Re: Pirates of Drinax - GMs thread

The Alley Cat scene was fun. I have to admit, I sort of had an Aslan version of one of those bars in a John Wick movie in mind when we played out that scene. I was really glad the players didn't massacre the crew of the Martin II during "Treasure Ship." Jagad was one of my favorite characters to pla...

Nicely stated, AnotherDilbert. Sliver of sense has been achieved. You have given me enough to create a nice, reasonably realistic event for the adventure. Thanks for taking the time!

Delta V and orbital bombardment

WARNING: I'm about to expose myself as the math-challenged individual that I am. Not that anyone needs encouragement around here, but please feel free to disavow me of my illusions. In the Core Rulebook (p. 153) we are given transit times that include acceleration and deceleration for several...

Re: Vanguard - The Kickstarter is Live!

And now its cancelled. Not good. How about a basic set with cardboard counters instead of minis and sell the minis separately? I don't see that working. You don't make a BMW appealing by replacing its engine with one from a Yugo. The appeal of the game is the miniatures. And miniatures are too expe...

Re: The futility of Pirates of Drinax?

'there's always a bigger fish'[/i]. I'm looking forward to that as well. My group has indicated they don't want to run "Game of Sun and Shadow" from the perspective of the naval characters, so they will see it unfold strictly from the events perpetrated by the punitive fleet. I'll have to doctor th...

Re: Pirates of Drinax - GMs thread

The Treasure Ship meteor was their idea. Not mine. I’m merely their peace-loving referee. :D

I created an Aslan clan map to try to make some sense of the region. I’ll post it for feedback soon. I tried to combine the info from travellermap with the published info in Pirates Book 2.

Re: Pirates of Drinax - GMs thread

Got "Ihatei!" started today. The players are stealthed in orbit above Kteiroa Downport and have gotten a look at the hundred or so Ihatei ships on the ground. They started kicking around some ideas of how to handle this situation and one idea that came up was to bring the Treasure Ship from its hidi...

Re: The futility of Pirates of Drinax?

If you act like a pariah, you will be treated like one. The great powers would not tolerate a tiny rogue state. They would nuke it into glass. If you really want to create an environment in which you are feared for weapons that might have, use information as a weapon and get someone else to commit t...

Re: The futility of Pirates of Drinax?

This is true. Furthermore, just because something seems like a lost cause doesn't mean it's not worth attempting. It could be the catalyst for something else of equal or greater importance. A renascent Drinaxi kingdom could be 'Camelot.' An ambitious undertaking with an innovative form of interstell...

Re: The futility of Pirates of Drinax?

That could provoke a massive response from the other high-pop Aslan worlds in the region of which there are many. Or it might not. The Aslan aren't known for their unification. However, you don't have to go many parsecs away to hit another Aslan planet with billions in population. Also, I'm not so s...

Re: The Dichotomy of Piracy

That's the trick, isn't it? Hit and run and disrupt things until the two sides take notice and come to the table. That's an essential element of the campaign in a nutshell.

Re: The Dichotomy of Piracy

Pirate fleets are kind of a central theme of the campaign. You could referee around that, I suppose, but the campaign itself mentions several times that the players are expected to have built one over time.

The futility of Pirates of Drinax?

Provocative subject title, no? :) If you plan to adhere to canon, a renascent Kingdom of Drinax will ultimately fall under the bootheels of the Aslan Ihatei when they come pouring over the borders during the Rebellion. Has anyone had this discussion with their players? How do you address it? Most of...

Re: [Pirates of Drinax] Drinaxi military at the start of the campaign

I like it, Pyromancer. I would imagine a few more soldiers (and possible claims that they have more than they do) and a modified yacht instead of a scout ship. Thanks for taking the time to put together a list. I will definitely use a slight variant of yours.

Re: Pirates of Drinax - GMs thread

Great find, locarno! I'm not sure whether that counts as canon or not, but it was in the Traveller's Digest which was sanctioned by DGP was it not? I remember Hans Rancke-Madsen from the '90s online Traveller groups. The one place this might come in very handy is if you include the planet Goertel in...

Seriously, the real world is incredibly dull, often miserable and boring. I'd rather be pirating.
You're onto something here. :)
