Re: Spaceship vs. Starship

You could build the modules as Fragile. Maybe discount the cost if they don’t need life support (or power).

Re: Ship modification - stretching

I keep thinking about The Flight of The Phoenix (the original movie with James Stewart).... There’s also a story (possibly apocryphal) about one of stretched DC-9 variants that had a prototype fuselage break in two at the plug on the runway prior to a test flight. And the Liberty ships that broke in...

Re: Spaceship vs. Starship

I think I would limit multiple spinal mounts by ship size - maybe no more than one per 500K dtons?

Re: MgT2 skill-level philosophy ???

Another reason to not roll for mundane checks is that it slows gameplay down. Limiting dice rolling to only dramatic situations speeds the action up. You could say simple possession of an appropriate skill (such as Profession) nullifies the need for a mundane check. You could also use a single task ...

Re: Spaceship vs. Starship

The critical hit rule for 6+ Effect on a attack check more or less simulates this.

Re: How much combat do you have in your campaigns?

My group has easy access to a Law Level 0 world which is notorious for easy availability of high-tech weaponry (for outrageous prices). To date they’ve only visited the weapons market once. Yes, I find that very unusual for a Traveller group too. But they are spending a lot of time on a high-law wor...

Re: New vs Previous Traveller

2nd edition does not have zero-G skill, which is why we are discussion Athletics (Dex). It is the skill used in place on Zero-G. One recent change (with the Traveller Companion) is an expanded definition of broad skills. Profession may have benefited the most - sub-skills and specialties are fleshe...

Re: How much combat do you have in your campaigns?

My current campaign was a little low on combat for the first 6-8 sessions - several short ground combat scenes with generally low-lethality weapons and a couple of short space battles with would-be space pirates. The players were fine with that - they having fun being diplomats, making money trading...

Re: New vs Previous Traveller

The only significant change in your example that I’m aware of is Boon/Bane mechanic. But I’m not familiar enough with the MGT1 rules to be sure of that.

Re: Ship's Locker: Out of the Closet

There’s a rumor that the YouTube video that’s supposed to demonstrate the unbreakability of the window glass shows the door isn’t secured but I’m not convinced that’s correct. I’ve done breakage trials on gorilla glass and similar composites. How it’s supported is almost as important as the material...

Re: Spaceship vs. Starship

To that point - when fitting vehicle-scale weaponry to spacecraft maybe we should increase required volume to allow the weapons to be retracted when entering atmosphere?

I doubt rentals would come with weaponry. Certainly not missiles.

Re: Could species be allergic to each other?

It is even different between play groups. The group I've played with for years are "manly men" and would disdain any reference to intimate relationships with "furries". They would never ever play a female character, and they think I do most of the time (over the years about 10% of my characters hav...

Re: Could species be allergic to each other?

I agree with your assumption on cross-species relations - like today some worlds / cultures will be open and accepting, others virulently opposed, and the rest scattered across the continuum in between. Those feelings could be based on tradition / past history, cultural / religious biases, perceived...
