Re: Ship is destroyed, now what?

If players wait to leave a ship that is about to be destroyed then it's not an unfortunate event, but the GM needs to be clear about the situation the players are in. ( D&D hit point system has created the notion of all or nothing fights.)

Re: Ship is destroyed, now what?

Just because a ship was sunk didn't mean it was wrecked, the battleships from Pearl Harbour are a good example of this as many were raised and repaired. ( Representative of multiple critical hits rendering the ship inoperable rather then wrecked.)

Re: Ship is destroyed, now what?

Which is done before the ship is a complete wreck, you don't wait for the ship to fail structurally before hitting the emergency exit.

Re: Ship is destroyed, now what?

Hull at 0 means nothing left to hold equipment together, hence why the ship is inoperable and irreparable.

For the crew to survive, they need to eject before the hull hits 0.

Re: Ship is destroyed, now what?

Once a spacecraft has been
reduced to zero Hull, it is wrecked and becomes totally
inoperable, and is beyond any repair
Pretty explicit rule.

If your hull is low, run or surrender before it hits 0.

Re: Ship Design Philosophy

This lead me to the inescapable conclusion years ago that collector technology doesn't just gather light it must also absorb neutrinos, gravitational waves, particulate radiation (the solar wind) the lot in order to power a jump drive - the alternative is that there is some as yet unknown to the st...

Re: What tools exist at TL 15 to perform this contemporary hostage rescue mission?

The Densitometer is able to operate against ships around 500,000t, so lighting up a base with it isn't a problem.

Re: Boarding Craft

The combat fleet starts at distant and closes to very long / long range, engages the enemy with the assault fleet waiting in the wings. If the combat fleet is winning the fight and manages to isolate an enemy ship for possible boarding, that is when the assault fleet starts its fast burn and prepare...

Re: Boarding Craft

20 Turns at a gain of 2 thrust per turn is medium range, which is in the range of the large bays and though less than ideal still in range for the assault pods.

Re: Boarding Craft

Enemy is already engaged by the combat fleet so have to make a decision of whether to try to maintain distance or use their thrust for dodging, further warships only have thrust 6 maximum and the assault ships have thrust 8 for at least 10 turns with 5 turns required to get into short range. From sh...

Re: Boarding Craft

The assault ships would be following up with the combat ships who would be doing the majority of the softening of the target and the aim is to get the assault ships within short range, then deploy the pods so they only have 1 turn of exposure while able to take the boarding action on the same turn. ...

Re: Boarding Craft

Here's a stab at a more conventional Assault Ship and Assault Pod. Ship https://i.imgur.com/c1Xcdbk.png Pod https://i.imgur.com/LNbv2V3.png Pods are stored in the launch tube system and both vessels are designed for short term operation so very little crew as well as very little cargo space. Might s...

Re: Boarding Craft

The idea of using the 2,000t hull is as an assault ship to ensure you can reach immediate deployment range for the pods, with 20tx10 pods / launch tube it would only take 420t and if instead using 10tx10 / launch tube would be 210t. Get to short range, fish for crits and then launch a boarding attac...

Re: Boarding Craft

Since bay weapons have the same penalty whether the ship is 400 dt or 2,000 dt, would make it better to go with the 2,000 dt assault ship as it would last longer and bring more guns to the fight. ( Also useful as launching platform for boarding craft.)

Re: A different take on Fighter design

Power Plant pricing has poor scaling between power per ton versus price per ton which leads to little drawback when dealing with lower tech items.

Re: A different take on Fighter design

Fighters aren't meant for long duration fights as there is no backup crew to support it. ( High Guard heavy fighters is more of a boat than a fighter.) Fusion plants aren't that much cheaper. TL 15 = 4.19 Mcr TL 12 = 2.793 Mcr TL 12 plants have too generous of a cost advantage. Besides, no more fuel...

Re: A different take on Fighter design

Combat can or often does go longer that 7 turns. These are kamikazes? You need power to get to and from a battle. 7 Turns for combat is a third of the total fuel available, there is 14 turns for approaching / returning. Further, you would only be sending at the most a third of your compliment again...

Re: Boarding Craft

The called shot rule is made significantly more appealing in the 2nd Edition Pirates od Drinax Campaign vs what was in scoundrel. Still have to get a critical hit, but if you do, you choose the affected system rather than just improving the roll. I wasn't aware of that possibility, since I don't do...
