Re: Pirates of Drinax - GMs thread

Yeah. My players made the "moral" choice and jammed the guy in a low berth. Then they decided this was great....they now have a room full of assorted scientists, pirates, imperial officials, and just people that have crossed them, that they refer to as "The Archives" hidden in an old bunker on Ergo....

Re: Print and ebook combo?

I don't know if they do it on everything. But all the physical books I've purchased through the Mongoose store, I've emailed Matt at msprange@mongoosepublishing.com and received a DriveThru link for the PDF as well.

Re: Drinax: The Game of Sun and Shadow, Naval Character Creation

I tweaked it somewhat, and used the Naval character creation rules from the Naval campaign guide in the Element Cruiser box set (which I'm not sure is out for general consumption past the kickstarter backers yet?) then had them create a command crew for an Imperial ship, flashed back and ran a modif...

Re: Building the Alliance in Pirates of Drinax

Yeah, I don’t see Browne as part of the campaign. Browne’s got its own problems, and Ihatei and Pirates ain’t among them! My crew identified Pourne as a key resource early on. They’ve buttered up the bureaucrats there by solving the mystery ship issue, spending lots of cash on ship repairs and comp...

Re: The futility of Pirates of Drinax?

There will come the moment in the campaign, when my players, accustomed to systems where a few dozen starships is considered fairly high traffic, will jump for the first time into a major Aslan system, and their radar screen will just go WHITE with tens of thousands of contacts. I'm looking forward...

Re: [Pirates of Drinax] Drinaxi military at the start of the campaign

The Life Events for generating a denizen of the floating palace in book two does have one roll where you can inherit a Star Guard commission (then sell it on if you choose) so I reckon it's a very fair view that the Hawk Warriors do something similar.

Re: So, what's with the supplements?

So what you're saying is that you have to buy the campaign bloat to get the actual meat of the system that gets added alongside them and there will never be a clear separate product that eliminates the need to hunt down the changes piecemeal? Or are the new mechanics covered in specific chapters in...

Re: Pirates of Drinax - GMs thread

I have run Liberty Port. I ran it more as an aside adventure. They came into port in Sperle (After earning a bit of a name for themselves elsewhere over the last few months) and were approached by the Free Sperle Society, they agreed to help with the procurement and setup of the port facilities and ...

Re: Need Referee help with Secrets of the Ancients campaign

Might not work with your group, and might not gel with the current GM mindset of let the players do whatever they want, and roll with it. But my players did something similarly out of character (for them, heh) in an earlier adventure. My solution to regain order and save myself having to rework ever...

Re: Pirates of Drinax - GMs thread

I feel like someone must have mentioned something about it somewhere...because something similar crept into my campaign. The dorsal barbette only has a 200ish degree forward field of file in my campaign. I have a feeling that the players might have actually started it themselves. Based on the look o...

Re: Questions on small craft weapons and turrets

I have turrets follow the firmpoint rules. Only single turrets. Two firmpoints for a barbette (which gives you that bigger bang for your buck) and no better range than Close. Small craft weapons also reduce power requirements, so the equipment must also be smaller, they're small craft versions of th...

Re: Ship path visualization

It's certainly an issue. My Drinax campaign is a bit over a year old now, my GM table is scattered with printed maps with arcane notations where I currently keep track of: My PC's, two small Imperial patrols, the odd larger pirate group, my PC's second pirate ship (The Mercifuge from Adventure 1), a...

Re: Is it the right thing to do?

Having an encounter table like that would be odd. Locking yourself into stupid situations because of a random encounter dice roll would be odd. If for some weird reason you did, then fudging the result is the correct course. No-one comes to Traveller for a session that consists of, "The Imperial Nav...

Re: How wrong is it?

If you know something. You can prove something. Any law enforcement professional worth his badge (or warrant card, or laser badge) would present what he knows to his team, work to prove it in a correct and legal manner. Especially if it means they weren't actually pointed at the killer. If he's a cr...

Re: Combat Arm - Overpowered?

One of my players have one in my current game. With regards to the armor, I just give them the full amount in melee (where they have a solid bit of control over what is going where), and roll a d6 for ranged. 1, it hits that arm, armor counts. Anything else, it's landing somewhere else, can't help y...

Re: Shipping livestock

Well, mostly on topic. Highguard does have rules for Livestock. Stables are done in 10t lots. With one "Stable" able to fit 20 "Human" sized or 10 Cattle Sized creatures. With associated life support costs. Obviously for shipping live animals (For whatever story or semi-science reasons required, not...

Re: Is it too small a command?

Not to mention the fact that (as per usual) your scale is just...too large. For a Marine based military campaign you would likely not want to run anything bigger than a Platoon for your PC's (and even then, it's a lot of bodies to manage) take a look at High Guard: Deployment Shuttle...count the bod...

Re: Does it make sense?

No. I believe it's already been stated. But first point, you can't make a Pirates of Drinax computer game (Without licenses, collaboration, talent, etc.) Even as a purely hypothetical exercise it's meaningless, you don't know who the fourth in command of the Starguard is. You don't have detailed com...

Re: Would The GeDeCo agree?

GeDeCo doesn't own Sperle. They are the majority economic controllers, but they can't "sell" the planet. Sperle produces chemicals from the "whales" not food. (Though I suppose the planet would make a better breadbasket than Drinax. But not as good as Asim) The "whales" on Sperle aren't whales, they...
