Re: New Paizo SF RPG: Competitor with Traveller?
For those of you who visit the Starfinder forums, are they full of people bitching about typos and rules they don't understand?

Re: New Paizo SF RPG: Competitor with Traveller?
IMO (and I have been involved in the play test all year), Starfinder is aiming to be a direct competitor to Traveller. <snip> and every indication is that Starfinder will out strip the game in base sales. Dale, how do you think the production quality compares between Traveller (both MgT and T5) and...

Re: Apps for Traveller
RPG Suite will only work if you have a certain level of broadband speed, which I don't have, making it useless to me. I was using it on my laptop in bed last night while the power was out and didn't have any issues. Trust me when I say that I have not been able to get it to run and after several we...

Re: 2300AD Star List/Map question
Just how large does a celestial body have to be for it to be a viable way point for Stutterwarp? The Wall: The Stutterwarp wall is the point at which stutterwarp efficiencies drop to the point where they end up being slower than conventional reaction drives. They are, however, still us- able. This ...

Re: Battle Riders
I'm not sure how I take this post from @MSprange as it seems to say we're all wrong to redesign the 3I ships with HG 2e. For me at least, the Traveller rules and the 3I setting are the same thing but that's a whole other can of worms. Nope, redesign away make it your own. Those are just examples of...

Re: Battle Riders
Something to perhaps bear in mind, while we're talking in general terms about attacking/defending system x and its components, if we look at this in context of say, the Spinward Marches, the key worlds are easy to see, where they can be attacked and defended from, where you can refuel, resupply and ...

Re: Battle Riders
Making a perhaps hasty and poorly thought out analogy to current naval ships, perhaps a battle tender/rider is in someways comparable to a carrier and it's aircraft? A carrier does the legwork of getting to the AO then unleashes it's aircraft to do the damage. It has a fleet to protect it and augmen...

Re: Battle Riders
The trouble I see (and maybe I am the only one, I don't know) is there are splits in the community because no one can agree the basis on which we go forward with the 3I setting and Traveller (cos they are the same thing to me). Lol. irony in parenthesis :) CT was setting less and it has been stated...

Re: Battle Riders
Maybe AndrewW could add his voice as he wrote the current edition of High Guard. No pressure AndrewW ;) but if you could add some insight it would be appreciated. :) The desire was to replicate the older ships, not make new designs. As for drop tanks, there wasn't any real change from the earlier e...

Re: Battle Riders
Instead of dealing with the next generation of ships, might be better to start updating existing designs properly to Mgt 2ed rules as some designs are from the 2kdt limit era and from earlier High Guard design rules where 2kdt+ were capital ships. ( 5kdt+ now being termed capitals.) Which is the sa...

Re: Battle Riders
My, my, isn't this thread going round in circles... Maybe we should organise a tournament, BR vs J1 BR? We would need to agree victory points and set it in a subsector or several subsectors. Agree an initial budget for fleet construction and then see how it goes... Which would solve little as the a...

To put some numbers to my post and using Earth as an example: Earth moves on it's orbit at 29.6km/s In one hour it moves 106,560 km The jump window is 6d6 hours long. Minimum time 6 hours, maximum 36 hours. The minimum the Earth will move in the jump window is 639,600km, the most is 3,836,160 km. Th...

Re: US Navy launches new type of ship
One thing the article mentioned was that the ship has ZERO native defenses, not even ECM. One mention in the article was that the USN might develop some sort of modularized/container style defenses to be deployed. Though it wouldn't be a lot of effort to add some weapon sponsoons on the lower deck ...

Re: US Navy launches new type of ship
The design system isn't all that detailed. That ship would basically be a bog standard freighter with an oversized boat bay in Traveller. It's difficult to make the fleet train interesting. For sure. But when you look at the fun and games the U boats had picking off supply shipping in the Atlantic,...
