Re: Pirates of Drinax - GMs thread

Hero won’t be chasing anyone for a long time in my campaign. MCr 97.5 for new jump drives. There’s a fine line between disabled and destroyed. Yep. And that fine line lies between the level 2 and 3 jump drive critical hits. We've hit that limit, too. One of our group's first piratical operations wa...

Re: Pirates of Drinax - GMs thread

Great recap! Looking forward to the next installment. :)

By the way, in our campaign, the Travellers are being pursued by the Hero and the Arshad, now commanded by Commander Jagad from “Treasure Ship.”

Re: Getting rid of negative Quirks in spacecraft

The discount for each quirk is 5% of the ship's cost, so repairing the cost has to be commensurate with that figure. It can't just be about die rolls (well, it could; you're the ref after all), it should present an adventure and/or roleplaying opportunity if the players want to fix or otherwise amel...

Re: Getting rid of negative Quirks in spacecraft

Seems only fair. Some of the quirks are downright debilitating. Enabling the Travellers to somehow fix, clean up, or otherwise enhance the ship to get rid of the quirks provides an excellent story opportunity.

Re: High and Dry - Project Steel?

A damned shame really. The idea of running adventures in the Metal Worlds is intriguing.

I just ran "High and Dry" on New Years Day with a subset of my Drinax group. Very fun adventure!

Re: Adventures In the Perseus Cluster

Only tangentially related, but I have considered the possibility of somehow transporting travellers to systems in either the Andromeda Galaxy or one of the Magellanic Clouds. Perhaps some kind of Ancients portal or something like that. High Guard describes a few TL 17+ drive types that are probably ...

Re: Pirates of Drinax - GMs thread

Well, I cant go for it unless the Ihatei go that way, so we will see what happens. I do want to run Ihatei! as the next “main” adventure, if I can ever get them out of Acrid. I think my main adversion to the Hierate adventures are the rididulous clan names. Going to need nicknames I can keep track ...

Re: Pirates of Drinax - GMs thread

Good approach, Pyromancer. It's a complex situation and deserves to be handled with a degree of subtlety. I also read that about Oleb, but my sense of it was that his guilt was more internalized and therefore any empathy he might feel for the Asimen would be unknown to them. In addition, sympathetic...

Re: Another stellar navigation question:

I was just reading a paper on the subject of trinary star systems: https://arxiv.org/pdf/1811.08221.pdf

I don't normally read stuff quite this techy, but red dwarves and multiple-star systems fascinate me since they are so abundant.

Re: Pirates of Drinax - GMs thread

Good stuff, although the accepted term is "consulting fee". "Bribe" is so gauche. Sounds like your crew combined good sense with just the right amount of risk. Did they negotiate the amount, or just straight up offer MCr5? So that was an interesting scene. I played Fyukh like he was some kind of As...

Re: Pirates of Drinax - GMs thread

We completed Ihatei! yesterday. A blow by blow might be a little dull, but I'll summarize what our little group of Drinaxi corsairs were able to accomplish: Once bitten, twice shy, the players have learned to be more cautious with their flagship. They never landed the Ghost of Sindal (their name for...

Large Scout Ships?

Canonwise, is the IISS known to have any large (e.g., 1,000+ tons) starships? MgT1 Scouts doesn't list any above a few hundred tons. I have seen mention that the scouts have made use of a retired Lightning-class cruiser, but other than that, I haven't seen any specific designs.

Re: Putting a self sufficient fighting force in a strange land

I would say that's not probable. Soldiers need to fight with the same weapons they have trained with. Plus there is a huge mental part to his as well. That rifle you take of is YOURS. That vehicle you maintain is YOURS. To an extent they are interchangeable, but to an extent they are not as well. O...

Re: Drinax: The Game of Sun and Shadow, Naval Character Creation

If you have the Element Cruisers boxed set, this presents an excellent opportunity to use the character generation system presented in the Naval Campaign Sourcebook . I've considered doing that myself. "Game of Sun and Shadow" seems like a tough one to tackle, and I've been trying to figure out how ...

Re: Putting a self sufficient fighting force in a strange land

Going back to the viability of mercenary units in Traveller, how likely might it be for a mercenary company to actually have very few hardware items and simply lease them? It's possible that many employers will be looking for units to serve as auxiliaries to existing forces. If you're being hired to...

Challenging scenario to play out, Old School. How much of it did you have to improv? Seems like it would have been tough to have every detail charted out.

Re: What is "canon" these days?

What do you consider Canonical? Do you care if it's labeled heretical, err, non-canonical, by Miller, or do you take published material and use it as gospel when it's GOOD material? Do you really care about canon? Everything in the sanctioned game books from the LBBs to the latest T5 or MgT2 is can...

You’re a busy guy. I’ve got the week off, so hopefully I can get a couple of updates to my campaign posted.
Looking forward to it. It’s been fun. Like reading a serialized sci-fi epic. 😊

Merry Christmas to everyone by the way. Travel safely!

Re: New Traveller adventure up on DriveThruRPG: Makergod

Paltrysum, After a craxy work schedule to wrap up the year finally had time to go through this cover to cover. Very well done, and a worthy addition to anyone’s Trojan Reach Collection! Thanks very much, Old School! I really appreciate it. More to come in the very near future. I’ve written what is ...
