Skandersvik - GM Thread

There is a Pirate of Drinax thread, and I thought I'd make one dedicated to Skandersvik to share ideas as well... I'm thinking about using Skandersvik, since it is not terribly long, as the first stage in a lengthy campaign. My idea is to segue Skandersvik at the tail end into the Pirates of Drinax ...

Re: Precipitating Out of Jump - Damage?

It just seems like something was missing in the final edit. It happens.

Precipitating Out of Jump - Damage?

So looking at the Traveller Companion it is referenced that being precipitated out of a jump by a gravitational field causes "bad things" in some fashion. At one point stating "It is not possible to hit a precise emergence point within the 100-diamter limit. Most commonly, attempting to do so will c...

Re: How To Play Traveller RPG Online With Roll20

It isn't impossible, but I think they are less ideal than 2d maps. To me they are cluttered, and objects like bunks can obscure grid spaces to their left. I'd like clean, 2d maps, without room numbers or the like on them for VTT play.

Re: How To Play Traveller RPG Online With Roll20

I think the largest obstacle to Traveller in Roll20 is the terrible isometric maps that Mongoose has decided to use to support this current edition.

VTT Compatible Maps

With the global pandemic nearly every traditional tabletop RPG game or club has turned to some form of VTT to continue play. In this regard Mongoose is substantially behind the curve by not supporting in the most basic fashion the ability to use their products online in a VTT game. The design decisi...

Re: Great Rift Adventure 2: Deepnight Endeavour 2d map

This is a serious deficiency by Mongoose. With their current design aesthetic of isometric ship plans they are nearly impossible to use in a VTT setting. It should not be up to us, the customer, to spend hours trying to make a usable product in an environment that more and more games are being playe...

Re: Great Rift Adventure 2: Deepnight Endeavour

turning each 5dton block into a 3X3 1.5m block should be close enough That's what I'm planning to do, if I decide that level of detail is needed... Might be able to pull it off with more generic and broad descriptions... Remains to be seen :) I'll probably run it on Roll20, so it ends up being very...

Re: Great Rift Adventure 2: Deepnight Endeavour

Yeah, that is is smudge awkward, but turning each 5dton block into a 3X3 1.5m block should be close enough.. I'm thinking about running this as part of a Roll20 campaign.

Re: Great Rift Adventure 2: Deepnight Endeavour

Each map square is five dtons of space. What dimensions does each square equate to if I want to map the areas in greater detail?

Re: Can gauss weapons use AP rounds?

The major way I stop people from just using AP ammo all the time IMTU is legality. Places might be tolerant of you carrying a pistol, or rifle around, but when you start humping AP rounds around, or even hunting them down to purchase them in a moderate law level society, the authorities may take no...

Re: Can gauss weapons use AP rounds?

I think that a gauss round should, at the very least, lose its AP qualities if it is incendiary. I agree that the rules, as written, are often guidelines, but players have these resources, and while a good player may appreciate a referee's ruling, some will feel like it is just arbitrariness. Travel...

LASERs, Armor and Reflec Question / MgT2

I'm a little confused on energy weapons (LASER weapons in particular) and armor. Let's take cloth armor as an example. Does Cloth offer any protection against LASERS? It is described as a ballistic cloth that spreads impact damage, but, unless I am missing it, it does not explicitly say that it does...

Re: Can gauss weapons use AP rounds?

Can a gauss round be incendiary? The rules generalize a great deal (I'm sure for the sake of simplicity I guess..) but it, personally, doesn't make sense to me that a small metallic dart could somehow have an incendiary property. But RAW I suppose it does?
