Re: Items 1 tech higher

We always played that Class A-C starports were at least T12 or could support the jump drives required to reach them, whichever was higher. I don't recall a rule like the one you are looking for, but it's been a long time since I actually played the game.

Re: Questions about sensors, comms, signals, etc.

But databases should have a complete list of all commercial ships and private vessels, even if the information is out of date; so a forty year old freetrader that made it's way from the Solomani Rim to the Spinward Marches would be identifiable, though not updated on current ownership. Good point. ...

Re: Questions about sensors, comms, signals, etc.

What happens when a ship enters a system for the first time, before word of its presence in the sector makes its way to the port? It will have a new and unknown transponder signature by definition. Does it have to wait in quarantine until the next X-boat mail packet arrives?

Re: Large amounts of cash on ships

You could set up a Captain's Guild, or a Merchantmen Trust, and being in good standing adds a couple of dee emms during contract negotiations and encounters. Call the consortiums what ever you like, but they do offer a possible answer to the question of "how do we know we can trust you?" in the big...

Re: Ship's Locker: Out of the Closet

This probably requires someone with Profession/Gunsmith, to tinker with a pump action shotgun. Once he has, you depress the trigger and slide the pump action continuously, causing the hammer to drop every time, and you have an automatish fire; it's referred to as slamfire. Or you could acquire a WI...

Re: Inspiration

There were only three things really memorable about the Firefly series, Christina Hendricks, Morena Baccarin, and the ship. Seen objectively, it looked like it would have lost steam towards the end of a full season in any event, and a lot of the nostalgia has to do more with could have been, rather...

And the answer is IT IS HERE! Stopped at my Local Game store today and there it was on the rack waiting. Came in yesterday. They received 5 copies. Store manager and I spent the next 5 hours reading and discussing things we found. I worked on one design for the Dawn of Jump thread and conceived oth...

Re: The Vehicle Handbook is Here!

Is there any way to order the hard copy from my FLGS and get in on the free PDF goodness? I try to funnel every purchase I can through my local store in the hope that they will stay open, but they are just NOW getting their allotment of High Guard from Alliance, their distributor.

This is how I imagine the AutoChef working IMTU "He had found a Nutri-Matic machine which had provided him with a plastic cup filled with a liquid that was almost, but not quite, entirely unlike tea. The way it functioned was very interesting. When the Drink button was pressed it made an instant but...

David Drake, in his Hammers Slammers universe, handles FTL communications through a communications relay station built at a galactic anomaly that is the same apparent distance from every other point in the galaxy. This relay is operated by the Bonding Authority, THE megacorp of his universe and a ki...

The Zumwalt was built about 30 miles downriver from my house. She is impressive as hell. Made the Arleigh Burke class destroyers in the water next to her look like tenders.

Re: Taxiation in the Traveller Universe

In a feudal system the top dog imposes taxes (or levies, scutage, whatever you want to call it) on his vassals, they impose on theirs, etc down the line. IMTU spaceports are like giant duty-free stores, since taxes that affect the players are always local and levied by the dirtside authorities OUTSI...

Re: Large amounts of cash on ships

In the CT campaign I was in many years ago a common form of large "currency" was bearer bonds issued by the megacorps. These could be redeemed/traded at any class A or B starport. Said starports also had heavily guarded vaults available to store your cash and other valuables while docked there. Our ...
