Re: Wet Navy Combat Damage

Here are some thoughts (three possible approaches): As the MgT2e system stands, there are a three things going on: 1. Wet navy ships have a capped armour level. So they're always going to take quite a bit of damage from destructive hits (although, as you note, they can take *a lot* of hits). 2. Torp...

Page 156, Electromagnetic Environment Protection: "each of that" should be "each of which". Page 178, "trial an error" should be "trial and error". Page 183, "but they becomes an Enemy" reads a bit off. I would say "but he/she becomes an Enemy". Page 211, Armour sets. Kforzhazuk should weigh 3.5kg (...

Re: Aliens of charted space vol 1 typos.

1. Page 109, I think should read "There is little leeway for those who cannot do this due to circumstances and an unmarried female eventually becomes casteless and is driven out of her family." (at present it reads "There is a little leeway...", which seems to contradict the second half of the sente...

Re: Vargr careers seem odd

Balance in the math apparently isn't something that they're designing for with this book, so... Some of the specializations with higher difficulties seem to have more rank-up benefits associated with them, so in theory you get more out of them if you go for 5/6 terms and succeed at both rolls in ev...

Re: Aliens of charted space vol 1 typos.

1. K’kree with SOC 10 aren’t identified as either merchants or nobles. I suggest Merchants be SOC 7-10, since otherwise levels of nobility need to shuffle. This needs fixing on page 125 (table) and 134, Merchant page. 2. Page 127, the table allows Merchants to be assigned to “service” on a roll of 1...

Aliens of charted space vol 1 typos.

Thought I'd start a topic for typos in the new pdf. 1. Zhodani career summary (page 255) seems to have three careers from Aslan tacked on the end (Outcast, Outlaw, Wanderer). 2. Vargr Corsair page 186 and Vargr Emissary show "Commissioner" and "+1 SOC" as a second rank 6 row. The same problem occurs...

Vargr careers seem odd

Just been reading the new Aliens of Charted Space, and the Vargr careers seem a bit unusual. Pretty much all of the Imperial/Zhodani/Aslan careers have survival and advancement add up to the same number, so jobs are a risk/return tradeoff. For example, in the imperial navy: Line/crew Survival 5+ Adv...

JTAS sensor rules

I was reading the sensor rules (from JTAS volume 4) this morning, and struggling to make sense of Emissions Control. Maybe I've misunderstood what the rules are supposed to simulate, or maybe I'm misunderstanding the rules themselves. Hopefully someone can help! My read of how sensors work is that a...

Anyone know when the new JTAS will be on sale for the general public? I figured I’d pick up the PDF when it was up for sale.

Re: The Traveller Companion - PDF & Pre-Order

A couple from the weaponry chapter: Carronades (pages 164-165) do not have a tonnage listed. They use 4 hard points, which suggests that they are almost as big as a large bay. Their damage is huge for a turret/barbette, but poor for a bay. Their size is important not only for displacement, but also ...

Re: The Traveller Companion - PDF & Pre-Order

A handful of typos/clarifications for the pot: Page 51, Crippling, critical, mortal, and devastating wounds: all are worded as "taking between X and Y times the traveller's END score in one attack". This doesn't make it clear what happens on multiples of the target's END score. For example, if a tar...

Re: The Traveller Companion - PDF & Pre-Order

Some more comments on the pre-career options: 1. The Colonial Upbringing, Spacer Community, Psionic Community, and School of Hard Knocks should probably be “first term only”. Technically, pre-career options can be taken up until 3rd term (see p14, core book), but “upbringing” pre-career options don’...

Re: Vehicle Handbook: question about Hull=HP

I think the solutions in the Traveller Companion are fairly neat. I favour the first solution (designating 3D and lower damage as anti-personnel) since the second solution (bumping up armour) also nerfs "marginal" heavy weapons (for example, blowing up a car with a 4D rocket launcher is going to be ...

Re: Creating "new" characters

Thanks for the answers. Not allowing any extra skills for connections on "new" characters seems a fairly hard line. Those two points (that can be added to skills of the player's choosing) are pretty valuable. The skill package one is also tricky. On the one hand, denying a player the 1-2 skill point...

Creating "new" characters

Quick question: suppose a character dies in a campaign, or a new player joins the group. A new character has to be created and added to the team. Three things become potentially complicated: 1. If the new character has ship shares (and/or a deceased character had ship shares). This has been discusse...

Re: detection rules

Letting every ship in a squadron roll individually quickly leads to automatic detection. However, only allowing one roll means it's no harder to elude a squadron than a single ship. I'd suggest using the boon rules. Treat the extra ships as "helpers", so the best ship rolls, with a boon from the oth...

Re: Anti Vehicle Weapon Damage

Even more mind boggling is what it would take to sink an Achilles class frigate. Torpedoes do 5DD, but at 14000 hull, I make that 80 torpedoes (on average) to send her to Davy Jones' locker.

Dogfight rules

I'm a bit confused by the dogfighting rules. 1. If initiating a dogfight is a substantial action, how does a fighter pilot actually attack? Isn't their action used by the dogfighting (unless they didn't initiate the dogfight). 2. If the bonus/penalty to hit lasts until the end of the round, then win...
