Re: Removing Hardpoint Limits: Necessity or Heresy?

Note that the missiles in TNE were not kinetic: Their warheads were (nuclear) bomb-pumped xray lasers. They maneuvered into the same hex as the target and detonated. Ah, is Star Trek the source of that idea, then? I first encountered it in the Honor Harrington books, but saw it elsewhere later. Edi...

Re: High Guard 2e Ship Design Spreadsheet v1.1 (Google Docs)

I have never had the need to work in Google sheets before. I only just found out after another quick perusal there is an inbuilt version tracking. Taking over another persons build, without adequate documentation, can be fraught with its own problems. I have only just come back from hiatus from MgT...

Re: High Guard 2e Ship Design Spreadsheet v1.1 (Google Docs)

Those errors don't really have enough detail for me to relate them to anything I'm afraid! But I'll be glad of any help you can offer. I'm pretty much hoping not to have to do a lot of maintenance on the sheet, now that it mostly works (though there are few fixes requested in this thread I should re...

Re: Mars Preparation Question

Now imagine NASA discovered proof that Mars had been inhabited maybe even what they assume is a crashed spaceship revealed after a Martian dust storm? I think they would suddenly find funding for, and announce, another Rover mission to be launched ASAP and a manned mission to follow, and would try ...

Re: High Guard 2e Ship Design Spreadsheet v1.1 (Google Docs)

To make it worse you might want to dimension the jump drive with drop tanks, but the manoeuvre drive without, or vice versa. E.g. see the BC Hades: http://forum.mongoosepublishing.com/viewtopic.php?p=899216#p899216 Yeah, I don't think I'll be trying to add a drop-down for every option; but a box th...

Re: High Guard 2e Ship Design Spreadsheet v1.1 (Google Docs)

I don't think it applies as much to Jump drives because you drop/empty the drop tanks and can't jump with cargo attached (and presumably ships) except with a jump net; I think the jump net capacity is already figured in properly, although I've not looked at the sheet for a while.

Re: High Guard 2e Ship Design Spreadsheet v1.1 (Google Docs)

Are you planning on adding the recalculation of drive performance to account for drop tanks, external cargo and clamped ships or did I miss it? You mean M-drive performance? I hadn't considered that at all. It's a good idea, I'll try and take a look later. What's the reason for the 75 ton limit on ...

Re: Penalty for Lost Cargo/Post Transport?

Hmm, making them liable for anything is a bit like telling them what contract they signed way back when; it would be reasonable to assume that expensive goods are insured for transit, but that they'll need to make a full report to the authorities to make sure they're off the hook and that they'll ha...

Re: High and Dry -> Project Steel

I see Chalchiutlicue and Marduk are fairly close to one another...may I ask why the relocation? 'cos they were in Chalchiutlicue and I fancied dropping it on them right then. They haven't gotten the High'n'Dry back to the Scout Service yet, and they have to do it in a few months or risk not being a...

Re: High and Dry -> Project Steel

It's not on the release schedule for this year, certainly, though it's clearly somewhere on the to-do list. Personally, I transplanted Walston to the Trojan Reach and ran it there (I put it to the upper-right of Theev, others have suggested dropping it on top of Pandora instead). Where did you go n...

Re: Removing Hardpoint Limits: Necessity or Heresy?

I'd build the Roci with a missile turret/barbette, a railgun barbette, and PDCs - and probably not much armour, based on how easily it's penetrated by PDCs in it's turn.

Reading that section was a headache; N, M, and C zones. S, C, and I type asteroids. Then a table with C/D/E resources against C/M/I composition.

Re: High and Dry -> Project Steel

The High and Dry adventure makes several references to it being a lead in to something called Project Steel...it sounded like it was going to be a series of modules in the Marches Adventure line, similar to the Reach Adventure line. Is this still in the works? I have been holding off on using that ...

This looks so good.
Thank you for this.
Did you also do something similar for MgT1 or is MgT2 your first attempt at a ship builder XL spreadsheet?
That was my first attempt; I've never played MgT1 as I was only introduced to the system recently.

Re: Starliner

I'm a bit dubious about the viability of interstellar pleasure cruises, simply due to the week spent in jumpspace - at least 2 weeks of your holiday, assuming a round trip, spent in what amounts to a fancy hotel/shopping mall you can't leave and without even the stars for a view.

Another nudge to throw players in a plot direction is a convenient misjump. Tell a little story that unfolds around the misjump, so it seems like the misjump itself is the plot.

Re: High Guard 2e Ship Design Spreadsheet v1.1 (Google Docs)

Yeah, that was deliberate after I saw it discussed in another thread. It's somewhat imbalanced to get a smaller drive and a lower price - it's free cargo space - and I couldn't bring myself to read the rule that way! Higher tech is better! Sure; but in-game, for balance, that's always represented a...

Re: Monthly Maintenance

Life support is a separate cost. "Life Support and Supplies: Each stateroom on a ship costs Cr1000 per month. This cost covers supplies for the life support system as well as food and water, although meals at this level will be rather Spartan." Not wishing to drag this off-topic, but is it correct ...
