Re: In the OTU, the Moon landings were faked

Traveller space has a huge uptick in rads flying around due to all the ships jumping around and dumping a micro-universe's worth of rays every time they move bundles of spam from system to system. In a TL 8 system with few to no inter system travel the rads are a lot lower ;)

Re: Ship Design Philosophy

Too bad, since that stops you from being able to do Babylon 5/Mass effect style jump gates. It would still be an easy house rule though and could make for an interesting game, go for a ship with no jump capabilities but more internal space that is restricted to the jump network or a less capable shi...

Re: Ship Design Philosophy

Starships: Engineering and Jump Drives Of course, details are vague as to how exactly a jump drive works in the new edition, not that it terribly specific in others, but with the new rules, that you can leave behind your jump drive together with your drop tanks, does seem rather possible. And that ...

Re: New Defense System 'Sand Screen"

If it is dense enough to block a laser than it is effectively a solid, even if the individual grains can be manipulated into different shapes. To a radar it would appear as a massive signature.

Re: Marines and Point Defense.

Hmm, space boarding actions... yup, either disable the target and maybe even tell them if they dont resist the boarding then some will live. If i ever want to conduct a boarding i plan on taking a note from FTL, it is a distressed or derelict object in space that is loaded up with pirates who take a...

Re: Solomani Campaign

It is as sound as the players want it to be. If they like it then they wont fight the scenario... too much. You could go a lot of ways with it too, are they willingly working for SolSec or being blackmailed/coerced into it? what do they want out of it and how far will they have to go to get it? I am...

Re: Ship Security Software Packages

I would assume any spacecraft rated as operationally ready would have basic security software included. Only if something is in a weird prototype or stolen before completion phase would i not assume such onboard. Other provisions such as vac suits or anti-boarding cutlasses would be extra but not th...

Re: CRB 2nd Ed. Do i understand shipboard lasers?

Evade is thrust points dedicated to evading and is a straight conversion of 1 pt thrust spent on evading cancels one point from the attack roll and evasive action is a penalty equal to the effect of a pilot roll? Evade is just computer software, no thrust needed. Evasive Action costs 1 Thrust to do...

Re: CRB 2nd Ed. Do i understand shipboard lasers?

From the table on p156 and p158 Pulse Laser: To Hit +2, Damage 2D Beam Laser: To hit +4, Damage 1D You also have negative modifiers on the to hit roll, like range(p156), Evade(p151), Evasive Action(p156), so hits are not guaranteed. The Effect is added to damage, but armour is directly subtracted, ...

Re: Marines and Point Defense.

If you are closer than 10 km you use the vehicle combat rules, not the space combat rules. So I think all weapons can fire at people, but anything larger than a barbette will have trouble hitting. Ooh, i forgot about that... Must be pretty terrifying to see your space buddies flashing away into not...

CRB 2nd Ed. Do i understand shipboard lasers?

I am new to Traveller and slowly working through my PDF of the 2nd ed book, can someone let me know if i have this right? Pulse lasers have a +4 DM and 2D damage while beam lasers have a +8 DM and 1D... but that +8 also counts towards Effect so that an average roll from an even moderately competent ...

Re: Marines and Point Defense.

Not an expert on the rules but from what i gather its limited to sandcasters... but those do pack a nice punch in an anti boarding role, enough to damage through Battledress at least.

Re: Taveller. Just what is it?

I am far from an authority on Traveller but the first thing to jump out at me is your focus on fleet combat games. Traveller can be used to run games like that with little to no modification but that also ignores massive swaths of the game that focus on characters instead of ships. The focus of the ...

Re: How many tons is Ceres?

From the latest High Guard document, "On average, assume that it takes one day per million credits to build a spacecraft at an average commercial shipyard." Anyone want to hazard a guess on Ceres' launch date rounded off to years? I wouldnt think the CERES project would be handled by an average shi...

Re: How many tons is Ceres?

So, how did they manage to use that all up by the time The Expanse takes place? Stripped it off and sent it to Mars. That I can see. What I can't see is if they can do that, why don't they have a similar technique for mining Saturn's rings? Instead of guys using grabber claws for chunks of ice, the...

Re: Idea in progress : Scout Interceptor/Pirate chaser

Maybe a role as a special purpose and retrieval craft? jump in, rush a target, disable, board, grab data/Person of Interest/Macguffin and escape before a serious reaction can be mustered? I could see a Special Intelligence service or the like operating a very small number of such craft. i would also...
