Re: Alternative to drop tanks

You'd have to plumb the intakes pretty cleverly to accommodate that and also the ability to do it with water. Airflow at 300 or whatever kph would play merry hell with aerodynamics. May even cause the airflow to create an air wall in the intake and stop most of the airflow. Just out of curiosity - ...

Re: Alternative to drop tanks

The specific information on cracking water... " Hydrogen fuel in Traveller is liquid hydrogen, not hydrogen gas, so 1 dton (14 cubic meters) is actually 1 ton of hydrogen. 9 cubic meters of water weighs 9 tons and can be cracked for 8 tons oxygen and 1 ton hydrogen. " Got that from a Gent named Anth...

Re: Alternative to drop tanks

Phavoc, I say this half in jest... You're using too much logic. ;) At least, that is what my wife tells me. In any event, I was curious as to how much hydrogen you can crack from 1 liter of water. I thought to myself that I can't possibly be right. So, anyone want to tell me what they think that num...

Re: Hijackers - gotta love'm

Of course, you can always tell the player "roll 2d6 please" before every jump. Regardless of what they roll... "Darn, don't get to do it this time." not that I'd do that! (Note to self: implement this for the next campaign on a ship with passengers) For what it is worth, my Fantasy Grounds Traveller...

Re: Implications of the Firmpoint to Turret conversion rule

Can anyone tell me if there is an errata out there for "Heavy Turrets"? Page 24, top right corner, shows a table with the following entries: Fixed Mount Single Turret Double Turret Triple Turret Pop-Up Mounting That's fine. I can see that to use a turret, you need 1 energy (regardless of whether it ...

Re: Implications of the Firmpoint to Turret conversion rule

2) are converted turrets any different than regular turrets? Implied answer: No. Received wisdom is yes, turrets on firmpoints are different, they are smaller. The turret socket is 1 Dt in the craft, but the turret itself sticks out outside the craft. They still have the same cost and power require...

Re: Implications of the Firmpoint to Turret conversion rule

There is not problem with the rule as written. The entire argument that "turning a firmpoint into a hardpoint" breaks the game is predicated on an inaccurate assumption. Small craft use firmpoints instead of hardpoints. Small craft weapons are usually mounted in fixed mounts. A FIXED MOUNT can be u...

Re: Implications of the Firmpoint to Turret conversion rule

We’ve always used the three weapon scales in the play test rules of v2. However we use a factor of 5 between them: Personal = 1/5 vs Vehicle, 1/25 vs Ships Vehicle/Smallcraft = 5 x vs Personal, 1/5 vs Ships Ship = 25 x Personal, 5 x Vehicle/Small craft I bring this up because it led to the firmpoin...

Implications of the Firmpoint to Turret conversion rule

Hello Folks, This thread/topic is a sub-thread from another. Quoted below is the point that was made and the implications therein were something that leaped out at me the moment I read the rule on the second edition of MgT's HIGH GUARD. When I read the rules about converting a firmpoint to a small t...

Re: Breakaway Hulls and turrets

No problem. Guess the rules could have been a little clearer on that. Care to enlighten us how hardpoints are supposed to be handled for breakaway sections? I had no problem handling the way hard points are supposed to be handled. Treat each breakaway ship as its own ship. Build each one as if it w...

Re: Breakaway Hulls and turrets

Thanks for the confirmation. :) So, a four module breakaway system plus a core module, results in a loss of 8% of the ship's combined hull volume. Would it be safe to assume that this percentage loss is shared between the two hulls on a pro-rated basis? For instance, let's take a situation where we ...

Re: Breakaway Hulls and turrets

I bought the Fessor Cargo ship module (excellent ship) and it got me thinking. The ship is a breakaway based 400 ton design with 196 tons of breakaway hull capability. You can mix and match various modules to meet whatever mission you are on. The ship has 40o tons with 2 turrets on it. At 400 tons ...

Re: Colonization history of the Third Imperium

I still don't understand the problem. Canon tells us Mora was settled by LSP in 60 and not that much else. We also know that Mora remains the sector capital and still a hugely important world a millennium later. Ergo there must have been a jolly good reason it was settled in the first place. On the...

A guy boards the ship with no weapons, just his had-comp and normal luggage. The PCs don't know but he is sending six big sealed crates by a shipping company on the same flight. Inside the crates are four big robots converted to war-drones. Also in there is survival gear, weapons and armour for him...

Re: Colonization history of the Third Imperium

Maybe a big colony ship had irreparable jump drive problems at Mora and so ended up settling there? Make up a story. Were this a clean slate - "Make up a story" would be a fine bit of advice. ;) The initial supporting material on the Spinward Marches specifies that Mora is settled by Ling Standard ...

Re: Thnk like a criminal in the Third Imperium

In response to the smiley accented question - first game of TRAVELLER was in 1979. Currently running a Milieu Zero campaign. ;) Thing is, player characters are rarely members of the local criminal underworld. Unfortunately, travelers who run into the criminal elements do so either as victims, or as ...
