scored a 12+ on the 2D roll to get a D asteroid." Yea, I got lucky and rolled a 12 on the Asteroid Composition Table. In fact, I got lucky with ...

Re: I'm having a problem with the asteroid belt mining rules

Okay. So I started over from the beginning and found a 1,000,000 Ton asteroid composed of Dense Materials (including metals). The Yield is 32%, so 1,000,000 Tons x 32% = 320,000 Tons. I'm assuming Type D material is Dense Metals on the commodity table (I'm not really sure because the rules don't rea...

Re: Imperial marines and battledress

"SEALS are equated with US Army Delta Force." That is not correct. SEAL Team 6 is the only SEAL team equated with Delta Force and the two are the only tier-one special operations units in the US military. All the other SEAL Teams, as well as Army Special Forces, Marine Force Recon/Raiders, and Air F...

Re: I'm having a problem with the asteroid belt mining rules

Thanks, Dick and Jeraa. Jeraa, I understand everything except where did the 13.5 come from? Number of cubic meters in a single displacement ton. At least in some versions of Traveller. Others use 14 cubic meters per displacement ton. Not sure which one MgT 2e uses. Oh, okay, thanks! That seems real...

Re: I'm having a problem with the asteroid belt mining rules

So I'm going through the asteroid belt mining rules in High Guard and I'm trying to calculate the yield of a claim using the table on page 77. I rolled for the Size/Extent (Tons) of the asteroid and the result was "Small Planetoid". Then I rolled for the Resource Yield and the result was "4D %". Th...

Re: Imperial marines and battledress

"Well, I should have been more explicit there. A 'team' in SEAL terms, is variable in size, depending on how you are using it. I didn't use it very clearly." A SEAL Team is not variable in size. It is a set unit made up of six platoons of 16 SEAL's each. A platoon is usually the largest group of SEA...

Re: Imperial marines and battledress

"It would be better to deliver a SEAL team than two platoons of infantry. It would be better to deploy a Ranger battalion than a standard infantry battalion." That would depend on the mission. A USMC infantry platoon has 50 Marines. A SEAL team has 96 SEALs but the largest operational element assign...

Who provides medical services for the Navy?

I notice that there is no Medic skill on any of the Navy career skill tables. It seems to me it should be on the advanced training table. I also notice Drive skill is on the advanced training table. Really...drive...advanced training? New house rules for me. One - Replace Drive with Medic on the Nav...

Re: [NewTraveller] Questions: Char Gen Careers and Skills

Here's my take on the rules: (1) Is it allowed for a Traveller to successfully choose and pass university more than once (maximum of three times/terms)? Or is a succssful entry in university a once in a lifetime thing prohibiting re-entry in university in any other term afterwards (same for military...

"Character generation does not support every ISM being battledress trained - the 3I is not yanks in space and the more that trope creeps in the worse it gets. Re: Imperial marines and battledress

Being a US Marine myself, I think of battle dress the same way I think of heavy weapons, so in my mind every Marine would probably be trained to use battle dress but your basic Marine infantryman would not have it issued to him. It would most likely be available from a Marine weapons company or plat...
