Re: How are you doing hard sci-fi?

Honestly, even for fiction, most people I game with and know buy digital anymore and the bookstores are gone or struggling. Even comic book stores are falling before the digital storm. We play with pdf and digital aids always on tap. Some times dice are used and sometimes electronic alternatives. I ...

Re: What do you think of the new edition Traveller?

I would think he means that if as a background skill you get a skill at level 0 and then in your basic training you get that skill again (at level 0) it does not stack and give you level 1. Another area where skills do not stack is if you have Mechanic 1 for example and get promoted and the new ran...

What do you think of the new edition Traveller?

I picked up my copy yesterday and I am still working my way through the rules. I am looking at it with eyes that haven't played in several years so the first thing I did was sit down and roll up a character. Based on the order of rule presentation I encountered some confusion with how skills labeled...

[So? NASA's real world engines seem to break the laws of physics and are supposedly impossible yet they work. And forget the fuel. http://www.digitaltrends.com/cool-tech/researchers-conduct-successful-new-tests-of-emdrive/ Did you for one second stop to consider why science sites don't carry this s...

Re: How are you doing hard sci-fi?

Even Traveller's maneuver drive is impossible . For any drive that obeys the laws of physics, you are looking at a multi-year trip around the solar system (unless you can continually refuel: the problem is you must obey energy conservation laws w.r.t the mass of your fuel -> your ships added moment...

Re: The Expanse

Having read all of the books I find it to be a great show. The acting, writing, and SFX are all top notch. I admittedly worried that it might be too heady for the average viewer leading to an early cancellation but so far so good.

Exactly. It's why I encourage people to focus on what works for their game story.

Re: New Edition of Traveller is Here!

I checked the preview to get an idea of how complete the new core rule book is but there is no table of contents for it. Does it include comprehensive star ship construction and sector creation rules?

Edit: Oh never mind. My will to want overrode my patience to wait and I went and bought it... :o

Re: WotC joining forces with Player-publishers

I am reminded of the issues I have with Amazon and self published writers. It's easy to say that the public will review and see the garbage carted away but in truth this doesn't happen as much as we would wish. There really does need to be some official means of vetting the good from the bad or at l...

Re: How are you doing hard sci-fi?

I have struggled with this at times too. It's a bad question in that what's hard sci fi changes every few years based on recent scientific discoveries. Gravity field manipulation based tech such as plating is becoming more real everyday based on recent discoveries in field generation and the Alcubie...
