Re: Gazelle Class Close Escort

Let's take an example: A 400 Dt ship with a clamped external craft versus a 420 Dt ship with an internal craft. (Cost is the bold number in the top row, free space is the green number above "dTon".) Docking Space: https://i.imgur.com/kVQji73.png Docking Clamp: https://i.imgur.com/4d0wSfa.png The dif...

Re: Gazelle Class Close Escort

The Gazelle and Subbie artwork clearly shows the small craft carried externally. Docking Spaces certainly have advantages, but they are more expensive. Reasonably a Docking Space is designed for a specific craft and can't accept any other craft. A Docking Clamp can probably carry any reasonable craf...

Re: The Revenge of "Smaller Weapons"

Vehicle / personal scale weapons use that scales enhancements, not the spaceship ones. They do? Even when mounted on spacecraft? What personal scale enhancement system is that? ( Which leaves the range enhancement to under twice the listed range for long range.) Long range is twice the effective ra...

Re: Gazelle Class Close Escort

If you like having to do eva everytime you need to transfer cargo or personel, then the clamps are your ticket. ( With plastic tube between the ships.) With a bit of careful design we can probably mate airlocks directly as the Subbie and the Gazelle show. Any access to the exterior hull of the craf...

Re: The Revenge of "Smaller Weapons"

That would be range, as the heavy machine gun has a long range of under double the listed range so with range increase your looking at about 2.5 km range where most small craft weapons have a range of up to 10 km at close range. ? Sorry, I don't understand? The HMG has a range of 1 km, or Adjacent ...

Thank you, that seem to be conclusive, but I do wonder how it got a range of 6 km? Perhaps the TL of the autocannon was used, instead of the range?

Re: The Revenge of "Smaller Weapons"

I would interpret the boxed text on pg 138 of the CSC to mean that any weapon with a base damage of less than 1DD can only have a maximum damage of 1DD, ... I don't think so, it was introduced during beta to handle and simplify some edge cases, such as using HEAP ammunition with the Heavy Autocanno...

OK, no nuclear machine guns.

But how about Gauss Cannon with nuclear ammunition? Each cannon takes 1 Dt and does 6D damage with Auto 3.

So with five mounts of one gun each we can attack 15 times for 6D damage?

The Revenge of "Smaller Weapons"

Please tell me why this is not RAW: A light fighter with several fixed mounts of four HMGs (HG, p32). The HMGs fires Nuclear Ammo and does 6DD damage, or 6D in Space Scale (CSC, p141; HG, p157). Each mount of four HMG take 1 Dt and fire together for 6D+18 damage (Core, p158). Since the HMG has the ...

Re: Gazelle Class Close Escort

As you might can tell, it really bothers me that in the Treasure Ship adventure the two Gazelles kick ass with missiles they dont have. There has long been two versions of the Gazelle: https://i.imgur.com/yLutPw4.png CT Traders & Gunboats The lower version ( Unicorn ) has two laser turrets and two ...

Re: High Guard Fleet Combat

- Is the 'divide by ten' superfluous? As the Gazelle's 6 beam lasers and 2 particle barbettes line up with 6 damage and 30 damage correctly Both damage and Hull is divided by 10. It's probably easier to keep it standard to keep compatibility with published sources. - The Fleet Manouvre chart skips ...

Re: Gazelle Class Close Escort

Without drop tanks it's no Gazelle...

I would question the single missile turret. A salvo of three missiles is easily evaded, dodged, or PDed by a single laser turret. Missiles are best used in large numbers.

Re: Gazelle Class Close Escort

I might be completely wrong, my knowledge of the ancient days is poor (anything before Mongoose) but isn’t the Gazelle one of the early designs from when Traveller was a small-ship universe, where the Kinnunir was considered an imperial cruiser and the two 1,000 ton escorts were proper destroyers? ...

Re: Gazelle Class Close Escort

If Andrew says that's what is meant in the rules, then so be it. Did he also intend to write rules that completely obsolete the TL15 Fusion power that is standard in almost Every imperial Warship? Most ships don't use tech advantages. Obviously performance is better if you use tech advantages. A TL...

Re: Gazelle Class Close Escort

Why and how a warship is designed with a built-in -1DM to everything bridge-related is another issue... Especially as it has 33 Dton cargo left unused... Probably because it was originally designed with a small bridge because that's all that fit on the smaller hull (320 dT?) with the Classic High G...

You're saying because the drive tonnage decreases, the effective price increase isn't as high as it is for all other technology increases. It's not just my interpretation, it's confirmed by the author here: http://for...

Re: Gazelle Class Close Escort

The real weakness is the enormous cost. I think that is where where your Gazelle becomes less realistic. Even the imperial navy has a budget. I think its unlikely to spend that much money for a Gazelle, which is already a premium design over the 400 ton corvette. I agree that the Gazelle (and most ...
