Re: Low tech ships - Need help

It would be hydrogen but we can use the same thing but with other fuel types depending on the campaign needs.

Most of the Star Wars "Star Destroyers" are more Star Cruisers via the loadout.

Re: Low tech ships - Need help

Chem plants require fuel but are generators not batteries. High Capacity Batteries don't require fuel, instead have a fixed displacement per x power units where x depends on tech level.

Re: Solomani Confederation (Military)

With an all in one design its best to increase estimated size. A good range for this sort of thing would be 50K-100Kdt as it would allow a spinal, heavy fighters and a troop complement without hitting battleship size.

Re: Ship Design Philosophy

I'd say most of the displacement is sensors not the weapon itself so wouldn't take advantage of the options under Primitive and Advanced section.

Re: Ship Design Philosophy

Point Defense systems are dedicated to handling missile / torpedo salvoes and would include dedicated sensors to optimize response. Laser turrets are dual mode weapons and can be used to augment point defense while lowering offensive actions.

Re: Ship Design Philosophy

If you want to get technical the maximum range for point defense is short range if another ship has point defense system and the Point Defense /2 software, for an individual ship it would be adjacent at under 1km range.

Re: How close are orbital starports?

Not to mention the high rollers wouldn't bother with public transport options, they tend to go with their own private ships.

Re: Ship Design Philosophy

Already handled by the -2 dm for the bomb pumped torpedoes. ( With sand casters being effective against it.)

Re: Solomani Confederation (Military)

Its because the ships are used under similar usage and it makes it easier to transition training methods and command setups.

Re: Low tech ships - Need help

The japanese Navy had little resources available to sustain either option, as this was a desperation move to see if they could buy more time to consolidate their conquests and improve resource production.

Re: Low tech ships - Need help

Either use strike carriers for extraction or bail into populated areas.

Pearl Harbour was a bit overblown as it used a lot of resources by an already overextended Japanese navy.

Re: Low tech ships - Need help

Just remember that both the launching vessel and the launched craft can't expend any thrust during the launch phase. As for the pearl harbour, use a large bulk carrier that normally uses external cargo mounts and replace them with docking clamps with the fighters disguised by a cover to look like ca...

Thats ideal, however you never know when an enemy fleet might jump into system near your fleet. ( Where getting your fighters out while disengaging is a good idea.)

Re: Low tech ships - Need help

Launch Tubes only allows marginally faster launches, but it can be done while under thrust, hence e.g. dodging. So launch tubes confer a marginal advantage at huge cost. Note that both the launched craft and the launching ship can use thrust and can participate in combat, so there is more than marg...

Re: Modular hull question

All the early designs I've seen still retained the drive section as part of the main body through an overhead strut. ( Much like the aforementioned helicopter.)
