It's probably just reformatted but one never knows. Baen's editorial department may have made changes.

Re: Third Imperium and Traveller Lore

Hi friends, I am new to Traveller and know very little about it's lore. Currently I am GMing Traveller 2e and I am interested reading about the Third Imperium. What's is it's history and what is culture and government structure like? Do you recommend any books :?: This question comes up from time t...

Re: New Era, how accurate?

It also subtly changed how the fanon viewed the Imperium. Pre-FFW the Imperials were often bad guys, then during the FFW they wee americanised and became the good guys. So true. And the Zhodani were analogues for the evil Soviets...until Alien Module 4: Zhodani came out anyway. I really loved the w...

POLL: Naval Campaigns

As the author of one Naval Adventure and another almost in the can, I'd like to know more about players' and referees' experiences with the Element Cruisers set and naval campaigns in general. In addition to participating in the poll, I'd love to get more information from you. If you have purchased ...

Re: New Era, how accurate?

The best thing I can say about TNE was that it taught me to use spreadsheets in the 90s. The Fire, Fusion & Steel book enabled you to build just about anything. We had so much fun with that book that there's not a whole lot else I remember about the game. Well, okay, there's one other thing: I ran a...

Re: New Era, how accurate?

Kind of unfortunate, really. IMHO, MegaTraveller had some of the finest supplementary material and best lore ever published for the game. DGP's Traveller Digest and MegaTraveller Journal, as well as the two alien modules they put out, were really top-notch gaming supplements.

Re: New Era, how accurate?

Something more subtle than Virus might have sufficed but I suppose that's all water under the bridge. If you want an alternative, there's the "Lorenverse," in which the assassination of Strephon never happens. It does still include the Empress Wave, though, which means death and destruction was only...

Re: New Era, how accurate?

Here's a nice post on that subject: https://wiki.travellerrpg.com/Rule_of_Man Essentially the Second Imperium collapsed due to its inability to manage an empire that stretched so far and wide, leaving individual polities to fend for themselves. Little in the way of long-range interstellar communicat...

Re: New Era, how accurate?

The New Era hasn't happened yet in the official Mongoose setting, which primarily focuses on the Classic Era of Traveller, circa 1105, Third Imperium dating. If you have access to Survival Margin , one of the first New Era books, you'll see that Virus rips everything to shreds that wasn't already wr...

Re: A puzzling announcement, but one nevertheless likely to be of interest here...

Probably just a promotional announcement for the new printing with updated cover art. Also, was the first edition published by Baen? If not, publishing with a reputable sci-fi publisher like Baen could do wonders for the book.

Re: Pirates of Drinax - GMs thread

Where’d they steal a safari ship from? We shifted gears a bit in my group and one of the players who had run one character for the first half of the campaign rerolled. He made a noble and got the Yacht mustering out benefit. He used it to obtain the safari ship. In other news, we are now further in...

Re: Pirates of Drinax - GMs thread

Ancestors are important to Aslan, so there are some really good role-playing opportunities there. Our Aslan player has small scout, which I let him keep for later adventures in the campaign. So his ancestors are taken care of. So far, he has not demanded a separate shrine on board the Harrier. We w...

Re: New referee and--Dear god, the mortgage costs.

On the other hand speculative trade can, properly handled, soon make the characters rich, way too rich. Exactly. Don't be too upset by the high mortgage costs. If you run the trade rules as written, you might find yourself with a different problem: Travellers who make too much money. Of course, ref...

Re: New referee and--Dear god, the mortgage costs.

If they're running in a free trader, engaging in trade—speculative cargo, freight, passengers and mail—that usually brings in enough to pay the mortgage and then some. If the Travellers ever come up short, well, that's just a great opportunity to put a nice lucrative adventure in their path. ;)

Re: Pirates of Drinax - GMs thread

My group talked about ditching the shrine to make more space but they have three Aslan NPC crew members: two male shipboard troops and a female engineer. One of the males caught wind of their plans to remove the shrine and informed them that the removal of a shrine is an insult to the ancestors. Ult...

Re: @paltrysum. Next adventure

Thanks for the question, MonkeyX. First of all, I'm so glad that you enjoyed The Tktk Convergence , Iron Spine , and Makergod . After the success of those adventures, I was hired by Mongoose to write for their official line. They've kept me pretty busy, which has prevented me from doing more TAS adv...

Re: Pirates of Drinax - GMs thread

We've just begun "The Demon's Eye" in my PoD campaign. It'll be the fifth of the 10 adventures I've run. My group has been wandering in the sandbox for a while now and I'd been wanting them to take a hook for one of the major adventures. They've been courting Pourne, whom they see as an important po...

Mike Leonard is another of their artists. I believe he got his start by doing several ships for JTAS. His work is stunning.

Re: Pirates of Drinax - GMs thread

May I say that Maker God is the first TAS publication I bought and I think it's a gold mine? I'm not sure, how or if I use the mini-campaign set-up in my running of PoD. The Threshing Oar class and its grav APC are part of the campaign already, though. What a stylish ship, especially the use of R-D...
