Re: [GK Games] A Fifth of 21 Plots

How transferrable are these plots to the Traveller OTU or homebrew settings?

Re: RPG Suite

I've just given this a try, it's kinda cool but a bit buggy in places. It doesn't seem to count ship shares (Just leaves it at 0 regardless of how many you get), It counts losing SOC during an event as an injury that can be healed, and it doesn't quite display skills in the 2e "specialisation" forma...

Re: Ship Design Philosophy

Long range missiles are listed as having acceleration fifteen, but are available at technological level eight; acceleration fifteen is only available at technological level eleven. I would suggest that "can go really fast" and "can go really fast while not experiencing enough Gs to squash meatbags ...

Re: Poly Carapace

Came searching for this thread rather than start one, but it's gone unanswered... I ended up finding the answer in CSC1e, though, and thought I'd leave it here for the next searcher. The higher TL versions are only "lightweight" in that they can provide more armour for the same weight, and only the ...

Re: Modding (or managing) Combat

If by heroic you mean invincible and invulnerable player characters, let them fight Keystone Kops with bad weapons and skills, perhaps with an extra negative DM. Some character will occasionally be hurt as a reminder of their mortality, but they will win their combats and perhaps be happy? I guess ...

Modding (or managing) Combat

My players are used to more "heroic" games (D&D, Mythras/Runequest, and others), and I'm concerned that the super-deadly combat in Traveller might be offputting - both on the ground and in space. Avoiding combat because combat is deadly is all very well, but heroic combat is also good fun, and I'd r...

Re: Strend

This is true - Travellermap is the source we now use, and you will see various worlds updated when we re-release the Trojan Reach as part of the Pirates of Drinax set in a couple of months or so. Bit of a thread-hijack, but can you provide any guidance on how bad an idea it is to start a Pirates of...

Generating / creating memorable NPCs.

I'm going to start running Secrets of the Ancients soon (doesn't look like I'll need to do much converting to 2e), so I've started reading through it and the most stand-out feature I noticed is the "how to play" notes for a few significant NPCs. For instance, for Pallod Norrim: • Speak clearly but n...

I don't think any of us have given up on that indoor Olympic pool.
Speaking of which, Passengers is worth watching if you haven't already. That's my idea of an "infinity pool".

Re: Community created tools for MgT2

He replied pretty quickly and affirmatively when I emailed him about my High Guard spreadsheet, but given that RPGSuite.com might be competing against a character spreadsheet (and that they shell out for advertising in MgT2 books), I think you're right not to just assume!

Re: The Type-Y kind of Yachts we should be seeing

The standard method of generating income from a fancy yacht is to charter it out to others (crewed or "bareboat") when you're not using it, which is probably most of the year. There's a saying, apparently, that if you pay less than $X million for your yacht it costs you money, but over that horrific...

Re: Removing Hardpoint Limits: Necessity or Heresy?

Note that the missiles in TNE were not kinetic: Their warheads were (nuclear) bomb-pumped xray lasers. They maneuvered into the same hex as the target and detonated. Ah, is Star Trek the source of that idea, then? I first encountered it in the Honor Harrington books, but saw it elsewhere later. Edi...

Re: High Guard 2e Ship Design Spreadsheet v1.1 (Google Docs)

I have never had the need to work in Google sheets before. I only just found out after another quick perusal there is an inbuilt version tracking. Taking over another persons build, without adequate documentation, can be fraught with its own problems. I have only just come back from hiatus from MgT...

Those errors don't really have enough detail for me to relate them to anything I'm afraid! But I'll be glad of any help you can offer. I'm pretty much hoping not to have to do a lot of maintenance on the sheet, now that it mostly works (though there are few fixes requested in this thread I should re...

Re: High Guard 2e Ship Design Spreadsheet v1.1 (Google Docs)

To make it worse you might want to dimension the jump drive with drop tanks, but the manoeuvre drive without, or vice versa. E.g. see the BC Hades: http://forum.mongoosepublishing.com/viewtopic.php?p=899216#p899216 Yeah, I don't think I'll be trying to add a drop-down for every option; but a box th...
