Re: Transfer of cargo in space
One thing that occurs to me is that if grav plates can be installed in a starship, and in theory, one would expect that they would need a fairly substantial amount of power to operate - that "pallets" with grav fields of their own might not be slim things at all, or if they are, their power supply w...

Re: Transfer of cargo in space
Dumb question time: in zero g of space, why can't you equip a wall with grav plates any have cargo fall towards the Grav plate from one ship towards the other?

Re: Revisiting the Fifth Frontier War narrative
All interesting comments - and will be filed away for later use... ;) Cross pollinating from the Facebook thread - one comment that was made was that the Sword World's "Viking" psyche (my words, not his by the way) were such that they are driven by their culture to raid for personal honor etc. I can...

Revisiting the Fifth Frontier War narrative
Hello Folks, Recently, I started watching MADAME SECRETARY (ok, Binge Watching actually) and I got to wondering "how can I adapt this for use with my Lunion subsector campaign. Substituting The POTUS with the Duke of Lunion, I'd have to of course, invent the role of Secretary of State for use with t...

Re: Demographics of the Spinward Frontier: Building Sectors
If I weren't trying to code a universal Travellermap.com data file reader (those downloadable sec.txt files do not use a fixed field set up - this requiring the file to be parsed) I would use those illustrations from SPINWARD MARCHES CAMPAIGN. That might be a fun try. What I want to do is create a c...

Re: Demographics of the Spinward Frontier: Building Sectors
Just out of curiosity, has anyone ever tried using the Travellermap.com applications for displaying custom traveller maps? For instance, imagine taking the steps outlined by the original poster - and you want to be able to send that to the Travellermap.com app that makes sector maps for you. You can...

Just out of curiosity - just what are the limits for writing freeware apps for use with Mongoose Traveller?
Is there a private email for Mongoose Matt to ask permission?
Just curious.

Second Survey errata - who do I contact?
Anyone know where I should direct any possible errata regarding Second Survey data from Travellermap.com? The issue is as follows: # Alleg: NaXX: "Non-Aligned, unclaimed" 3140 Auitawry A56689A-C Ri Pa Ph An Pz DroyW { 4 } (F7E+5) [AC7E] - KM A 514 10 NaXX G6 V What is the problem? NaXX was assigned ...

Business model for Xboat Couriers in the Spinward Marches
Hello Folks, Elsewhere on a Facebook Traveller Group, someone brought up a question about how often Xboat couriers are sent and arrive throughout the various portions of the Spinward Marches - which in turn set my mind off on a tangent... What would be the business model of the Xboat Courier? Just a...

Re: sleep tubes and batteries and mothballed ships
See - here's the thing. I started out with Classic Traveller back in the stone age. We didn't even have desk top publishing when Traveller first came out, let alone PDF's. When they finally unearthed my birth certificate clay tablets, they still translated the date wrong because the dust had gotten ...

Re: sleep tubes and batteries and mothballed ships
Use the Powering down rules on page 144 of the core book. Cut the Basic Power by half, shut the maneuver engine off and any other system you won't be using from inside a low berth. The remaining power is used to calculate how much the plant is throttled back then calculate how much time the remaini...

Re: Any published guidelines on how long it takes to online a ship?
Nuclear weaponry and/or weapons of mass destruction are not likely to be available on the open market or even generally available to the civilian market. If your Third Imperium permits civilian use of such weapons - well, life for civilians are going to be interesting. ;) As for nuclear armaments ab...

Re: sleep tubes and batteries and mothballed ships
At present, I'm attempting to determine what "1 power" is equivalent to in real terms. As best as I can tell, a single low berth requires 1/10th of a power, since you can power up 10 low berths for 1 energy. It seems a bit odd that an emergency low berth requires a full power, but can only handle fo...

sleep tubes and batteries and mothballed ships
Hi All, Just curious - what is the LONGEST any one individual can stay in cold berth absent a power plant? Does Cold berth require temperature control to the extent for example, that one could remove a person from cold berth and place them in a cold temperature cave whose temperature remains constan...

Re: OPFOR for the Sword Worlds
I have been utilizing the Sector Fleet book, as well as focusing on the Lunion sub-sector for the bulk of my campaigns, that when I picked up the Element Cruiser material, it was in prep for a fifth frontier war campaign complete with pirates, commerce raiding, etc. With the Sword Worlds being adjac...

OPFOR for the Sword Worlds
Hello Folks, By chance, has there ever been a listing of Sword World ship forces in the Sword World subsector? Sector Fleet lists the assets in the Spinward Marches, but I wondered if there happened to be any published material other than STEVE JACKSON GAMES "Sword Worlds"? I do have access to the A...

Re: New vs Previous Traveller
For what it is worth, I finally took the plunge and picked up 2nd edition. Eventually, I'm going to want to compare each of the two books against each other just to see what did or did not change. ONE thing that I am impressed with (ie "what took so long???!!!") was the fact that incidental freight ...

Re: Help with calculating cargo lots
I'm a little confused here. I specified 1d6+2 minor lots, and 1d6+1 major lots as an example. Sorry, I assumed 2nd edition. I tried to point out that according to MgT2 Core, p208 you can't roll 1D +2 lots, only a straight 1D, 2D, 3D, ..., 10D (without mods). Interesting - a change in 2nd edition fr...

Re: Help with calculating cargo lots
... and you find yourself with a market that has 1d6 +2 minor freight lots, and 1d6 +1 Major freight lots. Rolling 1d6+2, you end up with say, a 3+2 or 5 minor lots. You also roll a 4 for Major lots, becoming a 5 as well. By RAW the mods apply to the roll on the table, not the roll for number of lo...
