Re: Lion air, B-737 and "AI" again.

The most disturbing part of this for me personally is an apparently complete miss by Boeing on the functional safety side. Like all commercial aircraft manufacturers Boeing is obligated to adhere to ISO 26262, which mandates a review and update of the aircraft’s safety case for design changes like t...

Didn't the US Air Force have an unmanned "space plane" for just those kinds of missions?

Re: What is "canon" these days?

I think ultimately each GM must decide for themselves what will be part of their TU and what will not. I look at "canon" as more informative than normative - I mine those reservoirs of knowledge as needed but I don't feel particularly bound to strictly adhere to them if I don't think it fits with my...

Re: Ship's Locker: Out of the Closet

I came across a quote decades ago about you can shell a piece of ground, bomb it, sterilize it - but you can’t actually take it until you stand a seventeen-year-old with a rifle on it.

I’ll try to dig it up when I have more time. Dates back to the 60s I think.

Re: Ship's Locker: Out of the Closet

I could see starports having at least one of these - or something like it:

Re: Hijackers - gotta love'm

Maybe a mercenary detachment on the way to their unit - an NCO or two, a couple of new recruits, etc - riding along with a subbie carrying supplies for their unit. The crew had been scheming to just make the cargo disappear but then the mercenaries requested passage at the last minute....

Re: Ship's Locker: Out of the Closet

There's also a two or three technological level gap between the current standard issue assault rifle, and the default Traveller Advanced Combat Rifle, and my take on it, at least for the Solomani, would be using different barrel lengths for different roles, and an especially heavy amd long one for ...

Did it look like any of the designs would be able to reduce recoil enough to allow auto fire while using the optical sight?

Re: Breakaway Hulls and turrets

Modular Hull ≠ Breakaway Hull. I think that’s what I was missing from this conversation. Modular starship construction makes a world of sense to me, and not just to facilitate multi-role vessels like the Element-Class cruisers. Standard starship designs could be built in a similar fashion. Not sure...

Re: Ship's Locker: Out of the Closet

Interesting... I see the advantages for competitive shooters. Might be beneficial for units like SWAT teams who have short-duration deployments and don’t have to lug 50 lbs of field gear on their back as well. Reliability might also be a concern in the field, although that would likely improve with ...
