Re: What's Traveller5 like?

A bit like MegaTraveller and Fire, Fusion and Steel weren't intuitive. They were meant to be detailed. MgT is like a lot of RPGs today, fast and simple in designing everything. Both styles have their attraction. T5 is attractive to the advanced detailist digging into a design manual. Also called ma...

Re: MGT1 Trade question

If we make the calculation, 2 middle passengers in a Sateroom would bring more profit than 1 Luxury passenger, which contradicts above quote. Luxury passengers only take the staterooms when luxury ones are not available and they generally will not accept Double Occupancy staterooms without pressing...

Re: High Efficiency Batteries for Jump

Collectors have a neat trick as there sized based on the number of jumps the ship can make, so can have multiple jump drives to allow for jump relays.

As for scout / military usage, more useful in long range survey and intelligence deep space mothership designs.

Re: Book 7 Commerical Entity?

Working on setting up a company using Book 7 Merchant Prince (1e) If I have 501+ wealth and 108 employees ((Loyalty 10 + Propaganda 3) x Dependability 9) at start. Will it be a Rank 0 or 1 company? You need to start from the Mission statement which there are 8 templates, which are used to determine...

Re: High Efficiency Batteries for Jump

One little snag with using a collector as a power source.
collectors
cannot be used for normal ship operations.
As for interoperability between T5 and Mgt 2ed, I believe the concepts and certain mechanics work but still have divergent specifics.

Re: High Efficiency Batteries for Jump

The Jump drive reference in MGT 2ed High Guard is with capacitors and power, it doesn't replace the hydrogen fuel requirement. ( Collector is an exception trading no fuel for longer downtime.)

Re: Drone blast from the blast

Not all satellites have a fixed orbit and can be moved (Slowly) into another orbit. Further, there appears to be a sort of hybrid approach with certain satellites where they exhibit fuller range of motion than would be required for orbiting. ( Alleged Russian or Chinese object seen moving between sa...

Re: Implications of the Firmpoint to Turret conversion rule

Both examples are displacement, as the airship has a gasbag that compacts far more than most structures while the heavy airplane has wings that don't compact as much.

Re: Implications of the Firmpoint to Turret conversion rule

The Vehicle Handbook uses several different conversion factors, sometimes it is 1 Spaces per Dt, sometimes 4 Spaces per Dt, and sometimes up to 10 Spaces per Dt. Could you list some, as I've only seen one area where there is a difference and that was the shipping size which aligns with storage in a...

Re: Implications of the Firmpoint to Turret conversion rule

To place a spacecraft weapon into a vehicle, simply multiply the tonnage of the weapon by four. This is how many Spaces it will consume, to a minimum of 1 Space. So no, spaces aren't just mass it is also used for displacement. ( Much like thrust 1 is used for both speed and acceleration, where thru...

Re: Breakaway Hulls and turrets

The pods use the same construction as a breakaway hull minus the connector, such as having a bridge in the pod with its own power source. Pods are explicitly not breakaway sections. Installing pods is a dockyard job requiring several weeks of work, as they become an integral part of the final desig...

Re: Implications of the Firmpoint to Turret conversion rule

A Triple turret is 1dt for all the components, so easily fits into the popup turret hold. The vehicle guide provides an idea of how big the components are, with each turret weapon being 0.25 dt (1 space) and the gunner position also being 0.25 dt (1 space) for a total of 1.0 dt (4 spaces) outside th...

Re: Breakaway Hulls and turrets

Did some checking with the ECC designs and the hull points for the pods are done from the pods displacement and not from the total hull points. Pods are not breakaway sections, but follow their own rules. Hull points of each section will be proportionate to the total Hull points of the ship. The po...

The aerofins are more craft that can't use streamlined hull type as they need a different option and for Interface Fighters which need to compete with vehicle scale fighters.

But when I went looking for the Barbettes on the other hand, the only thing I could find was that it takes up 5 dTons of volume. Re: Breakaway Hulls and turrets

I tend to think that turrets are too small anyway to cram in that amount of weapons systems, and would look forward as everyone scrambles to recalculate their ship designs. The displacement taken up in the hull is only the connector for the turret not the actual turret itself. ( Same as the differe...

Re: Breakaway Hulls and turrets

The total ship has 110000 Hull, so each section has 36666 Hull. Did some checking with the ECC designs and the hull points for the pods are done from the pods displacement and not from the total hull points. ( Amara class total displacement = 75,000dt = 41,250 hull points Pod total displacement = 2...
