Re: What extra ships should she give Ferrik?
The NPCs shouldn't get to artificially scale up with the PCs or there isn't much point in the PCs actually gaining/improving anything. Ferrik has what he has. If the PCs have four ships to his one, he doesn't get to escape. He knows this, and so will everyone else. That means there's a better-than-...

Re: Megafreighters
On the subject of a deep space fuel dump, if that's a direction you're interested in developing, it might be worth remembering that Space Is Really Big™. And the odds of there not being a single usable block of ice -- be something small like a (very?) long period comet or something big like a KBO, t...

Re: Terraforming in a nightmarish way...
I suspect the biggest issue to the Third Imperium's "rearranging" star systems on any meaningful scale is that it renders a lot of the existing narrative elements of the setting obsolete. As, if the Third Imperium is capable of organizing engineering projects that require the amounts of resources ne...

Re: So, what's with the supplements?
I don't actually think an updated Merchant Prince needs to be a priority, but it'd also be nice if -- it isn't to be a priority -- that "Making A Living Sidebar" on Pg. 210 of the 2e Core Rulebook didn't seem to indicate that another Merchant Prince was coming soon enough in the near future to make ...

Re: Pirates of Drinax - GMs thread
Juums - looks like you’ve been here awhile but don’t post much. I hope you’re able to participate more in the future as you’ve got good ideas. While it is too late for Revolution on Acrid (see my prior overly long posts on this thread if you’re interested), your premise is excellent: encouraging th...

Re: Pirates of Drinax - GMs thread
OK, fellow referees, I need some input on this one. We’re gearing up for “Treasure of Sindal”, an adventure I like a lot. The challenge that I face is that my travellers will likely be adventuring in the Rao’s Revenge , their captured Aslan Pocket Warship. I’ve already decided to move the location ...

Re: Imperial characters playing Pirates of Drinax campaign
Who says that working with a foreign power has to mean working in opposition to one's home power? Is it not possible to work for a Pirates of Drinax power while still trying to do good for the Imperium? And maybe their home loyalties within the Imperium are not to the huge abstraction that is the I...

Re: House rules for space combat
1) A Severity 1 critical hit occurs whenever an attack does damage greater than or equal to a combatant's maximum Hull; Do you mean before armour? Otherwise the ship is destroyed? That's just poor spellchecking on my part. Phasers set for maximum derp there. It should read: "A Severity 1 critical h...

Re: House rules for space combat
On avoiding crit-chains, my house rules on Sustained Damage are as follows: 1) A Severity 1 critical hit occurs whenever an attack does damage greater than or equal to 10% of the combatant's maximum Hull; 2) A Severity 1 critical hit occurs when a combatant sustains damage equal to 25%, 50%, and 75%...

Re: Some Ideas
Traveller as an RPG is gritty and small scale and not the game you seem to need. Isn't that a little high-handed? The actual game mechanics of the Mongoose editions of Traveller are remarkably modular and capable of supporting most scales of gaming: The only significant RAW hardcoding to limit the ...

Re: Navy/Marine records across different systems.
With the lack of FTL ansible, the proof of someone's service would almost certainly come from the equivalent of the DD-214 form that the American military uses, which would be furnished by the individual to prove-up their service history.

Cheeky answer and no link :? It's not really cheeky. It's a reference to this: http://www.drivethrurpg.com/product/79659/Supplement-7-1001-Characters?cPath=161_4511. And it's fair to wonder if there's anything wrong with it. (Though it was also fairly obvious from your initial post that you didn't ...

Re: The Sindal Fuel Dump (some spoilers)
A lot of the discussion in the thread is predicated on the assumption that you need to haul the H2 fuel across the stars at FTL speeds. But is that necessarily so? MgT 2e is, after all, a setting that's got reactionless drives that will produce motive force so long as power's fed into them and, whil...

Re: Pirates of Drinax: GM questions
Next question ahead of my next session is on the nature of Theev. On the one hand, a few mentions of Theev suggest that its very existence is not very well known. - Drinax vol.1, page 6 (Rumours of the Reach) includes the following rumour: 'Any pirate who reveals the jump co-ordinates of Theev...':...

Re: New Paizo SF RPG: Competitor with Traveller?
Starfinder is a competitor to Traveller in the same way that a great white shark is a competitor to a lionfish: They are both saltwater carnivorous fish, but they live in different worlds and fill different ecological niches, "competing" with each other only in the sense that they both prey upon the...

Re: Strend
Several worlds including Strend and Theev were downgraded as part of the T5 project. In the second edition mongoose traveller book Pirates of Drinax: Theev cluster, Theev has likewise been downgraded to Tl 14. AFAIK Travellermap.com is the official canon. perhaps Matt can weigh in on this. The Thee...
Re: Strend
The MgT 1e Trojan Reaches splatbook gives the UPP as B436ADA-F, so yes, it'd be TL15.

And that makes it even less helpful, because they really could have picked the name from a whole long list of female SF authors, such as (Ursula K) LeGuin, (Anne) McCaffrey, (Dorothy C) Fontana, Chesya (Burke), Octavia (Butler), (Andre) Norton, (Connie) Willis, Tanith (Lee), (C J) Cherryh, Melinda ...
