Re: PCs as instructors

A ship's Library (High Guard, page 46) grants a DM+1 on any EDU check made when training for new skills, and in my mind an instructor should at least be able to do the same. I agree that the instructor should have a higher skill level than the one he teaches his student (e.g. level 2 if he teaches l...

Re: Dichotomy of maintenance

On the one hand star ships are supposed to be tough, and last for 80 to 100 years. But on the other hand life support systems have to be maintained even when not in use. Well, plant a couple of flowers in your leisure area and most of the problem is gone (High Guard, page 44): Biosphere This is an ...

Re: Can a streamlined ship go underwater ?

According to the core rules, page 6: " TL 13 (Average Stellar): The battle dress appears on the battlefield in response to the new weapons. Cloning of body parts becomes easy. Advances in hull design and thruster plates means that spacecraft can easily go underwater. Jump 4 travel." This is how I ha...

Re: Vehicle Hull Points Questions

Will 2 or 3 shots with a revolver really destroy an air raft? I very much doubt that they could destroy the air raft, but they might well disable it, depending on which parts of the air raft are hit. In the worst case they might even cause the air raft to crash from enough height to destroy it and ...

Project Steel was an adventure for the first edition of Mongoose Traveller. I do not know whether it will be re-published for the second edition. http://www.gameskeeper.co.uk/partner/moonfruit/en/terms/boardgame/834/wiki/page/index.php?page=shop.product_details&flypage=shop.flypage&product_id=757&ca...

Re: Rule of thumb for passengers as cargo

As for the life support problem, there is the standard 20 dton launch which is described as a lifeboat in the core rules, although it only has life support for the cockpit crew and no life support system at all for any passengers. This seems to indicate that either the life expectancy in a standard ...

Re: [Stellagama Publishing] These Stars Are Ours!

After delving a bit deeper into These Stars Are Ours! I have now begun to design the basics of a campaign in this setting, with a focus on the colonization of a planet a couple of parsecs spinwards of the Terran realm. While working on this I came to wonder whether Stellagama intends to follow up th...

Re: Teleportation power

I would like some hard and fast rules; I'm beginning to have second thoughts about introducing this psionic power in my campaign... See page 203 of the core rules: "Buildings and vehicles can also be psionically shielded, but this is much more costly, increasing the cost of the vehicle by 10%." I w...

Re: Military Weapons

One possible reason could be that laser weapons tend to cause fires whenever they hit flammable material, and a fire on board of a starship or in a closed habitat can result in a rather unpleasant experience for all involved.

It depends on whether you prefer your fictional future to be utopian or dystopian, the real world's future certainly includes both possibilities.

Re: The Connections Rule

So do you give them anything game mechanic wise or just get them to think of the connections? :D I prefer game mechanics. For example, my Bhotana alternate history campaign uses the Mythras (= ex-Runequest 6) system. When a player describes an event that connects his character with another player's...

Re: The Connections Rule

Do you use the Connections Rule in your games and do the players all like it? Does it seem to add to the game for you and your players? I use the Connections Rule, and it does seem to add to the game. In fact, I like that rule so much that I have introduced it into other roleplaying game systems. :)
