Re: Solar Panel based power system

I'm thinking about a big colony ship. The thing's primary purpose is to jump two parsecs. It might even have manuever 0 and just let shuttles come pick up the colonists. Is it feasible to build such a craft with solar panels as its sole source of power? With adequate batteries to power the jump dri...

Re: Can Grav Vehicles Operate in Space?

The dm -6 only occurs when engaged at space ship scale close or adjacent, also doesn't apply to missiles. ( Small craft are limited to adjacent or close range.) If you've ever seen Stargate all engagements with fightercraft are close range or closer, so that's not that big of a deal. Further, pulse...

Re: Can Grav Vehicles Operate in Space?

There have been several references in the various iterations of Traveller stating vehicular grav modules do not have the capacity to break free of a gravity well but can reach orbit. Adding a gravitic drive is creating a spacecraft. I couldn't find anything from either the CRB or VH (2e) that said ...

Can Grav Vehicles Operate in Space?

Just as the title asks: are grav vehicles restricted to atmospheric operation? If so, can you add a gravitic drive from High Guard to let them fly in space, too?

Re: Third Party Support for New Traveller?

No doubt I'll get banned for saying this but the 2e licensing agreement has seen some of the stronger third party move to CE. This might be a good thread for people who have published stuff under the TAS agreement publicise their work (tho there may be a thread for this already, sorry, didn't searc...

I think EldritchFire's point is that MgT2 has no rules for this (yet).

At least CT and MgT1 had rules for this.
That is indeed my point. HG2e doesn't say you can't add it afterwards. That, to me, says you can.

That's how I'd let them do it anyway. Find ways to say yes, instead of rules that say no ;)
Thankfully, in this case, the rules don't say no. No need to make houserules when the rules presented already allow for it.

Re: Adding armor and/or stealth to your starship

I cannot find anything in HG2e that says you can't do it. Therefore, I'd say you can. From my point of view, you should be able to reinforce the hull plating by taking up precious cargo space, and adding a stealth coating shouldn't be that hard. Of course, as GM I'd charge extra for labour as well a...

Re: Character Creation Rules Questions

Some questions on Mongoose 2e character creation and skills, if that's OK ... 1) Are there any skills in books outside the Core Rulebook? In Mongoose 1e, one of the books (Mercenary) had additional skills. Did that happen in 2e, too? Or are the only skills in the Core Rulebook? As it stands, the on...

Look at the Scan Potential table on page 75 for Crystal, Dense material and Exotics. Not sure where you see R.
I believe R is Radioactives.

One other thing to remember is that one variant of the Gozanti, the Escort Cruiser, will have 4 docking clamps for Tie series fighters.
This is that varient.

I did a rough count of habitable squares for a few official 100t ships and compared that to the best dest plan I can find for this ship, and I'd believe 300t base on that. Not the best method, but should be OK for ballpark estimation.
Glad to see that my estimation was a solid one!

Re: Star Wars Gozanti-Class Cruiser

Does the Gozanti carry marines..or in this case Stormtroopers? Not that we've seen on-screen. It's mainly an escort/cargo hauler. I wouldhave made it 400, 500 or 600 tons; good work, though. Of course, if I were to do SW ships the Tantive 4 wouldve been 600 to 800 tons. My original design was 400dT...

Star Wars Gozanti-Class Cruiser

Working on my Star Wars conversion, I think I've completed the Gozanti -class cruiser. Gozanti-Class Cruiser TL12 (120 hull points; MCr165.76) Hull: 300dT standard (MCr15) Armour: Crystaliron 6 (3.75dT; MCr0.75) Manoeuvre Drive: Thrust: 3 (9dT; MCr18) Hyperdrive Drive: H-2 (36dT; MCr72) Power Plant:...

Thanks, so the space consumed is actually the space for the weapon + 4 spaces for the turret + space(s) for crew in the turret?

Is it the case that weapons in a small turret also consume space in the chassis equal to their size?
Yes and yes. You got it!

Re: Vehicle Handbook question - turrets

Weapons still occupy space, yes, regardless of the mount type. Otherwise you could have a 3-space gravsled with an orbital defense laser!

And only weapons can be mounted in a turret. But since turrets don't give you free space, your can always say the sensors are 'mounted' to the turret.

That's what I thought and think it's a cool concept. Did the same thing in a thread sometime back but with maneuver drives and warp based on the IXS Enterprise reports. I'd like to see your concept designs and how they deal with the limitations of reaction drives. Are their craft more like todays s...

Re: Reaction Drive + Warp Drive

Yes, the reaction or maneuver drive must be on to have its thrust rating per hour magnified to parsecs an hour. That's not a bad deal compared to a similar rated jump engine. Not sure why you want a reaction drive compared to a maneuver drive other than it and the warp drives are the only sublight ...
