Re: Starship Combat Examples?

Other threads have been started on this subject and I don't think any shining examples have been found on Youtube or anywhere else. I should record one of ours. We've conducted ship combat several times and we have it down to a pretty clean science. A few house rules have crept in, but only where th...

Re: Pirates of Drinax - GMs thread

Are there 2d deckplans for the ships in Drinax anywhere? There are official ones for the rulebook and High Guard, and I find those more useful than the fancy 3d ones. I actually made a set in Adobe Illustrator so that when my players inevitably modify the ship, I can keep the deck plans up to date....

Re: Gazelle Class Close Escort

Not to mention, the Gazelle is supposed to have the long legs to get to other locations quickly once its job is done. Sure it might dawdle along next to a J-1 or J-2 freighter for a period of time, but then it needs to haul ass back home or to another naval base with great haste for the next assignm...

Re: How does the patrol corvette land?

It has long, spindly landing gear. Like praying mantis legs.

Re: Pirates: Revolution on Acrid

Mining colony. Corporations. "Outland," anyone? :D My players thought it was kind of ridiculous to have the ship land on Acrid as well. I never explained it to them but I just figured it was one of Captain Torsa's eccentric moves. As for getting a mercenary license, very interesting! Great idea invo...

Re: So, what's with the supplements?

OTOH, I'd be all over a Starports book with not only deckplans of some famous ports of the default setting, but modular deckplans with a construction system set of rules similar to what High Guard provides for ships that lets GMs create their own starports for their games with ready made maps of th...

Re: So, what's with the supplements?

Sounds like a great plan. I really want to see the K'kree and Hivers get their just due. The only thing stopping people from running campaigns in their regions is a dearth of material. As for the others, Aslan, Vargr, et al, rehashed material plus sweeter graphics and more detail (perhaps a few worl...

Re: Pirates: Revolution on Acrid

Perhaps the downport has superior maintenance facilities to the highport; hence, Captain Torsa's desire to land there. The Martin II is still not in perfect shape when it arrives in Acrid system. As for ownership, perhaps GeDeCo built the facility but PRQ bought it. The investment has proven to be d...

Re: Pirates: Revolution on Acrid

Really good ideas. And thanks for the planetology reality check, Steve. Great stuff. What do you all think of the concept of tram/trains running down the mountain, perhaps 20m deep?

Re: Pirates of Drinax - GMs thread

According to the text, it requires an Impossible (16+) Electronics (computers) check to break the encryption on the drums. That should make it pretty tough. And what happens if they fail? Do they get another crack? They don't list a time modifier so I'm not sure what to apply. 1D weeks? Anyone else ...

Re: So, what's with the supplements?

Right now I'm adding (yet) more content to the Traveller Companion which should finish it off. There are some smaller bits and pieces to do along with the Drinaxian Companion and an adventure which is partly written. I also wrote a 58,000 word book on Greek mythology last month. Your output rate ha...

Re: So, what's with the supplements?

Here's the thing: Near as I can tell, Mongoose Traveller currently appears to be just Matthew Sprange and Martin Dougherty, supported by the artists and graphics people that spruce up the materials, and I'm sure you'll agree have done a fine job of giving MgT2 superior art and production values. But...

Re: Traveller as a Spaceship Modeling Hobby

And I like deckplans in my games, even when they aren't used for miniature tactical battles. They help focus the imagination. "That's were you are! That's your surrounding." When you lay that deck plan out on the table, the players often pick their rooms or select which chair is theirs on the bridg...

Re: Pirates: Revolution on Acrid

From "Pirates of Drinax" Book 1: "Acrid’s caustic atmosphere can eat through an inch of armour plating in only a few hours, and acid storms and methane hurricanes lash the arid surface constantly, but it is still one of the more pleasant worlds visited en route to the Hierate. The population here is...

Most of those are valid concerns, but on the flip side, since when is a TL 12-15 Traveller starship a TL-6 U.S. Navy ship?

Re: Creating "new" characters

I started letting them pick the skill table after the roll every time, but then changed it to having the pick the table up front on your first roll of the term, and then if you get promoted you can pick after the roll for that one. Goes with the logic that you have input into some of your specializ...

Re: Pirates of Drinax - GMs thread

I was referring the Harrier captain who ran from the Sincerity and paid for it. You say he talked his way out of that with an Advocate skill. that's some smooth talking. Oh, I gotcha. Sorry for the misunderstanding. Yes, well, he explained that he wasn't "running" so much as just leisurely proceedi...
