Re: Shipping in the OTU is cheap!

Discussing this topic one has to think about the following: The rules in Traveller are written for player characters and therefore for a small niche in the interstellar economy. But those rules are meant for the smaller fraction of the economy and not the big part. Simulating an economy might be a b...

Re: Arguments for & against point-buy chargen

Couldn't disagree more. A good GM would punish you for this by stranding you on a planet where your PC's ability to draw an accurate map, harvest crops and build a house is the only thing between him and a lonely death. And does anyone really run Traveller as Mercenary Munchkin Murder Hobos in Spac...

Re: Arguments for & against point-buy chargen

I remember playing Traveller where dice were rolled 15 or 20 times by each player at the table during a game session. Now, the most that dice are ever rolled in a session is 5 times. Traveller doesn't revolve around characters making task checks anymore. Some people love to roll dice and others pre...

Re: Arguments for & against point-buy chargen

"A hobby. All spacemen have hobbies. There's very little work aboard ship in hyperspace; boredom is the worst enemy. My guns-and-missiles officer, Vann Larch, is a painter. Most of his work was lost with the Corisande on Durendal, but he kept us from starving a few times on Flamberge by painting pi...

Re: Arguments for & against point-buy chargen

That's what MongTrav means is that players know what kind of skills generally come in the most useful and would end up generating these very one-dimensional people who have no hobbies, no interests outside of Combat Rifleman, Battledress Operation, Pistol, and perhaps some social skills. I hate poi...

Re: Super high speed combat

An easy way to get an approximation of the number of combat rounds would be easy. It gets quite complicated and hardly usable at the table if you want to use this kind of combat at the table. "Lets do 20 combat rounds of accelerating and decelerating until you are close enough for combat". Oh and An...

Re: Super high speed combat

Is it really necessary to take the planets gravity into account? Doesn't the M-Drive accelerate you a fixed amount even though there is a planets gravity affecting you?

Would be interesting to know if this is still planned for any future supplement?

Re: Revisiting Fighters in a Post High Guard Era

Excuse? That is exactly RAW. MgT2E core rules at p. 160 "Point defence" states that missiles can only be targeted when they are about to hit your ship because they are too fast and small to be targeted at bigger distances by your turrets. And targeting ground targets with ship grade weapons is for ...

Re: Revisiting Fighters in a Post High Guard Era

A missile being "too small and too fast" to target isn't an excuse. A spacecraft scale weapon only has a -2 DM to attack ground scale targets - including humans. A human is much smaller than a missile, and a lot smaller than a torpedo. A missile usually has Thrust 15 maximum (torpedoes Thrust 10). ...

Re: Revisiting Fighters in a Post High Guard Era

Missiles being of any use in space combat given how accurate weapons can be. They should be trivially shot and destroyed from extreme ranges. I read this argument in this and other forums a few times. Also that the same logic would apply to fighters if they travel openly. I am curious if it is real...

Re: Alternative approach to skill and characteristic advancement

In my experience giving out xp for extraordinary roleplay or for importance during a session often rewards the same players over and over and ignores the quieter ones. If you only give 1 or 2 xp in general per session then an additional xp is quite a lot. But if your group is okay with that there mi...
