Re: Gazelle Class Close Escort

As you might can tell, it really bothers me that in the Treasure Ship adventure the two Gazelles kick ass with missiles they dont have. There has long been two versions of the Gazelle: https://i.imgur.com/yLutPw4.png CT Traders & Gunboats The lower version ( Unicorn ) has two laser turrets and two ...

Re: High Guard Fleet Combat

- Is the 'divide by ten' superfluous? As the Gazelle's 6 beam lasers and 2 particle barbettes line up with 6 damage and 30 damage correctly Both damage and Hull is divided by 10. It's probably easier to keep it standard to keep compatibility with published sources. - The Fleet Manouvre chart skips ...

Re: Gazelle Class Close Escort

Without drop tanks it's no Gazelle...

I would question the single missile turret. A salvo of three missiles is easily evaded, dodged, or PDed by a single laser turret. Missiles are best used in large numbers.

Re: Gazelle Class Close Escort

I might be completely wrong, my knowledge of the ancient days is poor (anything before Mongoose) but isn’t the Gazelle one of the early designs from when Traveller was a small-ship universe, where the Kinnunir was considered an imperial cruiser and the two 1,000 ton escorts were proper destroyers? ...

Re: Gazelle Class Close Escort

If Andrew says that's what is meant in the rules, then so be it. Did he also intend to write rules that completely obsolete the TL15 Fusion power that is standard in almost Every imperial Warship? Most ships don't use tech advantages. Obviously performance is better if you use tech advantages. A TL...

Re: Gazelle Class Close Escort

Why and how a warship is designed with a built-in -1DM to everything bridge-related is another issue... Especially as it has 33 Dton cargo left unused... Probably because it was originally designed with a small bridge because that's all that fit on the smaller hull (320 dT?) with the Classic High G...

Re: Gazelle Class Close Escort

- I disagree with your rules interpretation regarding advanced technology drives. You're saying because the drive tonnage decreases, the effective price increase isn't as high as it is for all other technology increases. It's not just my interpretation, it's confirmed by the author here: http://for...

Re: Gazelle Class Close Escort

The real weakness is the enormous cost. I think that is where where your Gazelle becomes less realistic. Even the imperial navy has a budget. I think its unlikely to spend that much money for a Gazelle, which is already a premium design over the 400 ton corvette. I agree that the Gazelle (and most ...

Re: Gazelle Class Close Escort

Jump drives: You've already spent the money on the advanced tech jump drive. So switching from size reduction to reduced fuel costs you nothing, and frees a little bit of space. Not a huge amount, but you look to be maximizing the design. If you’re using tech to free space, fuel reduction before ju...

Re: Gazelle Class Close Escort

The setup doesn't work from a fleet perspective, where naval ships have a thrust 6 and Jump 4. Canon seems to disagree with you. Some warships have J-4/M-6 but far from all, since it was impossible to build effective warships with that performance at TL15 using LBB5. I would consider it more import...

Re: Gazelle Class Close Escort

Power gaming with all that high technology in the design, Dilbert. Call it what you like, that is the system. A team of professional naval architects are supposed to have spent quite some time and effort to make this an effective warship. I would consider it bad roleplaying to make a deliberately i...

And theoretically I would like to garage the GCarrier close to the boat, so that we can deploy the vehicle with the boat.

Re: How does the patrol corvette land?

It's clearly not considered, either by the exterior design or the deck plans. https://i.imgur.com/2TxKww7.png TNE Core I would assume the ship can land. Option B sounds most practical. As you say it still leaves the hatches high off the ground. If we moved Engineering to the main deck and the cargo ...

How about this:
300 Dt + external gig + drop tank.
J-4, M-4, Armour 15, MCr 290
J-2, M-5 without the tank, J-5 when dropping the tank.

Re: Gazelle Class Close Escort

The Gazelle is supposed to be a fleet escort, not a convoy escort. The J-4 performance it has while retaining the drop tanks (as is standard procedure) is appropriate. Naval tactics in the Imperial Navy call for large ships to be accompanied by well-armed, small fighting craft capable of engaging th...

I would agree that it need more armour, but it is closely based on the Gazelle in CT Fighting Ships with the same drive performance and armour.

Re: High Guard Fleet Combat

I've played around with it a bit. The fleet movement system is quirky and has some interesting properties. It is generally easier to decrease the range. You are generally highly manoeuvrable in the centre of the map, but get stuck at the periphery. It's bad news for fighters: Since squadrons move in...
